Cutcliffe's record at Duke makes

No you're not. You're a dumbass.

We've sucked and sucked bad the last few years, if we where consistently winning 8-9 games in the regular season and going to decent bowl games, that would be sweat.

Right now our crowning achievement is trying to get that sixth win.

Yeah, way to aim high there buddy.

Simply stating a fact, whether or not you or anyone else likes it doesn't change the fact.

Right now the team and the fanbase are desperate for win #6 and a bowl game. A 8-9 game regular season(possibly 10 wins with a bowl game) would have us winning, ranked, and guarantee a good number of excellent recruits. Even if Cutcliffe wasn't a long term solution, building a long term powerhouse is a lot easier to do with a team that can at least win 8-9 games a year than a team that struggles to break even.

Hmm sweat? Getting to 8-9 wins would do that to most of us in some way. Though here I think you mean sweet?

I considered last year a winning season because they did go to a bowl. But technically you're right because they lost their bowl game.
Technically? They were 6-6 prior to the bowl, which is still not a winning season. Technically......, you bad at math.

I think Cut would have been great here, especially if he could have hired Chief back. That being said, Duke is doing well, but it's taken him, what, 6 years to get them where they are now? Nobody here has that kind of patience.

Duke really isn't on the same footing as UT when it comes to football though.

I think you have to go back to Spurrier's time there pre- Florida to find them as being a credible football program.

Gotta think he would have taken it but don't think Hammy ever offered it....and if he did it was too late

Cut wanted full say over his staff(a fair request) and Hamilton wouldn't give it so there was never an offer.

I also think the relationship between Cut and Chief was contentious at best so a theoretical tenure with Cutcliffe at UT would have all depended on who he hired at DC.

No doubt that we would be in better shape with Cutcliffe running things but I am not sure his offense would have gotten us over the 8-9 win hump without a great DC.

OK, you got me Mr. Math but its not a losing season either and it got Duke to a bowl didn't it? And, what did you think of their win yesterday?

There was a loud and vocal minority that did not want anything to do with Fulmer's old staff, including Cutcliffe. The same crowd that was loudest in wanting to get rid of Fulmer. A bunch of "know it alls" that frankly deserve the last 4 years and should have their faces rubbed in it.:)

Well, at least someone is enjoying the last few years.

That loser mentality is what made people stick up for Dooley for so long. We are UT 8 or 9 is not acceptable. That should be our floor not our average year. CBJ has us on the 10 a year track I think.

Yep. Cut's Duke teams have been 21-40 the first five years. Vol fans would have been howling for his head.

Wow. Vickies brother?

You'll get use to 5 wins a year after a while then you won't have to worry about 8 or 9 win seasons.

me wonder what our situation would be like had he been hired in 2009 or 2010 instead of Kiffin and Dooley. Gotta say that I bet our situation would be pretty good....(not saying I don't like Butch)

There was a point back then that Cut thought he had been hired. I think that was in the 2010 cycle. We shouldn't be surprised that a similar thing happened in 2012. Multiple folks 'offering' the job.

Cutty would have been an awesome coach - he was the real coaching success during the Fulmer years. I was excited when I thought he was coming back, unlike some of the pinheads who wanted nothing to do with the old regime. I wanted Fulmer gone too, but to think Cutty was part of our demise was asinine.
I immediately wanted to slash my wrists when Cutty turned us down and we settled for Baby Kiffy instead.

Your screen name automatically makes me take anything you say less seriously.

Because of your screen name you are discredited in any discussion involving coaching ability.

We had the right combination with Fulmer Cut and the Chief, we just needed to pay the assistants what they were worth like you're seeing nowadays at other programs. Assistants are getting the respect they deserve now. Fulmer kept Chavis and Cut longer than others despite the University not paying up like they could have. Now we are desperately hurting for funds due to the last several years of losing.
Tennessee should have been ahead of the curve instead of behind ( thank you Mr. Hamilton).
Phil wasn't the problem - he at least recognized why we were successful and did his part to free the talent up to do what they were good at. He was a damn good manager and director - and that's the best thing you can have as a Head FB coach if you have excellent coordinators who are happy.
He picked a poor OC when Cut left a second time - in order to try to appease the whining minions who were bored with winning ...
Chief and Cut loved and respected Phil and stayed for a long time , in part, because of that respect despite other offers.

simple correlation ..

2005 - 5-6 - no Cutt
2006 - 9-4 - Cutt returns
2007 - 10-4 - Cutt still here
2008 - 5-7 - cutt is gone

He is a great coach
