Can McCarthy survive as Speaker?

So your not ok with the 20 that decided not to vote Jordan??? The house isn't shut down and isn't in danger of that.
I'm not okay with the 8 that voted to toss McCarthy nor the 20 who didn't vote for Jordan to be Speaker. I'm anti-chaos in the GOP. I'm NOT anti-disagreement in the GOP, but I'm not for looking like we cannot lead our half of Legislative Branch.

It's not like this kind of thing is normal for the House of Representatives NOR is this the first time one party or the other has had major differences. You work it out in private, make concessions with each other, realize you have much more common goals than differing goals, and get your $+&t together to get SOME of your agenda passed AND SOME things you'd rather not see.

As it is, none of the GOP agenda, no one's ideas to create a smaller govt, no one's ideas control spending, no one's actual resolutions are going anywhere. You think that's a good look to America?

He was making s deal with dems. That's why he was booted

LOL

More than a few righties chimed in briefly to BLAME the dems for McCarthy getting booted because they wouldn't be bipartisan and bail him out from the Idiot 8.

You guys need to pick a lane.

The House GOP is a disaster and you Trumpers supporting the Idiot 8 are celebrating their stupidity in ousting Jordan as some kind hill to die on.

Independents and moderates are watching how dysfunctional the house GOP is and their complete inability to govern. I want to be a fly on the wall at your place when the gop loses the majority, you genuinely won't understand - hey, maybe you should just start screeching about it being rigged now. Why wait?

this is on both parties if you feel it's a bad look...the GOP alone couldn't have done it ad evidence by the 20 not voting Jordan..and the 8 couldn't have posted Mcarthy without the Dems...if independents and moderates cant see that then so be it.

Read carefully: I am against chaos in the GOP.

So NOTHING being done, no attempts to rein in big government, no attempts to cut useless pork spending, no attempts to cut useless studies of cow poots, no attempts to advance anything is better than any attempts?

As I said, get together and make agreements "you can have this when you give me that" with the big govt GOP and move something from your agenda at least. No one ever gets everything they want in the world.

I get it. Small govt Republicans don't have full support, large govt Republicans don't have full support. So work together: don't give them the keys to the vault full-time but don't expect to be the only one who holds the keys all the time.

As it is, America is seeing the GOP just do nothing for them. No spending cuts. Nothing. It's not governing if you're not governing.

I understand your position I just dont believe it's the bad look you think it is....the things you speak of about working together and working for smaller government dont and won't happen because the small government faction to out numbered tremendously on both sides by the large government supporters because as long as these spending Bill's are passed they are getting rich...now with the current chaos we havent passed any Bill's adding to further debt...that's not a bad thing...in fact it's a good thing...

Trump says only JESUS could get the votes needed to become Republican House speaker - and reveals favorite Tom Emmer called him this weekend and is now the ex-president's 'biggest fan'

  • Former President Donald Trump has yet to put a MAGA stamp of approval on any of the current candidates
Donald Trump says Republicans need an act of God to find a candidate for House speaker who could reach the 217 votes needed to take the gavel.

Former President Donald Trump has yet to put a MAGA stamp of approval on any of the current candidates as the House has been embroiled in chaos for 20 days without a speaker after Kevin McCarthy's historic ouster.

The ex-president revealed that frontrunner, Majority Whip Tom Emmer, had called him over the weekend due to his perceived Trump problem - including that the Minnesota Republican had voted to certify Democratic President Joe Biden's 2020 White House win.

'I think he's my biggest fan now because he called me yesterday. He told me, "I'm your biggest fan,"' Trump said, adding that he had talked to a number of House speaker candidates.

'But I've spoken to just about all the candidates, quite a few of them and they're terrific people and then their four threshold is very tough, it's a very tough thing,' Trump said, noting how no candidate for the speakership can lose more than four Republican votes without Democratic support.

Nah.

GOP has the majority and it alone gets to decide the speakership.

Time to face the music and accept that the house GOP is a disaster and is being held hostage by the MAGA radicals who only want chaos.

Congratulations, you got the circus you asked for.

Let's see how this translates into America's confidence in keeping the GOP majority in the house.

The GOP is showing that without the Dems voting to oust McCarthy, they wouldn't have the votes to do so. Its.not the maga that's holding them hostage there's 20 votes that vote with the Dems slot that are holding up the speakership..

U serious, Clark?

There are GOP legislators having their families threatened. You don't think it's a bad look? LOL

We aren't talking about not getting enough votes to pass a bill - these dummies can't even decide on the most basic of functions without carving out favors. If you think this paralysis is what the American electorate wants, you're high. The house GOP is a laughingstock, you trying to reframe the narrative as something good is pure gold.

Egomaniac.

And I mean both of those things. Massive, bloated, overinflated ego. And a maniac dying for accolades and people kowtowing to him.

Dems didn't bring the resolution to oust McCarthy - that was eddy munster and the Idiot 8.

Own it.

This is a function of the trump sycophants ousting McCarthy and trying to sneak another trumper in the backdoor.

I get it, you're mad - you should be. It's embarrassing.

Keep blaming the wrong folks and I'm sure you'll be shocked when these shenanigans cost the GOP the house.

we are not spending more money we dont have right now...what works better 1 side having all the power or both side having some power to create an impasse??

It's the next elections I'm looking toward. The average American sees: the GOP can't work together. What else COULD they see? It's not common for this to happen so what do you think it looks like?

So, yes, they're not making things worse in the short run but in the long run if Hakeem "Nancy 2.0" becomes Speaker AND the Dems hold the Senate AND Biden sleeps through another term it's "Katy bar the door" on spending.

In close House races, the Dems are going to pound this lack of unity at voters with "At least we'll be at work for you and not bickering with each other instead of doing business."

Sure, I'd be fine if the House went into session, went into committee, and little money was spent beyond the military, security, basic infrastructure projects. I'd be thrilled if govt was less involved in my daily life and Congress handled what the Constitution says it should: very little.

None of that agenda to make govt less powerful is going forward currently, not even the little bits small govt GOP members might slip in resolutions, because nothing at all is coming from the House.

LOL, yes we are. We're just swiping a credit card right now.

Hey, the right better get it together on the speakership - not funding the Israelis in their time of need is a bad look. Just saying.

Now you can get back to telling me how this was all in the name of fiscal conservatism.

The GOP has the majority. It is the job of the majority to elect the speaker.

Read that again, phone a friend if you need to.

Trying to deflect makes you look silly.
You didn't answer the question..and I'm deflecting??? would McCarthy still be the speaker if the Dems didn't vote to replace him???

Last question then we will just disagree...
How has not having a speaker effected your day to day life and activities?? Vs when McCarthy/Pelosi were there?

Yes. I think we will disagree.

I'm pretty old and spend a lot of time thinking about my kids and grands. My personal safety and security are not my entire focus. My goal is to try to ensure the country moves in a less govt intrusive direction and that's not coming from the Dems, ever. Their agenda is strictly to promote Democratic Socialism.

To avoid that future for the kids, I want the GOP to be more conservative, less spend.... more rein in and cut dependence on govt. We'll agree that a lot of GOP members aren't in that camp but there's none in the Dem camp. If the conservative members of the GOP look like they'll obstruct rather than get to work, they'll face heavy headwind (not only from Dems but primary challenges from the establishment GOP) and my family's future looks bleaker. If the conservative GOP can work with the establishment GOP, my family's future looks less bleak.

I don't look for some kind of "magic" that Americans are suddenly going to want off the govt baby spoon. It's gradual. I think the conservative GOP is not strong enough yet to start "flexing" and this House situation reflects that.

If every time there's a compromise, the conservatives want to "fire" those that "aren't conservative enough" then we'll lose the House because public infighting isn't a good look for anyone.

To answer directly: only my sleep and my prayer time for the family has suffered. It suffered worse under Nancy and even worse than that under Obama.

To be fair, they are controlling spending...
