The House can't do anything without a speaker, much less pass a budget, etc.I don't see this as a huge issues some are making it. Several here have stated the GOP is wrecked etc...I'd rather have some different opinions (diversity of thought) then everyone in the party goes stepping like the DNC...
The job of the House is to be 1/2 of the Legislative Branch of government. They actually can do NOTHING without a Speaker.I don't see this as a huge issues some are making it. It's frustrating. "Oh they compromised. Traitors!"The job of the House is to be 1/2 of the Legislative Branch of government. They actually can do NOTHING without a Speaker.
The Interim Speaker cannot bring bills from committee to the floor or conduct any House business not related to choosing a Speaker. The impeachment or Hunter Biden investigation? Essentially grounded without a Speaker.
Without the House working, the Senate is stalled also from doing anything meaningful.
1/3rd of the Federal Government isn't working and there's ZERO way this doesn't reflect on GOP as being unable to govern, unable to make decisions as a group.
McCarthy being voted out was the FIRST TIME in 240+ years a Speaker has been voted out by the House. It's definitely a bad look.
I'm disgusted by the infighting. Governing is compromise. Some of these House members look like toddlers who will just shut down the entire Congress if they don't get their way.
Totally understand the frustration but having those differences leads to that compromise...problem is that any compromise is pushed as "traitorous" when in reality its better. It will work itself out and eventually we will be better off for it..The job of the House is to be 1/2 of the Legislative Branch of government. They actually can do NOTHING without a Speaker.

Agreed that the GOP does not march in lockstep. But still the House is without a Speaker. To those who feel that is a problem, remember that it is thanks to 100% of the Democrats and about 4% of the GOP.Weaksauce.
The problem is the inability of the GOP to control the extremists in their ranks. Plain as day.

So, I take it that not having a Speaker is less important than sticking it to the dysfunctional GOP.Securing a Speaker of the House is a bit more than simply "not marching in lockstep." The kind of disfunction and disarray we see in the GOP in trying to control the likes of Gaetz is in some respects inevitable in the deathspiral of the Republican Party.
Its your own fault, championing a buffoon like Trump, as the vanguard of the party. Look what it got you. Barely a majority in the House, a completely inept majority, and likely going to permanently lose even that starting in '24.
Face it, MAGA and Trump were a fleeting fancy, a chimera, a tinsel-driven distraction. But hey, its your funeral. Stick with that game plan to the bitter end (which is upon you, by the way), if you dare.
So, I take it that not having a Speaker is less important than sticking it to the dysfunctional GOP.
It's really sad to push this narrative. Without Matt Gaetz, one of our guys, none of this happens. The GOP needs to get it together or we're going to be responsible for another shutdown which costs us seats every. single. time. So, I take it that not having a Speaker is less important than sticking it to the dysfunctional GOP.
Granted a couple of "our guys" set the stage for this fiasco. My point is that the Dems decided to take a joyride at the expense of the GOP, irrespective of what may have been best for the country. The 200+ Dems are up to their eyeballs in the dysfunction. It's really sad to push this narrative. Without Matt Gaetz, one of our guys, none of this happens. Even if this were a Dem issue, it's working. But it's not. The GOP has enough members RIGHT NOW to pick a Speaker without any Dems. They can't. There's no sense in trying to spin this as a Dem issue. It's ours. America is going to see that clearly.
I hate the size of Federal government, the overreach into our lives is nothing like the Constitution planned. There is A LOT wrong with DC.Totally understand the frustration but having those differences leads to that compromise...problem is that any compromise is pushed as "traitorous" when in reality its better.
