DirecTV and the SEC Network (merged)

I did in fact do the research. It takes a few minutes on google and you can get any major tech publisher who has done a "Dish vs DirecTV" comparison will tell you the exact same thing.

Dish became huge ONLY because of the hopper. Their actual HD offering is weak. They have fewer channels broadcast in HD and many of their so called HD channels are only in HD part of the time. They are not even full time 24/7 HD channels. They dont even carry all the national broadcasters in HD.

Perhaps you'd better do a side-by-side comparison because I'm beginning to think you own a 720p television or maybe have never actually seen HDTV. Maybe you thought that just because they gave you an HD receiver that you would get HDTV on your picture tube TV? It doesnt work like that. I dont know your situation. Anyway, you probably better check because I think you are being duped.
I have 1080p TV's and Direct and never been able to get anything more than 720p. I switched from Comcast last year and thought I had better picture and programming thru Comcast. DTV sells you a lot of channels but most of them infomercials. I do not know about Dish but I am sure unimpressed with Direct.

Uverse has the clearest HD picture I have seen... I haven't seen Xfinity to do a comparison, but Uverse is the best I've seen personally...

I called directv today here in Atlanta and said I wanted to cancel because they didn't have the sec network. A manager immediately jumped on the phone and assured me that it was a "done deal" and that it would be up and running no later than mid August at the latest. FWIW.

I've had both, my dad currently has Dish, there is no comparison. Dtv has better HD and DVR services... And that's not somebody doing comparison studies, that's looking at my TV, real world comparison... I don't know why you keep bashing DTV, it's like you work for Dish or something,if you like Dish, good for you... Collect your awards and place them on the mantle, some of us will be happy with our DTV FANTASYLAND...

I had Directv for over ten years, there is no comparison between what I had last year, and what I have no with Dish, I did the research, Directv is living in the past, Dish blows it away.

I receiver everything in 1080i if it is transmitted with that resolution, and most are. You should check with DirecTV.

Press "Menu", "Settings & Help", "Settings", "Display", "TV Resolutions", and check all them.

Go tell them to go FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFF THERESELF, like I did I told them I was not going to fffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffffff around with them all day long told them to stick the NFL package up there nose, you know what I mean this is VOL COUNTRY, the h2ll with the NFL.:)

"You're bigger than me"...One who flew over the coo coos nest.

Fanboys up in here lol. I've had DTV, Dish, and Comcast. To be honest Dish has been the best all around package in my book. I also like that they are Tennessee based. SECN is a must have for me, I'm sure DTV will sign on soon.

Is this your opinion or do you have a link to support your claims?

Dish can do more for less money, and all in HD.

I can watch my all of my Dish programming and Dish DVR from anywhere on my iPad using their App, I can even access my DVR and watch stored recorded shows for play back on my iPad.

Dish is a corporate sponsor of the Vols, what does Directv support?

Here is a head to head review of the two.

Are you sure, the customer rep in this link says otherwise. He says all dish offers 1080p is some video on demand. It is a few months old, but I have been wondering if anything is in 1080p besides movies.

The best deal by far...get a group together contact a commercial directv company (ours is out of Knoxville) and set up a private office viewing account. Downside is you have to buy the equipment and you don't get all the features...the plus side is I have 3 dvrs and get all movie channels, sports channels plus all the regular channels....for $54 a month. Since we have 6 households, when we order say Sunday Ticket, it costs the same as residential, but we divide it by 6, so significantly cheaper.

Hi Gunner,

Didn't know if you saw me put my post up there of the same link a few posts ahead of yours, but there are HUGE flaws in this review.

Dish DOES NOT have all the HD channels that DirecTV has.

Dish DOES NOT have all the sports programming channels

Dish IS cheaper, but by only $5 per month, and that is lame, because for 1, they don't have the channels (in HD or not)

-----

So First off, how can this guy "do his research" and give the better price to Dish? And the point? Sure, Dish has the better price, but they don't have the quality. That's for sure.

He was right about the "hoppa" ....

And if the Installation and Customer Service is a tie, then there is no real sensible reason to have Dish the winner when they don't have all the channels (and the HD channels) .... For $5 less a month.

Hell I'd just pay the $5 and get it over with.

No wonder.

I have seen today on a couple of other boards several people saying they were told the same thing. One even said they were told it would be on the xtra package and above.

I could care less about watching TV on an ipad and could care even less that Dish is a sponsor of UT. I'm not a schill for the UT football program. All I care about is the quality of the picture on my tv where I.... watch tv.

Its just a fact that Dish pushed HD channels that are not always in HD and some channels that DirecTV offers in HD are not offered by Dish. The review that YOU posted even states this fact. Bottom line is that dish is very gimmicky and their TV packages are (modestly) cheaper but you're not paying for the same thing so its not even really comparable. And DirecTV I'm sure will come up with something even better than the hopper soon. Thats the way it goes in this business.

I'm pretty sure what happened here is that you wussed out and dumped DirecTV after 10 years because you got scared that they were not going to carry the SEC network and now you are trying to defend a bad decision.

I had Directv until 2 weeks ago when I switched to Dish. I have the same channels, all in HD and I'm saving $35 a month (and that's with a $10/month discount from Directv). I don't think the PQ is worse at all. The Hopper is all they said it would be. So getting the SEC Network is just icing on the cake for me.

Never ceases to amaze me that all these phone commercials show people watching games on a phone when they most likely have a 54 inch or larger TV

When I had dish espnu wasn't even in hd. I had one of those double receivers 2 in one box and it froze all the time. The single receiver was good though.

Now the pressure is on Directv,no links yet,but Finebuam just said that Time Warner Cable and Brighthouse has reached an agreement.

As part of a new deal with Disney that brought the SEC Network to Dish, ESPNU in HD was added. So far no trouble with the Hooper or Joeys.

Finebaum seemed pretty confident more announcements are coming. Direct and Charter are the last 2 big provides yet to reach a deal.

I've recently had the opportunity to watch DTV and Dish side by side and the HD picture quality on DTV is just better on the channels I watched.

Everything is broadcast in 720 unless you pay per view. Your TV will up convert to 1080p. The dtv receiver will to 1080i. If you have bad picture it's your tv'S upconversion algorithm.

Doesn't Dish also carry the Big 10 network, Longhorn Network and PAC 12 network???

I think that is what I read. I have Direct TV now and they don't have any of those that I know of.

Direct TV has NFL and Dish has College.

I love my VOLS the most ---> Dish wins :loco:
