Developing story on Mel Tucker

I think he’s saying Pruitt, Tucker, and Steele were Fulmer’s list of possible coaches. With the Tucker sexual harassment deal and Pruitt basically being a terrible coach and somehow an even worse cheater, that leaves Steele as the only one of those that might have been a decent coach. Or at least that’s what I’m getting from it.
YEP, and possible rather than probable at that. His lack of obtaining an HC gig anywhere else is what it is. It was so late in the cycle and our previous AD's dumb and dirty laundry out there for all to see, extending Steele's interim gig, giving him a shot at earning a full time slot MIGHT have been the best available choice. Don't see how it could be worse than Pruitt or Tucker with his hit and run job out west before going to MSU, IF IF IF there is any validity to this reported action up there. A longer engagement could have ended up any number of ways. Not sure any of the candidates throughout the ENTIRE search would have been winners, but surely some would not have been as BIG losers.

Hiring hookers is illegal.

Hey, I get it. MiST is looking for any reason to reduce or possibly get out of paying Tucker a buyout and this gives them the ammunition they need.
Technically it was an "escort service." Not illegal.

OM fired Freeze because he made them look bad. Mich St will do the same with Tucker.

You think Michigan State University is okay with a professor having a relationship, even a consensual relationship, with an adult student in one of their classes?

Do you think Michigan State University is okay with an admin having a consensual relationship with someone in the office?

Do you think Michigan State University is okay with a coach having a consensual relationship with someone on staff?

Based on the above answers, do you think Michigan State University is okay with a coach having a consensual relationship with a contractor being paid by the athletic department?
Unfortunately I think MSU is good with a lot of things that other universities, and businesses, would find reprehensible. But, since they owe a coach - a losing coach - a lot of money they suddenly found a moral compass.

You’re getting your timelines mixed up. Steele wasn’t interim coach when Fulmer decided on Pruitt…he was DC at Auburn. He served as interim after initially being hired as Pruitt’s LB coach.

Even in HIS statement he admits that due to personnel and football issues, her presentation was postponed. While he says he didn't cancel it, he implies strongly that he had control over it. He COULD have cancelled it, obviously. That's power. If you can get a contractor's contract cancelled, you've got power over them.

The marriage issue is as disgusting as being a man of his age tugging on a phone call. I'd be embarrassed to be acting like a teenager and it's little wonder if that's his idea of a good time that he's having problems in his marriage. It's immature. You're making ridiculous money, at least go on a "recruiting trip" to her area and meet her like a grown man.

He's a joke. Seriously, a joke of a man.
Are you some kind of Puritan or what? If men are breathing they're horny, no age limits.

With the Tucker deal Guess Steele was only possible winning pick from the left over short straws at the end of CPF’s first week in office as AD.

I had hoped to name him interim for the next year. At the time he might have bought it for a shot at his alma mater.

Sometimes timing just stinks.
If PF had taken the job on interim basis, whose back would he have had to stab to get it on permanent basis?

Don't mistake having self discipline for being a Puritan.

Just because you're horny doesn't mean you masturbate on phone calls. At his age, if his sexual urge is THAT out of control and he "just couldn't help himself" or something, he needs help.

At some point you put away childish things and grow up and become a grown man. Grown men have self-control.

I get hungry but I don't go into a restaurant and start foraging like grizzly bear. I order, like a man.

I get horny but I don't whip it out on phone calls. I meet the woman and we go from there.

It's about being a man. Not being a drooling, club carrying, male savage.

I do not think it's as simple as "if a person reports it, it is unwelcome." There is a possibility that the person wanted it at the time, the relationship fizzles, then she wants revenge and reports it. My point here is that whether this was welcome or not welcome is a pertinent component when considering whether harassment occurred.
That's possible. I've seen it happen.

The problem with "the relationship fizzled" story is that I believe Tucker himself said he'd never been alone with her.

Define: relationship in terms where you can masturbate on the phone with a woman you've never been alone with.

If you can, it probably involves a couple of teenagers or a payment situation.

Adults play in person, at least after a month or two, especially when one of them is a multi millionaire who can schedule travel with no problem.

Sorry, maybe I misread your intention but with the emphasis in your post on age it sounded like you think men should become monks once they hit a certain birthday.
That self control you rightly mentioned should be developed in adolescence and in place by adulthood.

The employer decides where the line is when it comes to "causing shame, embarrassment, or ridicule to the university."

The very fact we're discussing this still after several days tells me Mel Tucker will never coach at Michigan State again.
It’s not up to one party to decide on definitions. If there’s disagreement it can go to arbitration or become a legal issue for the courts to decide.
There’s a whole lot about this case that we don’t know, so it’s early to declare guilt or innocence.
I agree that Tucker won’t coach at MSU again. The only question is what will happen with his bank account.

I know from experience that teenagers are going to teenager. I'd like them to be able to win over the hormones but they don't. Never have and never will. Even the best kids, the ones you never expect, the guys and the gals, are horndogs with the self-control of toddlers some days.

By the time you're Mel Tucker's age and especially by the time you sign a $90M contract, you should have a handle on what not to handle on a phone call even remotely connected to your work.

Slice this up any way you want, he's an idiot who deserves whatever happens.

The complaint is 1200 pages? I think she set him up.
1200 pages, I expect there to be a detailed transcript of their conversation. I know it happened late a night, but I doubt reviewing a spreadsheet line by line was what caused Mel to get so cranked up that she knew he was ......... we you know.......

Well, he's already suggested the hearing with MSU will be a sham. They will hold the hearing and he'll be terminated.

He's in a situation like Pruitt was: do I REALLY want all this to go public when I file a lawsuit? How can I embarrass the school into paying me? Pruitt failed, apparently, to have any cards to play that could hurt UT.

Maybe Tucker has something on MSU.

Relationship doesn’t have to be physical. It’s possible that she was fine with his actions or even encouraged them, and then later when she saw an advantage in reporting them as harassment she did. Or not. As the case moves forward we may find out what really happened.

I mean Manti Teo got catfished into thinking he was in a relationship with a fake girl.

Online dating, and sites like OnlyFans, offer plenty of no-contact relationships that are quiet sexual. This isn't the 50s anymore. its not like he didn't know what she looked like or couldn't google her if he needed visual aids.

It's uphill to claim "we had a relationship for months" but I've never actually been alone with her. I could get it if they lived on different continents and lacked resources to meet, but he's got cash and got a university that wouldn't question a "recruiting trip" for him.

If THEY wanted to meet alone, even when she was in town, THEY would've met alone.

I suspect HE wanted to meet alone and SHE strung him along for gifts and future bookings for her business.

Have I mentioned he's an idiot?

It's not like they hadn't been in the same town before, but he said they'd never been alone and she wouldn't see him without her assistant being there.

He got played. He's been made to look like a fool. He's going to lose generational wealth because of it. He's an idiot.

I agree he got played. just saying it exists.

I'm thinking it had to be multiple conversations.
