Confidence level in the 2016 recruiting class? (merged)

I don't care if a lot more of this class blows up as long as they end up signing a lot of quality linemen on both sides of the ball and secondary players.......

THIS CLASS IS MORE ABOUT FILLING DESPERATE NEEDS AND NOT THE "SEXY" PLAYER. TENNESSEE HAS THE ATHLETES, NOW IT NEEDS TO STOCK PILE BIG UGLIES....

we are still a class behind the Alabama's and Florida's. (really, more mental than anything with Florida), im using that as an excuse. This class should be about building depth along the lines. But, we need a bonafide possession guy, and, burner down the field, as well as secondary depth.

I think it simply comes down to this: Butch has been selling his vision of improvement and future championships. That time has now arrived. It's time to show prospects that they can get a good education, fantastic facilities/fan support, ready for the NFL, and most importantly, compete for SEC and National Championships. Next year will be critical for the 2017 class and beyond. It's Atlanta or bust, IMO...

So after a pretty rough past 10 days or so, what is your confidence that Butch and the staff can finish strong with this class? I don't mean finishing Top 5 and getting another studly class. I understand that spots are slim so we have to pick and choose, but do you think this class will still be great quality and close to his past two seasons?

It's been a pretty disconcerting last 10 days or so with missing out on JoeJuan, Smith, and then having Chidi and Tadaryll decommit/scholly pulled. Then to top it off DCG just decommitted and there is strong rumors Kongbo won't be retained either.

So, how do you think this shakes out?

This kind of crap happens every year. Unlike you, most of us have grown to realize it without getting our panties in a bunch.

We have several weeks to go until NSD. Relax, Francis.

Has anyone heard about our'17 qb decommiting ?! Kid from Indiana I believe ?! Going to Clemson instead ?*

Yeah. That happened. Hunter Johnson flipped.

This one may be a cause for concern down the road. If Dormady and Guarentaro are injured or turn out to be over rated, this is one we may be watching and wishing for.

Better now than later though. And we have over a year to replace this loss.

Question to VN:
If you were a top-rated PRO STYLE QB, why would you want to even consider UT?
Our offense is completely based upon the ability of a DUAL THREAT QB. I don't blame the kid at all. Not sure if Clemson is where I would choose though. He should head to USCw.
I'm with you

About last 10 days....
The first thing everyone does in this situation is panic, just happy I am doing things in the right order. It would be nice to get some positive news before the end of the year.

The size of the class has little to do with the quality of the class. We need to build quality depth and fill positions of need with top talent. If this class fails to do that, it will set us back. If we want to be a championship-caliber team, every class counts, and one bad year has repercussions for the next four. Dooley's last class made that pretty clear.

Hubbs and others have said that we'll take 22, if we can get 22 we want. We'll probably see a bit more restructuring, but we can still have a top 10 class.

We just want to get January visits from our top priorities and let them see the facilities. We'll be all right.

We need to build depth in the secondary, especially at safety. We also need an elite WR in this class. An elite RB would be nice too since Hurd/Kamara could both go pro after next year. And yes, we need 3-4 OL this year.

When I first heard of the decommitments, I was concerned like everyone else. However, the more I think about it and the more I read, it doesn't seem all that bad. CBJ and staff have been hitting the recruiting trail just like in past years. With so much young talent already with lots of playing experience, it's a lot tougher to sell the program when kids know there isn't going to be as much playing time as a freshman. In fact, more and more will redshirt in the upcoming classes. I'm still confident that the 2016 class will be really talented and will make a significant impact. It just may not happen until their sophomore or junior year. We'll be happy on NSD.

The recruiting picture IS cause for concern.

This.

Personally I have zero confidence at this point that Butch makes a diving grab in the corner of the end
zone and moves us back into the Top 15. And anybody that thinks I'm nuts or being a Nega, I suggest
you take a look at the big picture on 247. Looks pretty damn bleak to me.

Keep Calm...bUTch can recruit.

Some of those guys were place holders. I'm confident we will finish in the top 15.

Top 15 is not good enough if we want to ever catch Bama (for example) and go back to beating them on regular basis. To do that we must be at least in top 10 every year and even that may not be good enough because Saban seems to always be in top 3 (at least).

With only 20-22 spots available, just don't see how we could get in the Top 10. Top 15 is a good result.

For sure. Saban has gotten the top class the last 7-8 years. Wonder why they play for the title? UT needs to be top ten (or better) every year. Or we better coach em up------better.
