Da Reds thread

playoffs are done bro for years to come. it is the cards and bucs division now. votto is getting paid mega money to produce and it looks like he will be no better than an average player for now on. he will be a lot of the reason we won't make the playoffs for the simple reason we can't sign anybody else. price on the other hand if handed the 62 yanks would find a way to screw it up. that being said with jock still running the show we missed our chance to make a good run at the series. we are on the padres level now. not much hope because of poor choices. we will have to rely on prospects.

Okay, let's go in order:

1) Votto is getting paid mega money but he will be better than average because he has an elite skill. Maybe not great, but it won't be horrible assuming his knees are healthy.

2) I wouldn't assume Pittsburgh is going to win 90 games a year. They still have holes.

3) With the new TV contract, teams are going to get a lot more money. It's not 2005. Votto's contract won't be too much of a hinderance. And your owner has shown willingness to spend. They just have Homer Bailey a $100M contract for goodness sakes.

4) With Jock running the show you made the playoffs for the first time in fourteen years, made the playoffs three times in four years (first time since the mid 1970's) and you have had a good farm system since he took over. The playoffs are a crap shoot. You could have easily had been the Giants. You just got to get in.

5) It was a year from hell. It sucks that a lot of bad **** happened this year but it happens. The Reds will be fine. Jocketty is a good GM. He knows how to win. He will definitely improve the club. I'm negative about my teams but I don't even understand why you guys are so down on your team all the time. I like the Reds and watch them a good amount because they come on here in East Tennessee. That team still has good pitching. Bullpens are easy to fix. If you can get everyone healthy and find a couple good bats, you can win 90 games next year no problem.

alright i can answer these with all honesty.

1) i personally believe votto is done. his knee will never be healthy. it has been 2 years and he still is having problems and can't push off of it. votto is also a head case he has talked about quitting baseball before and seems to me is in it more for the money than to win. big reason cincy fans turn on him so fast, other than the fact he gets paid 22 mil a year.

2) the bucs have money to spend and have young core players that will be there for awhile. it will depend if they decide to open there wallet to buy talent.

3)yes the tv money helps, but absolute stupid contracts to votto and bailey have killed any chance that they will have any money in the future. a prime example is cueto will need to be signed next season and as it looks latos and leake will not be back because of the idiocy of jocketty. not to mention that louisville has nothing left on the farm.

4) see above. also jock did never go out and get a big right handed bat. it has been 5 years for christs sakes. most of the good players on the team were signed by krinsky.

5) the reds are a mess. cueto latos and leake are all up for contracts and it looks like cueto will be the only one they will sign, with the other 2 probably trade bait during the summer. we still have price the worst manager in baseball and jocketty ( which if he was so good why is price still there considering almost every reds fan i know say he sucks ) running the show into the ground making dumb signings and bad trade deadline choices.

all this leads me to believe the reds probably won't make the playoffs for years to come. like most small market franchises they had a nice 5 year run and had there chances. now we will have to wait another decade for talent to grow. i can't get over the fact that in my mind we were a big right handed bat away from really being close and jock and bobby boy pissed it all away.

You know who else is a "head case" that has actually quit baseball before, not just talked about it?

Zack Greinke

Like how he bats .334/.477/.578!slash line for his career with RISP? You mean the fact he played 162 games last year? Please. You guys look for a scapegoat and use him because it's easy and controversial. Poor dude plays 62 games on a bum knee and you blame him for the season.

This is more to champy than you. Your manager does seem bad in games I've watched. You guys had a bad year, but you've won the division two out of four years and playoffs three out of four. Your management team is solid. You aren't the Padres.
C'mon Z. He is not The scapegoat. He is one several major scapegoats. Add Price, Jock, Smith, Bell, anybody that plays LF, Bruce, Hoover, etc. Go listen to Votto's recent interview. Votto said the fans are at fault for wondering why he isn't playing. He says he will play when he plays - he's inured - he's tired of hearing about it. BP comes back several weeks early from the same injury as Molina. Why - wants to play even if he's not 100% to try to help the club. "Poor guy..." - really? That's how you want to defend it? We know he cannot do it. But there are no warm and fuzzies, pat on the heads, poor Joey's with us because he has been a total jerk. Non-Reds fans and trolls are the ones that don't understand. But I don't see any of them clamoring for him to be on their team. Funny how that works.

You can use his career stats all you want - they are useless today and for the past two seasons. Not the same player any more. His OBP king deal is not what they signed him to do and not what the club needs. So lets deal with what is - not what once was. OBP without RBI/RISP means nothing.

The Padres fired their GM. They took action. Bob is talking that he is keeping Jockety. Hope he recovers his lost mojo in the off season because there are some huge holes for this 4th place in its division club to plug. From division champs to the outhouse in 2 seasons. But the same manager you think is bad, and we agree, was hired by the same owner and GM that also did the albatross contracts that are killing the team today.

I will be as fascinated as anyone to watch them try to wiggle out of this one.

i grew up watching rose and morgan. guys who wanted to win and wanted to play. i sure wouldn't give a guy 20 million bucks if you wouldn't sure he wanted to play. that being said i hope the hell he quits so we can get that money back.

Pete Rose never cared about money you guys.

Oh, Pete loves his money. He also gave 100% each and every time he put on the uni while playing hurt and staying all over his teammates to do likewise.

You know, I saw Pete play his first season. My dad and I went to games back then at the old Crosley Field. Maybe you can enlighten me about old Pete. lol.

Bud - we both know as well as the knowledgable Reds fans actually following the team that they need a heart transplant from Bob C down. You can count on one hand the number of players that give their all like Rose, Morgan, etc. did. Call it a sign of the times - but I call it BS. It is either in you to hate to lose, or it is not. If you hate to lose you will work your azz off to not lose. If you love to win more than you hate to lose, losing comes with the territory and a shrug of the shoulders with a "we'll get 'em next time". That describes Walter, Bryan, coaches, and most of the team - especially Votto - to the "T".

Bajakian on what @UTCoachJones said to the official after the challenge of the OU fumble: "I'm glad you gave your best effort"

Still in it to get the record on one run losses. 11 games left and 6 to tie. Go Reds!

Johnny going for 19th win tonight. One bright spot in a terrible season.

Don't know if any you - Champy, Blue, Volatil, etc. that are real Reds fan saw the game telecast a few minutes ago. This Votto thing is really getting bad. They asked Jim Day to explain his attempt to get an interview with Votto very recently. To paraphrase; when Jim asked for it he told Votto it would not be a rehash, it would be positive, and he would even submit his questions to Votto in advance. His words, "Joey politely declined".

Something you trolls, stats guys and drive bys would never understand.

Declining that interview is really going to cost you the Central this year

Where is video or audio of that interview? That would be interesting to hear.

Sorry, I just don't understand what declining an interview means.

typical votto. he would have just stuck his foot in his mouth anyway.

Walter has got this club perfectly positioned for the future. lol. If BP had not gritted out a base hit the Cubs would have no hit them last night 7-0. It's been decades and decades since a no-hitter has been thrown at Wrigley for obvious reasons. I was kind of hoping it would happen since shame can be a powerful motivator for change. Bruce was hilarious. He gets his whiffs in, bounces out of the box toward the dugout like "Okey Dokey, that's done". lol.

yep nice article in the cincy paper telling us no money to go get a bat and probably 2 of our 4 starting pitchers will have to be moved. we will be ok though.lol. they also said big contracts for bailey, votto, phillips and bruce are the cause. tell us reds fans something we don't know. thanks jock your work here for the cards is done.

Bruce is batting .180 since the ASG break. He rarely advances a runner like tonight with Frazier on third with the tying run and only one out. Choate strikes him out on an out of the zone blazing 84 MPH fastball. And this is the guy they are contracted to pay close to $25 mill to over the next two seasons. Well done, Walter. lol. Missed it earlier, tonight was #38 for one run loses. So they are now 22-38 on the season in that category. lol bad.

Walt gets a multi-year extension for turning this club into a laughingstock. I knew I should have gone into sports management in college. You can be totally incompetent with your salary paid by competitors and still keep your job if you do the boss. Braves GM - fired. Padres GM - Fired. D-Backs GM and Manager - Fired. Reds GM - Contract extended multi years with a job well done pat on the head for his incompetent manager.

In other news the illustrious Votto Foundation has been officially closed down. The same foundation that was to provide help for Vets and others with PTSD, which the club advertised like crazy and was on FS Ohio every game. Joey decided he wanted to remain private with his donations. What a frickin head case. Maybe it is a precursor for him leaving.

One of the best interviews on baseball hitting I have heard with Pete Rose in awhile was just done with Jim Day interviewing at GABP during the game. When asked why BA's/production are down over the last couple of years throughout MLB, Pete responded with most hitters today do not know how to hit with two strikes any more - they make no changes in their swing or approach. He said that it's not about choking down on the bat, it's about choking down in your mind. Shorten the swing and focus in your mind on doing whatever it takes to put the bat on the ball. He said they don't think about who is pitching against them or how to adjust, that there are so many quality pitchers that you have to know what you are going against (summarizing).

Was very complimentary of Bud Selig. Still hopes to be reinstated, but understands that he is paying for his actions and holds no ill will about it. Does not know the new commissioner.
