Derek Chauvin trial

Yeah... If only Botham Jean (a black man) of Dallas, Texas had cooperated with Dallas Police Department patrol officer Amber Guyger (a white woman) on the night of September 6th, 2018 after she illegally entered his apartment and shot him to death while he was standing (unarmed) in his kitchen and minding his own damn business... maybe he would still be alive?

LOL! Nah... that was one black guy who never had a chance.

You lose!

May be but they aren’t getting killed at 5x the rate. That’s what matters. The whole narrative surrounding this needs to stop.
Since 2019, the same number of unarmed black Americans have been killed by police as unarmed white Americans. That does mean that unarmed blacks are five times more likely to be killed by the police as unarmed whites in the United States.

And can anyone cite an example of a completely innocent, unarmed white person with no prior criminal record or outstanding warrants for their arrest being killed by a police officer in their own place of residence while minding their own business, which is in any way comparable to what happened to Botham Jean in Dallas, Texas? No. I didn't think so.

Well ok then it is not 7:1 whites to black. It is 12.5% blacks or stated a different way 8:1 whites

Thanks for the clarification

Which makes the ratio of “excess force” against blacks even more egregious.

I guess if someone is committing a crime in the future, there shouldn't be an arrest until one's race is determined.

I think the biggest problem is that cops are scared of black people. When they talk about "systemic racism" thats one facet of it. I'm not completely sure its racist in nature but I suppose it is as they don't appear to be as scared of white people. Not every type of racism is a guy spouting the N-word, I wish it was that easy. But its not, it can be underlying and not even intentional.
---

With George Floyd, the dude was all messed up and handcuffed and yet they were still scared of him. The murderer cop in Dallas, she freaked out at the sight of a black guy in his kitchen. Philando Castile, same thing. Guy had his kids in the car and they were scared of him.

They get scared and they shoot. Gotta stop with that

I genuinely feel sorry for you. It must be hard going through life as yourself. Micro-racism? List all the ills in our society that aren't rooted in racism. I will hang up and listen

You shouldn't feel sorry for me at all. I am a white female so I have/enjoy privileges that others dont in this discussion at hand, ie. interactions with the police

Reading your posts is like seeing a baby bird that fell out of the nest, you really want to help it but there isn't much you can do for it except nudge it along the way. I am rooting for you!!

I think the biggest problem is the police don't do enough to police themselves. They know there are bad apples among their ranks but "brotherhood" or "the blue wall" or whatever you want to call it prevents them from calling out those bad apples. Which is a shame, because when those bad cops, like Chauvin, bring shame and dishonor on their ranks, it makes them all look bad. They could save themselves a lot of grief by simply working to weed the bad cops out of their ranks. And I'm convinced they know who those bad cops generally are, they just choose to remain silent out of some misplaced sense of loyalty.

Totally. Chauvin's charge and conviction could've been a great thing for police officers in this country. But unfortunately many are blowing it by siding with him. sad.

No that’s what the righties say. I say rogue cops profile minorities especially blacks. White’s kid gets stopped with pot the cop sends the kid home
I think you're right. They should go to neighborhoods - based on race - at exactly the same number/day. If you gonna be a thug, wait until the cops have used up their quota of calls for the day, then it's a cop free zone. white or black... Asian or Indian. Everyone is the same, based on race alone.

Good Lord. You pick one case out of literally millions of contacts to build a hill upon which to die. Mr Botham was a tragedy. Many are not. The 16 year old fool in Columbus was not tragic. She got what she asked for.

For the guy who just soap boxed about bad usage of stats a pure nationwide demographic is a bad usage of stats. Cops cant really shoot someone they dont have an interaction with.

If you actually wanted the truth you would look at number of cop interactions vs cop shootings. That would actually tell you if cops were violently targetting one group over the other.

And I have no idea what that stat is, so it could support your hypothesis. But using demographics alone is lazy.

The fact that a 16 year old thought trying to kill someone else with a knife was somehow necessary or "okay" is tragic IMO.

Next time you get pulled over, get in the LEO’s face and be totally disrespectful.
Then report beck to us about the consequences.
(Don’t forget to fight and kick like hell when they try to load you in the squad car.)

no thanks. But I'm willing to bet even if I did I would not be shot

If nothing else I hope you learned a valuable lesson: police don't always get off. You said that over and over again. You now should know that that's not true. In many of those other cases police "got off" because the evidence did not support the narrative the media gave you pre trial.
