CBJ Monday Presser

"This loss is on me and the staff.

MY team came out flat, unprepared, and folded in the biggest game of the season with a bowl berth on the line.

Vanderbilt is a great well coached team and we failed to capitalize on their mistakes while making far too many of our own.

I failed to meet my own expectations for the season and vow to do everything I can to put disappointments like this behind us. Everyone should be expected to be held accountable for doing their job including myself.

I am severely disappointed for the Seniors and the Vol Nation as a whole."

This presser only lacked a bamboo reference. Otherwise, it was vintage Dooley.

WE SHALL OVERCOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

angry? really? I don't feel angry. Maybe you're right.

I prefer to think we just have a fundamental difference of opinion.

You think sunshine is around the corner and talk about what's coming as if its truth. But you don't know that.

I think the dumpster fire we're in is still growing and am using the results to point to the upcoming truth as I see it.

Neither person is right, we just view things from different angles.

I don't mean to be disrespectful, unless it comes my way first.

Well put Wylo. I think all of us, including myself, need to keep in mind that we are all on the same side and having differing opinions is part of the point of discussion forums. Being respectful is half the battle to solid discussions.

Thanks. :hi:

Another coaching change isn't what the program needs right now.

The team has slid since we beat SC and lost Worley, but Butch has done an excellent job with recruiting so far and the perfect APR he pulled off this semester doesn't get enough mention, imo.

I don't know what the ceiling is with this staff, and I have some questions after the loss to Vandy---which is never acceptable---but I think we are on the right track. In full disclosure, I tend to wear orange-colored glasses.

As long as Jones is pulling in recruits he should at least get 3-4 years. If recruiting and attendance start to suffer in years 2 or 3 then watch out!

Vandy was just a better team, dude. I didn't understand fans who were expecting a win against them. They have a well-established system in place. We do not. This isn't about Butch. This is about having bad football players. Pretty simple. Vandy should have beat us by 2 TDs but kept shooting themselves in the foot.

Would you feel better about the loss if the press conference went differently? Personally, I wouldn't. Let's be honest, after seven losses, he's probably out of material.

exactly, what do you expect him to say!!!!!!!!!

Have they said what was going on with Palardy? All year he had played great, so the commentators say he is our most consistent player and he plays awful. Was he hurting?

Dont' get me wrong, I don't think Wylo and I see eye-to-eye on most things, but I don't think a negative perception is necessarily wrong as long as it's presented respectfully, like he said.

There are plenty of things to be concerned about if you want to dig into it. And let's be honest, we've been down so long it's hard sometimes to continue to believe it's actually going to get better.

Personally, I am still giving Butch the benefit of the doubt. But I don't blame those who are pumping the brakes a little after the Vanderbilt loss. It shouldn't have happened, and even though I can find about a hundred excuses as to why it did, ultimately it's still on the coach.

I'll never feel good about any loss.

Where I am disappointed is we are getting what feels more and more like reheated Dooley speeches after every loss.

well freak, you are the ultimate authority in this board, and if you feel that we have reached our potential, then so be it, there is nothing I can do, but I believe we are just at the beguinning of a wonderfull rise to the top, only time will tell :salute:

Let Dooley go man. Just relax and realize lots of coaches talk like this after a loss. Give him a little bit of time. If things continue to get worse then actions will be taken.

"It shouldn't have happened?". Are you serious? Vandy should have won that game by 2 touchdowns but kept shooting themselves in the foot. I fully expected Vandy to win because they are just better physically. Give Butch the talent and we win by 20+ points.

Just curious-at what point did you start to believe that Dooley wasn't the guy for the job?

Trust me, I have tried to let Dooley go.

We are getting weekly reminders of him though every Saturday.

I agree with you to an extent. I see things that make me wonder why they haven't been fixed.

However, I've seen programs rebuild before. Sometimes what appears to be coaching lots of time is the players. Only 2-3 years will tell if we are on the right track.

I don't know if Butch will work out, but I hope he does.

Regardless of what happens this Saturday, this has been an abysmal year. Getting beat by teams with comparable or less talent (Missouri and Vanderbilt) and getting beat by injured or poorly coached teams (Georgia and Florida disrespectfully) has me doubting the future.
Wait a minute here. If any of the above mentioned teams have more talent than Missouri, then Mizzou must have a whale of a coaching staff. I keep seeing them disrespected but every time I see them play, they look very good and very physical and very athletic and very experienced and they have only lost one game and will go to Atlanta as the East champion if they don't lose at home to A&M this Saturday. It's like the Vanderbilt thing. We keep dissing them and they keep surprising people. We keep dumping on Franklin, but if his recruits are less talented and he is such a bad coach, then why have they beaten us the last 2 years? Until we start beating some people, we don't need to diss anybody.

I am not the one to make the call on Jones so I'll leave that to the big time donors, Hart, and the BOT.

I hope Jones works out and makes me look like a complete a-- for questioning his and his staffs ability next season.

I will also always pull for the good of the program over worshiping any coach though. Not that I am saying you are, but everyone is accountable.

I have just seen too much of dodging that accountability with Fulmer, Kiffin, and Dooley to put up with any of it from Jones.

I guess I just don't know why you care about speeches or what he's supposed to say after a loss like that. If you've got a winning speech that will make me feel warm and fuzzy after that debacle, you may be in the wrong profession (assuming you aren't a speech writer currently).

Put another way, when you're critiquing the press conference after a terrible loss, I think you're just looking for something to be upset about. Which is fine, I suppose. I just don't really understand it.

I'm by no means the ultimate authority and I don't think we've reached our full potential. I like a lot of what I've seen from Jones and the black eye of losing Saturday isn't enough to put him in the red in my book, not yet anyway.

I think Vandy would have won by more if not for the turnovers, but both teams turned the ball over and I don't want to get into the debate of forced turnovers versus unforced.

I just don't believe Vandy is a more talented football team from top to bottom than Tennessee. That's just my opinion. The game was at Neyland Stadium and we had a lot to play for. Tennessee should have been better prepared and they came out flat, after having two weeks to prepare.

I put a lot of that on the staff. It doesn't mean I'm not still in their corner. It happens to all coaches at times and I'm sure it won't be the last time our staff loses a game they are supposed to win. But I think they deserve some blame for this one. You just can't lose to Vandy at home, under any circumstances.

Wylo, I think you do not understand strategy, you need to learn when to attack and when to support, there is a time for each.

I hope we will join in the right effort to get our team to succed!

Go VOOOOOOLLLLLSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!

I understand strategy. It's accountability I'm looking for. CBJ is wizzing on our heads and telling us its raining. He hasn't owned up to anything. Vanderbilt is on him. He never even attempted to own this debacle. That throws up red flags.

Red flags equal time to attack. Should I attack when all actually is well? I think you should be asking why, not offering group hugs to CBJ.

I clearly care about UT. Sometimes it feels like the squeaky wheels are the only ones that do. There are too many people that seem okay with where we are right now. The kicker is that it's the same excuses that were used for Dooley.

But I realize we want the same thing. My fight isn't with you.

I am not ok with losing, I am not ok with underachieving, this coaching staff willl have to face the music soon enough. I just don't think that time is here just yet, you have to give them the second year to prove themselves, doing otherwise is just not fair or smart.
