Dude, he’s nothing like JJJ. JJJ would randomly go off for like 20 points here and there and shot 32% from 3. Mashack will never do that well offensively. He is a good player but it’s more than obvious who is the weak link on offense and it isn’t Lanier. JM is a clone of JJJ offensively and that is probably an insult to Josiah. Teams literally don’t have to guard him, he provides nothing offensively
Time to start Gainey over Lanier, today in front of his family he made every type of turnover possible, including walking, played mediocre defense, killed momentum with every turnover, got packed driving to the goal, he's not a dribble drive wing, he's a standstill shooter, had a chance to redeem himself, didn't get it done, 5th year player making first year mistakes, the skill set necessary to play at a high SEC level simply is not there, time to see if he can be instant offense off the bend without the turnovers, Rick needs to move on from the Chaz experiment, the SEC season is no training ground for kids that didn't have the necessary skills years 1 - 4.
We also aren’t in the game without his 4-6 from 3. The issues run deeper than that. Gotta rebound the damn ball and get tougher!
Chaz's 5 turnovers today were unusual. He typically over averages 1 per game. He was just flat careless today and alot had to do with how Vandy was defending him. Other teams will do likewise. He is almost strictly a catch and shoot player. Handle isn't very good and he dribbles too high. Still one of the best shooters I've seen but he can't carry the scoring load and we at times tend to become a perimeter-oriented halfcourt offense while trying to get him involved in the offense. UT will be a better offensive team when we rely on him less, his points come in the flow of the offense and others like Milicic, Mashack and hopefully Dubar (if he gets minutes) get more involved and more aggressive scoring the ball.Lanier has killed this team in conference play. Killed us. Bench him. Awful defense. Careless with the basketball. Can’t hit his free throws.
Even if you did that you'd have to bring him right in. Gainey is only playing 3 less minutes than Lanier as it is.Time to start Gainey over Lanier, today in front of his family he made every type of turnover possible, including walking, played mediocre defense, killed momentum with every turnover, got packed driving to the goal, he's not a dribble drive wing, he's a standstill shooter, had a chance to redeem himself, didn't get it done, 5th year player making first year mistakes, the skill set necessary to play at a high SEC level simply is not there, time to see if he can be instant offense off the bend without the turnovers, Rick needs to move on from the Chaz experiment, the SEC season is no training ground for kids that didn't have the necessary skills years 1 - 4.
IMO JM should be replaced in the starting lineup by Gainey. Let JM focus on defense late in the game if we need to protect a lead. Otherwise, his offense doesn’t travel and he is a liability. He is a good player but it’s more than obvious who is the weak link on offense and it isn’t Lanier. That #1 ranking was completely fools gold. Chaz is a mediocre player at best against good SEC defense. He has very limited ability to do anything outside of shoot a three. His ball handling, defense and rebounding are also slightly below average. He is decent player but he’s not a player who can lead and carry a team. He’s not an alpha dog. We have one alpha on this team, but unfortunately he’s only 5’9”.Wasn’t Chaz the leading scorer on the #1 team in the country for 5 weeks?

His 5 TOs were very costly, as was getting stuffed at end, and then missing free throw.17 Points
5-11 FG
4-6 3PT
3-4 FT
The 5 TOs were rough, but this lost isn’t on Chaz
Well, we’re only 3-2 in conference play, and we sucked plenty against Florida and Vandy. If we can’t play tougher on the road, we might wind up with 8 or 9 losses in conference which would totally ruin that “best start” and promising season.Best start in the history of TN basketball. Won another holiday tournament. #1 ranking doubling the # of weeks as the AP #1 in program
history. Yes. Our players and coaches suck.
