Dave Hart Mr. Controversy

You tried to use the General to make your point...and failed. No one is using Neyland's name to take the Lady out of the Vols...Summitt's hard work making her program has been used in this argument...quit swerving Boobs.

Dude, ending your comment with sexist insult really buttresses your credibility.:banghead2:

Volly P's point is that the LVs are an established part of Tennessee's athletic tradition. Hence, dropping the LV brand is analogous to deciding that the legacy of General Neyland needs to be replaced with something more contemporary.

I can't follow this - What are you talking about?

The original comment from another poster was that the decision was related to fear or deference to pat. That comment was not about tradition. Your comment regarding neyland was relative to interference with tradition. The point you made was not relative to my comment about decision making by the utad that still relates to pat's opinion or feelings. I believe all decisions at this point related to matters such as this should not be relative to pat's opinion or feelings. Pat should take the money shes receiving as coach emeritus and smile at whatever those giving her that check want to do. Then we can drop the lady vols from womens basketball too and unite the fan base without any sexism interfering from the lv defenders.

HIS screen name...c'mon now. :)

The fact that you do not think Pat's contribution to UT and women's basketball in general is not part of our tradition, just shows how sexist you really are.

Reading comprehension. Try it sometime. I commented that this discussion has nothing to do with tradition. She is absolutely 99 percent of the womens tradition and quite a bit of the overall vols tradition regardless of gender. My point is that it is troubling if utad decisions of this magnitude are taking into account whether pat will personally approve or be offended today. I didnt say that was the case, but the original poster made that inference.

Honestly, I don't think his post had anything to do with my point!

And I also don't get what you're saying either - to me, it seems you're arguing against things that aren't being said. Just sayin'.

Ok, thanks, I wasn't following what you were saying to begin with, then.

I don't believe Pat's opinion or feelings were considered in this decision. She is out like yesterday's garbage. She is also staying out of this, and as far as I know, has made no comments about the situation. I am impressed that she stays in touch with the team, goes to the game and enjoys what's there for her to enjoy without getting into any of the politics. She is tough.

Thanks for having my back, madtownvol, but honestly, if you're going to run around the Internet with a moniker like "Volly Parton", you can't get upset about being called "Boobs", lol :thud:

(I went with "Volly Parton" because I live in Nashville and not because of my singing or ... anything else.)

Hey Volly, I think you are hearing exactly what I was saying now. I believe there is some sentiment out there that basketball would lose the lady vol moniker too, if not for pat. I have no idea if that is true, but i have heard rumor of stories in the past of pat favoring lady vol logos. Again, no idea if true or not, but it makes me less sympathetic to her opinions if she is a force behind the name remaining for one sport only. I dont much care either way, but leaving the name for one sport only defeats any message from the ad of single logo identification. Since the decision has been made for all others, i think bball should change too in order to make the reasoning given honest. I also think all of the dissention stems from the former womens athletic department being eliminated in order to combine. Hart looks bad as a result, but i wonder if some of the ones resenting the combination made it look worse than reality.

There was a recent newspaper or magazine article where Tyler Summitt was quoted talking about how Pat would make sure the LV logo was used at their events (like the SEC women's tournament) rather than the over-all UT logo, but that was when she was coaching and building the brand, as was her responsibility. I have not heard of her getting involved in the current LV stuff at all, but of course I'm not in a position to really know.

The discussion is about the logo Lady Vols...Pat Summitt's name is used a lot to argue your point...any inclination to just go with Vols is seen as a slap at her...even though the basketball team is keeping the logo...in the middle of this you try to use an analogy of Robert Neyland being irrelevant ...easy to see how you lost track when you ran off the same tracks yourself.

When do we get to stop tip-toeing around Pat? I'll be glad when her reign of power over that which is not her business ends. Then we can actually stop this sexist designation and separation.

How is it not her business? She is still employed by UT directly involved with the Lady Vols business. Your second comment is just ignorant, IMO. Just sayin'.:hi:

I think there is a reason Pat is not saying anything. I think it's called salary and mainly health insurance. I'm sure Pat's medical bills are huge. She can't afford to lose her health insurance.

She is coach emeritus, not ad meritus or director of marketing emeritus. Therefore, none of her business. Not sure why you can't understand the final conclusion. Those with visions if sexism dancing in their head are actually the ones prolonging sexism in this situation. Ironic, isn't it?

I think you misunderstand Pat's situation. If she still had any authority within the dept., dropping the Lady Vols brand would never have been an issue.

So, do you think Pat just sits in an office somewhere all day and draws a paycheck for it?

This isn't about sexism in any way.

It might depend on how her condition has or has not progressed...she has early onset dementia...if she didn't she would be the head coach and would have more of a voice. Would be interesting to see how much of an advocate for the softball team... since her team kept the logo.

I think her condition is progressing a little slower than some thought. She's doing a lot of mental gymnastics to slow the process.

Yes, that's exactly what i think or suspect;though I'm not privy to her attendance records.

The sexism is those thinking hart, etc are sexist; then arguing for a name that prolongs that situation as a policy is introduced promoting equality. So, ultimately sexism is an issue, it's just not located where most people are seeking it. It's in the mirror of the lady vols supporters.

I think perception might be the issue.

Good to know...you have an inside?

I read, listen and keep my eyes open.

Not being snarky...You stop hearing stories about the Dean Smiths,Ronald Reagans, Charlton Hestons et al, it's usually not good...last one I read was months ago, when Tyler landed La Tech.
