That is an absurd position. Some hate crimes can get the death penalty. You think capital punishment would be appropriate for a fake hate potentially? Good think our constitution protects us from absurdity like this.

I think this needs to be fully investigated and the president was right to jump in. I can understand dropping the charges, if they think its a waste of time/money, but he must admit to what he did? No way the case is sealed, too important an issue to hide what happened. I mean all they did is provoke an intense investigation from all directions which will end when all the facts are finally leaked one by one. Would have been easier just to fess up and have the DA explain what happened.
