Does Kirby simply have Heupel figured out?

We were never going to beat Georgia by stringing together 4-5 15-play drives ending in touchdowns - they're too good on defense. We had to have a few big plays in the passing game, either for touchdowns or setting up touchdowns. I don't recall us having many of those against Georgia in the four years Heupel's been here. Georgia shut that completely down in 2022 when our offense was gashing everyone else. I'm guessing we've had less than 10 and probably less than five pass completions of over 35-40 yards against Georgia in that time. Kirby appears to know exactly what to do against Heupel's offenses.
Kirby has a ton of talent he just has more. Lot of Kirby's talent is now in the NFL. The Vols are getting there. Just got to get some big time WRs that can catch the ball and some big time O-linemen. Maybe we can hire Sam Pitman after Bobby Petrino under minds Sam and gets his old job back.

Recruiting is certainly part of the process. They have better players because Kirby and his staff recruit better than we do. If Heupel expects to take the next step, he has to evaluate better, recruit better and develop better.
Kirby has also had more time to recruit better than Heupel has and took over a significantly healthier program. I have my own quarrels with the playcalling at times but Kirby doesn't have Heupel "figured out". We got our ass whooped on both lines of scrimmage and we don't really have any elite WRs right now. Maybe decent to good, but not elite. We still have some work to do.

yea, Georgia is a talent rich state. Even back in the days of my favorite Georgia coach (Ray Goff) the Dawgs had tons of talent. Kirby has good coordinators and position coaches and he studied under Saban - the Dawgs will be a tough out for a good while.

I've said in other threads that Smart is Heupel's kryptonite which is similar to Alabama owning Majors and Florida living rent free in Fulmer's head.

Georgia will always get most of their players from Georgia and Florida and fill in the chinks elsewhere.

Kirby simply has more experienced talented than we do at the present, just like he has since he became Georgia’s coach. That will change in the near future.

Kirby has had Josh’s number the past three years. This year the talent gap was much closer, but their playmakers made plays when it counted…ours simply didn’t.

We could have run the ball more in the second half. We drove it right down their throat in our last drive of the first half with a great selection of running plays. We should have relied more on that in the 2nd half

Sam Pittman would be a welcome addition to the Tennessee staff , in my opinion

I don’t get the time thing. Kirby signed a #1 class in his first full year at UGA—after going 8-5 on the field. He hasn’t been worse than fifth since then. At some point, who you are as a recruiter is established.

And I’m curious: Which UGA receivers do you think are better than UT’s guys? Which of UGA skill players from Saturday would you consider elite?

The only 3 star on that team is the long snapper. When they are playing well, they are hard to stop. Throw in very biased officiating and night time home field advantage and it gets ugly quick.

We are doing better but we have a long way to go to close the recruiting gap.

And the game wasn’t ugly by any stretch. We played UGA hard until they sealed it with 5 minutes left.

Not sure why people around here act like we got nuked. We were face to face with a team that is in the top 3 of overall talent and a coach who won back to back natties.
