Confidence level in the 2016 recruiting class? (merged)

Top 15 is not good enough if we want to ever catch Bama (for example) and go back to beating them on regular basis. To do that we must be at least in top 10 every year and even that may not be good enough because Saban seems to always be in top 3 (at least).

Tell that to Hugh Freeze. He's got the longest winning streak against Bama in the country. His recruiting classes at Ole miss have been ranked like this:

2012: 47
2013: 8
2014: 15
2015: 17

A good sign. The prospects we have targeted have not committed. It appears decisions will be made in January. Hopefully we have several visits in January.

Two players were asked to look elsewhere. Hunter saw the QB logjam with Dobbs, Dormady, S. Jones, Garantano, etc and moved on.

The only one I'm concerned about was Chidi...and JoeJuan committing to Vandy. Wut?

So how does Saban do it all the time?

He hasn't. He has never had a class smaller than 24.

2008 32 commits Rank: 3
2009 28 commits Rank: 2
2010 26 commits Rank: 5

2012 26 commits Rank: 1
2013 26 commits Rank: 1
2014 29 commits Rank: 1
2015 24 commits Rank: 1

Irrelevant. Rivals changed their ranking system 3-4 years ago to only count your Top 20 recruits,
Bama still had those rankings.

So Butch presumably has about 22 spots to fill and we are hoping to finish in top 15 while Saban is ranked #1 in 2015 with only 24 commits? You think this is the formula for success for us going forward?
I think the main positive Butch has brough so far has been recruiting but that needs to continue every year going forward with no down years especially since Butch has not shown he can win with inferior talent against meaningful competition (his career record vs top 25 teams does not support him winning unless he has superior talent).

Bad example. Hugh Freeze has shown he can win with inferior talent while Butch can't, and not only at UT (look at his career record vs top 25 teams).
Also, are we going to sink so low to use Ole Miss as measuring stick for good recruiting?

Ok so tell me which areas you expect Bama to be so much better than us next year.

I'm typically a positive person. But I got to admit I'm getting worried about this class. Early on it appeared we were in on some big time guys and with the positive step forward the team/program took I would have assumed we would finish another top 5ish class.

I really like JG and Osborne. We loss some guys which I hope is us making room for some better players but doesn't look that way. I'm worried we lose Kongbo.

I really hope we finish strong with Warrior and Brown. Unfortunately I think we lost Hardman. If we want to win SEC champs & NTL Champs we got to start landing elite recruits not just good ones.

🙄 ok i agree. painfully.

In reality, Butch's recruiting wasn't as good as some wanted to believe in the previous years (bolstered by legacies, early playing time, numbers, etc) and it's not as bad as some want to believe it is now.

GA is having a 'cycle' year. new coach, defensive guy. Bama bangs. GA is our most imp territory other than our own. Gotta do well there.

Hardman never was ours to 'lose'. He was always a Dawg.

Stop using logic and put those orange glasses back on so you can say "everything is ok for 2016 recruiting":crazy::crazy: Also good point, if we had even talent with Saban (which we don't), Saban will beat Butch 9 times out of 10. That's not being negative ...just realistic.:hi:

This.

Personally I have zero confidence at this point that Butch makes a diving grab in the corner of the end
zone and moves us back into the Top 15. And anybody that thinks I'm nuts or being a Nega, I suggest
you take a look at the big picture on 247. Looks pretty damn bleak to me.

I'm pretty sure we finish in the top 17 classes (Rivals ranking) which isn't bad at all considering the numbers situation. We've landed some very highly rated recruits which makes our overall average rating per player very high. There is some chance of having a top ten class on Rivals if things fall incredibly well. Still got Warrior, Brown, Laguins, Dickerson that I think we have a really good shot with. Then you have some guys like Hardman and even Kongbo (even though he is a commit) that will be a battle to land but we have an outside shot. We always have some late highly rated surprises as well pop up. I still have faith it will work out and be another successful class.

Hugh Freeze has never had a roster as bad as the one Jones inherited.

Watch the draft again this year and see who has players drafted and who doesn't. That should tell you a little more about our roster. Our fans are delusional. We started at rock bottom.

That's fine. Go ahead and cherry pick the one class that loosely supports your opinion. The difference is that Saban had already built his dynasty by then. Up until that point he was signing large (>25 ) classes.

I don't know what you are trying to get at here. I was just providing fact-based evidence that refuted the idea that Saban has ever had a class as small as this one rank highly.

Did it take Saban 6-7 years to build a dynasty at either LSU or Bama? Becasue that's what Butch says it will take him to do it.

Quit leading our young lambs astray. :nono: RUN DUMMY!! :gone: This coach has closed the last two classes in epic fashion but don't let that stifle your need to escape! :scare: Take a sec and urinate on those "orange colored glasses" til they're flakey yellow and dripping, then jam em right on your peepers so's you can SEE things correctly less than two months before signing day. Why wait to burn it all when you got the lighter fluid in your mitts? Onward and onward I say!

You are right. Quick question for you though. How many coaches out there can do what Saban has down? Urban? That's about all I can think of. I urge you to go look at the records of the other three coaches in the CFP. Stoops has consistently won, but its taken Dantonio and Dabo quite a while to get to this point. Saban is the exception not the rule and it won't be long until he is gone.

LOL at this comparison.

Since Butch has arrived we have had 3 players drafted and probably going to have ZERO drafted for the second straight year.

Of the 3 guys we had drafted, 2 of them were in the 6th round.

Comparing Tennessee in 2012 to anything at Bama or LSU in the last 15 years is absurd.
