Candidates

Threads like this are nothing more than howling at the moon. Barnes will continue collecting his checks, and will retire with UT as his last stop. All the haters can continue to be miserable until that happens and then they will rinse and repeat and dislike the next coach we bring in.

I thought the talking point was that the “haters” are caught up pining for the old coach.

Don’t be fooled by the black hair dye. Pitino is 2 years older than Barnes.
I really didn’t even think about the age. Lol just looking at coaches who have won recently. If he could get us 1 SEC tournament title and a final four in 4-5 years I’d be thrilled.

There’s about a -5 % chance of it happening though lol

Pearl will be out of coaching before Barnes

Maybe. I don’t know what Barnes does after we finally get clear of his disastrous contract maybe he goes and coaches Division III basketball and dies on the side lines. But Pearl will absolutely be coaching NCAA division one basketball longer after Barnes has retired/ been forced out.

The next coach at Tennessee isn't likely on anyone's list or radar right now. Tennessee would end the basketball program before they fired Barnes and he clearly loves money, so no way he's giving up 5 million a year as long as he's healthy. It seems that people think if you express displeasure with the job he did this year it automatically means you think he's getting fired. He will be here 3-5 more years barring an NCAA scandal and yes, he underachieved this year and didn't do all that well last year either. He's had 2 really notable seasons here out of 6 and he beats Kentucky some. That's plenty for some but others would like to see UT win at the highest level. It now invests the money in doing so, something it didn't always do before. However the fact that in 34 years Barnes only has 1 final four doesn't lend itself to much hope of actual championships here for the crowd that would like to win one.
