Yes. One would think with his nil deal, larger that most athletes you would see him often.View attachment 710363
Is this an example of what you are asking?
That's a completely bogus claim. So the powers that be wanted college football players to be paid. So be it. Also wanted to let players transfer anytime they want.....so be it!. So, now that everyone has taken a minute to watch the new rules (or lack of) in college football and basketball did it get better for everyone? Doesn't seem so does it? Maybe for only one part of it, and that is the player. The player has received the best benefit of all in getting paid and being able to go anywhere they want at almost anytime they want. A lot of smart people saw this coming and have sounded off, some , even great college coaches have decided to hang it up because they say what was to come is NOW here. Vol fans are now reaping this 1st act of a crap show with loss of players in the portal, and corruption with other teams trying to steal the best players you have on your team. I for one hate it as a VOL fan for 60 years. There is a big I in TEAM now, and it can and eventually will ruin college football for ALL OF US. This Christmas was the first time I received a piece of TENNESSEE VOL fan wear and really didn't get excited about it. Thankfully it wasn't one with a players' name on it that will probably never play for UT again.
Hopefully, this crap show will change soon.
No you wont. 5 years ago it was kickoff changes, this year it's NIL, in another 5 who knows what you will find to say ruins the game.I will stop watching......but I care about the game...........of college football. When college football loses the regular fan.......the one that pays for a ticket for him and his family, the one that buys the overpriced concessions, the one that pays for the overpriced jersey with a name on the back of a player that won't be there in a few weeks, the one that used to watch his favorite team on TV, ..........that's when college football loses ........PERIOD. Check out other sports that have made major changes either to it's players (NBA, ML Baseball), drivers, (Nascar). What has happened to their viewership...........DOWN over the last 10 years because they treated their fans with the same crap that College football is doing,
Ohtani averages $70M a year with his new contract. His boss makes about $5M.Does your boss make more than you?
Does the engineering firm make more or the engineers on the floor? Should the cashiers at wal mart make more than the Walton family? Everyone screaming “this is capitalism” is wrong. We’re in fact promoting socialism. Skilled workers and athletes should be paid well, but not 8 mil before a snap is taken. “The inmates running the asylum” is where we are at now.
I’m all for pay to play but the system is currently broken.
Some of us tried to tell others NIL with no limits and a wide open transfer portal would create havoc... And here we are.![]()
I guess you missed the part where those are called “professional” sports. These are collegiate athletes who, truth be told are college students first. It was a good try, but you’re comparing apples and pencils. The pot of gold is at the end of the rainbow, not the beginning. Hell should we start paying middle schoolers 6 years in advance if it looks like they’re gonna be good at throwing a ball?Ohtani averages $70M a year with his new contract. His boss makes about $5M.
Mahomes makes a little less than double what Andy Reid makes.
Steph Curry makes roughly 3 times what Steve Kerr makes.
That's common in sports. The "star players" make a lot of money.
A long time ago, a rookie who had not played a down in the NFL got a $16M signing bonus. His name was Manning and he used to be a band leader in Knoxville.
Sports isn't engineering.
For real, I definitely think we need some guidelines so it ain’t the Wild West but it’s not like the sport is ruined. People parrot that statement yet I bet most of them will continue to watch every year and still care, they just like to whine.Honestly, it is better than the past with Alabama cheating and NCAA not doi g jack. Getting beat 51-17 by Alabama every year under Saban was just fun.
Teams have been paying players since the 1970s.
Seems like some fans are jealous. We need some more rules in place but people are dramatic. So they should get a free education while billions are being made by others? Sorry but the laws of this country rightfully disagree with you.
Lots of pro athletes make more than their coaches. Should that be changed as well?
These are the workers in a billion dollar business who rarely, if ever, actually attend college except online or carefully monitored.I guess you missed the part where those are called “professional” sports. I don’t disagree with most of that. I think it will be much better when they are actually. “employees”. There just needs to be stricter regulation. You can spin it how you’d like, but these are still “students”. This is not the NFL. If it’s gonna be, then fine. Sign the contracts and pay based on achievements. Paying a 17 year old who was great against other 16 year olds 8 million before they’ve ever taken a meaningful snap is a little silly. These are the workers in a billion dollar business who rarely, if ever, actually attend college except online or carefully monitored.
They are athletes for the schools and about to be declared employees of the schools by the courts. They were essentially called employees by the Supreme Court years ago who didn't rule on that question because it wasn't appealed to them but basically said they WOULD have called them employees if it had been appealed to them.
When middle schoolers start earning their school $50M / yr, yes...... they will be pro players too.
No one is holding a gun to the heads of these collectives and making them pay. It's a market, it's a competition for talent, it's as American as tech workers who've never set foot in a college getting rich because they have skills the industry wants. What is wrong with that?I don’t disagree with most of that. I think it will be much better when they are actually. “employees”. There just needs to be stricter regulation.
