Da Reds thread

Looks like it, I appreciate what Harvey was able to do here but it was obvious he wanted to be in a big market. On another note we better enjoy Castillo while we can, he is going to command a hefty contract that I don't see us paying when he comes up for free agency. Went 7 innings while giving up 3 hits and 2 runs and 13 Ks.

The definition of an ace IMO. 98 mph fastball with a devastating change. FA in 2024. So if they are going to do a deal it needs to be by next off season or he will be way too pricey. He will be 27 next season and doesn't become arb eligible until 2021. Might be time to strike a Suarez equivalent mid-range deal. Wasserman is the agency repping him and they are not baseball specialists - more broad based.

Since we'll be in Pitt would have been awesome if they all went with boxer names or references!!

I've really tried to give Disco another look as the season has gone on. Not seeing much improvement despite having DJ help all season. Looks to be a Homer type issue to me - between the ears. How many times do you need to see your fastball thrown over the plate belt high fly out of the stadium before you realize you don't have enough to challenge hitters like that? He has no out pitch, so he has to paint corners up and down. Odd man out unless he can develop something in the off season.

Better than Mahle I suppose. As the 5th starter I don't mind him to much but if we can upgrade that slot than I wouldn't be opposed to releasing him or trading him. On another note, why in the heck don't you walk Trout with nobody on and 2 outs in the inning instead they pitch to him and Disco gives up a homer.

We also signed Brad Boxberger to a minor league deal, my guess he will soon take Hernandez's place in the pen.

Disco's a homer machine and has been for years. I agree Mahle wasn't ready either and I see Disco the same way, as a 5th starter until they find someone better.

I watch how good pitchers are at locating. He's Homer. Does not matter where the target is placed, he throws where he throws. Sometimes he gets up or down OK, but the rest of the time it is ridiculous. No out pitch, just like Homer. You can be like Keuchel or Wood and top out a fast ball at 90 if the ball has a little movement and you paint the corners and move it up and down with a tricky delivery. Straight down the gut 93- 95 turns you into a homer machine with no out pitch to fear.

Good win last night - responded immediately to the A's and kept the hammer down. The pen got it done.

We just can't get ahead in this game, we manage to tie it up but than give the lead back up. We absolutely have to take 3 games this series to seriously push for the playoffs.

At this point I don't know how Hernandez can look his teammates in the eye and go out there and put up this kind of performance day in and day out knowing that we are in the playoff hunt. Also Peraza's defense is such a liability what an awful way to start his important series.

Yep - on both counts.

The org needs to 60 day DL Hernandez so he can at least sign a deal next season with somebody else. If he continues his ERA is going to be over 20. He deserves the DL over a release.

Peraza is not a SS. He will rank near the bottom on DWAR for his entire career. Peraza is utility. Again, I would make every attempt to sign J-Iglesias. If not, you have to go get a proven SS.

If it's me, I'm looking to make a deal for a CF that hits LH or SH. Senzel has done really well in CF, however, he is a natural IF and would be an AS at 2B.

Still not sold on C being resolved. Will see how it goes. It is down the list of needs.

Corner OF is done. They will face a decision on Winker IMO. He does not hit LH pitching, whereas, Ervin has proven he can hit RH pitching. Ervin has speed and his D is improving rapidly now they he is playing more. Aquino owns RF on my team. Future AS. That gun of his is a missile. He just needs to play and work on pitch selection at the plate since opponents will develop a book on how to pitch him going forward. He needs to stay as he is physically because he has a frame and athleticism that is not prone to injury.

Farmer and VanMeter should be locks for utility. MLB is probably going to 26 man rosters next season - so there will be an additional position player available.

Improve the pen in the offseason and maybe find another SP. Doubt they sign Wood. Last night was a bit of an eye opener about his possible future.

It's all pointing toward 2020 for the playoffs. The offseason moves will determine yes or no.

Shocker - something different. The org just designated Hernandez. Good call, Burrhead. I didn't think they would, thought they might DL him. They are bringing up Big Sal. Good move, he did well the last time he came up.

Looks like Bauer's night is over and man it was a beauty: 7 IP, 3 hits, 11 Ks, 2 BB, 1 ER on a solo homer. I would have seriously thought about sending him out in the 8th if I were Bell because he still looked strong.

Just like that Lorenzen issues 2 straight walks to open the 8th and no outs with a 4 run lead.

Edit: Now gives up a single to load the bases with no outs and now his night is over with 16 pitches and didn't get a single batter out unbelievable.

2nd Update: Frick this bullpen Garrett comes in and hits Rizzo to bring in a run and still no outs.

After the HBP Amir was ice cold. Great win, got Gray and Castillo pitching Saturday & Sunday to take the series.

Garrett was a killer. Rizzo crowds the plate and flails so much he is nearly over or is over plate when he gets hit a lot of the time. The umps look the other way. Glad he hit him, it took the bat out of his hands. Amir then shut them down.

Lorenzen has got to become more consistent. This walking batters garbage needs to stop.

Nice to be excited again about Reds baseball in August.
