No. Time will tell whether or not this was a good hire, but I think it will be Buzz Ball 2.0

Don't mean to be a pessimist, but if Martin was so good,
1. Why is he at Missouri St?
2. Why didn't one of the other 'Big' schools land him before us?

Why was Billy Donovan at Marshall? Why was Calipari at UMass? Why was Bill Self at Oral Roberts?

Not every coach starts out at a big time college. He had no head coaching experience prior to his 3 years at Mizzou State. Plenty of great coaches have started at small, unsuccessful schools, those mentioned above are just 3 of many.

Agree. Too many sheep not willing to hold this administration accountable. Those who just accept what Cheek and Hamilton are doing are like the blind being led by the blind...

Stick to football. Oh wait, you hated the Dooley hire, as well.

Renaldo Woolridge weighing in:

This may be the type of coach we've needed for a while.

You must have really hated the Bruce Pearl hire.

Yes. From what I've read he was next in line at Purdue if Painter ever left. He was also being considered a heavy favorite at Mizzou and Oklahoma.

Plus being a Gene Keady disciple is not a bad thing. Steve Lavin, Matt Painter, & Bruce Webber are all Keady-ites. Not bad company to be included in at all.

Just like Woolridge said in his tweet, this may be exactly what we need for this program.

I'll wait until after the presser. By then I'll be over the initial shock of it all and will be able to make a sound decision.

Well, I must say I prefer lighter skinned women for some reason. I think she's pretty good looking factoring in age and such.

I voted yes based solely on our NCAA situation other wise he's a shoulder shrug. I ain't complaining but I won't be doing the jig for NIT appearances.

I was in the "Wait, who?" crowd after hearing it, but after reading up on his personal background and coaching history, I like it. Young, African-American, played in the NBA (albeit very little), shows he can connect with recruits, quick turnaround at MOSU and Purdue/Keady pedigree shows he can coach, and being a cancer survivor shows he is a man of high character.

I only fear that his ascent to the big time may have been a bit premature, before he showed what he could do at MOSU, but overall I think it's a solid hire. A-.

Martin's NBA coaching career really took a nose dive with the Warriors.

You really want to go that route?
