Buy out the Oregon game now!

That's Dooley's mentality and look what it got him. He backed out of the UNC game to go to a bowl where we lost to UNC on a crumby rule that was promptly changed. That's karma for ya!

A good coach can spin recruiting whether we win or lose. The fact we are playing a decent team with national exposure will be more promising to a kid whether we win or lose.

Finally, Butch beat Vandy with a Cincy squad. If his coaching ability is slightly better that his predecessor, we should be able to win the games we played close this year (GA, MS St, SC & MO). Auburn will not magically be better

I think that would be a recruiting NIGHTMARE.... Can you imagine what ESPN and the other media outlets like F-BOMB would put out there about us.

I understand your concern but I think now gotta suck it up and do the best we can. Use the extra exposure to lure 4 and 5 stars here with the knowledge they could play immediately. That coupled with UT's tradition and resources and we should be relevant again in 2 years.

whaaaat??

schedule changes go unnoticed except by the fan bases involved. did ESPN blow up 2 months ago when vandy bought out Northwestern and Ohio State? Nope, and i say 95% of the posters here dont even know it happened

in 2012 Northwestern was the best ooc team they played and they lost but still ended up 8-4 with zero quality wins. so what do they do ? never play them again!

everyone thinks james franklin is some great coach , he not, he just uses common sense. right now , id rather go 8-4 with a Vandy schedule than 5-7 playing Oregon as a 20 pt underdog in september

heres how bad ESPN blew up on Vandy
Vanderbilt drops games with Wildcats, OSU - Big Ten Blog - ESPN

quoted "Vanderbilt's 2013 non-league schedule now features Austin Peay, Massachusetts, UAB and Wake Forest. That should be enough for James Franklin to keep convincing everyone Vanderbilt is the next Stanford. "

I can't wait til we go down there and beat the shiz outta them. I know, I'm too optimistic but a guy can dream, right?

That's exactly how all games should be looked at, as the team going to play for the win. You go in thinking loss and guess what, you'll end up coming out with a loss.

You send the wrong message when you buy out of a game for no good reason. Your basically telling the kids you have no faith in them and you would rather pay money than endure the embarrassing ass whipping you have already conceded to. I didn't like it with NC and I hope we never do that again.

I can't believe this thread exist. Won't be the first team to get Ducked by Oregon. Who knows, take the points.

the good news is that oregon wont have any video of our players cause they'll all be in the nfl.....what can u possibly wanna look at? advatage UT......;)

hopefully, oregon is losing a lot of top talent this year

Unfortunately they have 15 starters returning. My hope is their coach goes to the NFL come January and they end up with a coaching mess like we went through.

This game could be interesting if Chip leaves OR. I would almost think he brings his OC as a position coach with him to help install the offense he likes. I could be totally off on that but I could see that happening. If OR were to lose both HC and OC I think this game could go much differently than we all think it will go. The only problem is that last year our defense looked like they were running in quicksand against teams like Troy. I can only imagine what we will look like against OR. Why in the h*ll would you buy this game out though? You dont play the game not to lose.

Bull$hit! Play the game. Win the game. "Anybody, anytime..." Backing out would be childish and portray a picture that would never sell on the recruiting trail. Competing means competing not piling up meaningless victories.

I think everyone knows next year is going to be bad, but I say play it out, take our licks and get tougher! Better days are on the way! Tough competition will make a tough team!

I don't agree with buying out the game. I think the players want the opportunity to compete against the "big boys" (outside of the SEC).

I'm with those who don't think we should duck the Ducks:wink2:

This loss won't be any worse than letting Vandy beat us with brass knuckles.....Tennessee mountain men will just make some more Moonshine to dull the pain
Vowles will just have to toughen up....scar tissue will indeed help......you better have thick skin if your a Vol fan.....especially for the next 2 years
