Dobbs needs to be the starter

He could...he will probably have his degree already anyway after 2 years.

Yeah but he's not stupid...if there is a way he can attend graduate school and UT pick up the bill, then i think he stays and plays. He aint no dummy. Redshirtig him may actually make some sense if he can't produce.

I know this probably won't change anyone's opinion of who they think the starting qb should be but I will post it anyway. Before you call Dobbs a "gamer" because of his performance in the spring game lets remember he was going against the reserve defense that was patch worked together with walk ons and other players who will never see the field in a real game situation. He didn't look like a gamer last season, and by all accounts he has slipped to 3rd string in fall camp. I think Worley will start and if he under performs we will see peterman. Dobbs was the 4 th string qb last season and got some playing time because of injury, I don't see that happening again.

Also, before you call Dobbs a "Gamer", just know Heather Harrington said the same thing this morning on Sports Animal. So.....probably not accurate.

The way I look at it is this...Dobbs, hands down, looked the best in the Spring.
No he didn't. He was 3rd headed into the spring game and may have gotten back into competition for 2nd by performing well vs the 2nd D. The biggest factor in him getting a longer look this fall is the absence of Ferguson. The staff appears to have decided that the battle was between him and Worley... and the O&W game by itself would not have changed that.

Did he separate himself in practice, before that? Probably not.
Not probably... he had fallen behind to the point that it had become a two man battle with him and Nate bringing up the rear.

But, again, in a game environment, he easily looked the best. Give him the starting nod, and if he struggles a lot, then you can put Worley or Peterman in.
No. You play the guy who earned it with their total body of work. I like Dobbs. But his inaccuracy throwing the ball is not going to work. Jones wants a QB who runs just enough to keep D's honest. The job of the QB in his system is to manage the O and get the ball to the playmakers.

Any advantage Dobbs may have over the others in mobility pales in comparison to the ability to get the team into the right play then get the ball to the right guy. Dobbs running isn't going to make this team a winner. A QB that can get the ball to UT's skill players... will.

His performances weren't bad for a freshman considering the level of the defenses he was up against. Several dropped passes (some of which would have been touchdowns) . TD run called back. Ripped off some big rushing gains with the read option. He wasn't famous jamies, but he wasn't God awful.

a lot of the same folk bashing the OP were horribly wrong in the spring as well. and i'm willing to bet the great majority of them originally were on the fergy bandwagon. the others, well........

100% spot on.

If you've been following the videos via IG and Twitter, Mike Wegzyn is the best looking in what they've shown. JMO, though. Worley should and will start. Can't trust an underclassmen behind an unproven OL. Sporadic decisions = turnovers.

In the Vanderbilt game he was god awful, the rest of the year he played like a slightly below average sec qb. I don't think he is a good enough runner to off set his lack of accuracy and arm strength. Theoretically Peterman probably fits the offense the best, but can he handle the pressure in a game situation? That being said I think they go with Worley.

I'm recalling some pretty prolific drops in the Vanderbilt game too. He made some big mistakes in that game, but it's not like the rest of the team was helping much either.

Out of curiosity, I extrapolated the numbers for Dobbs and Worley out to 12 games based on their actual yards per attempt, completion percentage, passes per game, carries per game, yards per carry, TDs per game, and INTs per game. I was just interested myself, but since it came up, I'll share. I used normal rounding rules on the final numbers for those checking my math:

Dobbs's passing (27 attempts per game): 192/323 for 1853 yds, 5 TDs, 16 INTs

Worley's passing (28 attempts per game): 187/336 for 2124 yds, 17 TDs, 14 INTs

Dobbs's rushing (8 carries per game): 101 carries for 504 yds, 3 TDs

Worley's rushing (3 carries per game): 33 carries for 96 yds, 0 TDs

The pre-Orange & White game hype over Riley Ferguson hype may have been the biggest joke in the history of this football program. Despite multiple practice reports relaying that Ferguson was constantly throwing bad interceptions and making dumb decisions (e.g., running out of bounds on a "last play" scenario), Volquest and a significant minority of people on this message board kept insisting that Ferguson had surged past Dobbs and was battling Worley for the starting job. The only evidence to support such claims were secondhand rumors from anonymous sources, who - as it turned out from the Orange and White game and almost every live scrimmage preceding it - had absolutely no idea what they were talking about. Now, the same people hyping up Ferguson in the Spring are whispering that Dobbs has fallen to third in the QB battle, despite zero tangible evidence to support such a claim.

I find it ironic that you say you "play the guy who earned it with their total body of work." Has Justin Worley demonstrated anything in his first three years to inspire confidence that he'll be a winning SEC QB? Dobbs had a higher completion percentage than Worley facing a murderers row of top-15 teams as a true freshman, and his performances in the Kentucky (153.5 QB rating) and Orange & White games far exceed anything Worley has ever done.

Yes, Dobbs' mobility is a major advantage over Worley that would make our read-option offense more dynamic. But if you want a QB with the "ability to get the team into the right play," you don't think an engineering major who knows 20+ digits of pi can be trusted to manage a college spread offense?

Ultimately, the people saying we should stick with Worley are the ones advocating a QB despite his body of work. We know exactly what we have with Justin Worley, and we should know enough by now that Dobbs' skillset gives us a better chance to score points and win games. Mock him all you want, but OP is absolutely RIGHT.

Some guys are going to look back and say maybe those VN idiots were on to something with Dobbs when Worley gets pressured and throws to the dirt on 3rd and 5 for the 9th time against Oklahoma or GA or an interception that decides the game. Hate to say it but I wish Dobbs was ready, I repsect CBJ's decision and I think he made the right one, but has JWorley made some crazy transformation over the off season. We will see................:alien:
