Buy out the Oregon game now!

There's a pretty amazing amount of ignorance in this thread. People would rather get steamrolled by Oregon than take a day of bad press in the middle of the offseason. If UT played its cards right they could probably even work it such that it got buried behind some other big story.

That said, our finances probably won't really allow buying out this game PLUS paying another school to come in and let us beat them, so I guess we'll just have to take our lumps this time. I'll be shocked if UT doesn't come back to Knoxville with the worst loss in school history. Going forward though, UT needs to stop scheduling these types of opponents. In the current SEC landscape, these games no longer have a place on our schedule.

We play all those teams every year. Our conference schedule is sufficiently difficult without the need to pile additional top 10 teams on top. No other team in the SEC schedules like that.

With the alleged disadvantage the academic side of the school already puts UT at compared to the rest of the conference, and being one of only two teams who have to play UF and Bama every year, there's no sense in also playing the toughest OOC schedule in the SEC every year too.

I like how everyone is already chalking this game up as a loss. I'm keeping faith that we go into Eugene and pull off a huge upset... It's definitely possible, especially if we have the support there to back up our Vols. I, for one, will be there, and I'd be perfectly fine with a respectable loss as well. Don't forget that Washington, who got raped by LSU, beat Stanford, who beat Oregon. Fluke? Sure. But it's possible.

No, it's not. Prepare for a disappointing trip.

I plan to go. Wife's cousin is in the Navy and got a job in Seattle. We're gonna visit next fall and make the drive down to Eugene.

We will see.......we were 4 plays away from going 8-5 last year.....And if we had the same dc as last year, we would be 10-2/9-3.

I think we have a good shot to win next year.

HAHAHA. That's not even remotely close to being true. Thanks for the laugh though. The delusion of some people on this site never ceases to amaze me.

Buy out the Oregon game now! No, You forget we are the UT Volsintears....we are a proud bunch of mountain folk

Can you imagine CBJ hosting all those former VOLS last night and then announcing he was going to ask to bow of of playing Oregon

This game could be interesting if Chip leaves OR. I would almost think he brings his OC as a position coach with him to help install the offense he likes. I could be totally off on that but I could see that happening. If OR were to lose both HC and OC I think this game could go much differently than we all think it will go. The only problem is that last year our defense looked like they were running in quicksand against teams like Troy. I can only imagine what we will look like against OR. Why in the h*ll would you buy this game out though? You dont play the game not to lose.

Chip will only leave if he gets to pick his successor, which he wants to be his OC. At least that was the deal last year, and it was that condition that made the Tampa Bay deal fall apart.....local legend is that's what happened anyway.

I do have a buddy that I work with who has some pretty tight connections in the Oregon AD, and he tells me that Kelly is gone to the NFL for sure, and the the OC to HC deal is done as well.

Just hearsay, but my buddy is a solid dude not some random flake, so who knows?

If Bray stays, buy out the game. With a new qb, play and see how we will match up next year. Will be a preview of Alabama, Florida, Georgia games.

Now i know you're about to say "Were Tennessee we dont back down! We will play anybody!"

But lets be honest Were not winning a championship next year, It will be an auto loss, Next years goal needs to be to get to a bowl game.

And with this schedule, Were not guaranteed to win 5 games.

Austin Peay
Western Kentucky
at Oregon
at Florida
South Alabama
Georgia
Open Date
South Carolina
at Alabama
at Missouri
Auburn
Open Date
Vanderbilt
Kentucky

Auburn will be alot better under Malzahn.

Missour will be better.

Vandy will be good (Despite what alot of UT fans wanna think)

Hell Western Kentucky is not a 100% win IMO

Theres a CHANCE we lose 8 games for the first time EVER.

Call me what you want but for the best interest in this program we need to buy out this game.

Buy out Oregon?! Please leave now. by your logic, How about we just don't play next season at all. geez

Can our athletic program really afford to shell out money just to save a little face right now?

That should be a rhetorical question.

Let's show up in Eugene and if we get whipped then so be it. Running away is pathetic.

Never would I expect to see people suggest we buy out of a game. Turn in your Vol fan card now.

It's ignorant to predetermine how good "you think" a team will be in a season that hasn't even started. The real strength of schedule is determined at the end of the year, not the beginning.

This game IS college football.

This is what builds programs and rebuilds programs. An underdog UT squad traveling to Eugene. Not one single soul believing they can win.

This is how you light a fire. This is how fans are energized.

I hope they never buy out another game. Nobody wants to get beaten as badly as Oregon could beat UT. But it is no reason to run like cowards.

I don't think UT can beat Oregon.

But imagine if they do....
