As for his record -- except for this. He was 12-12 in conference play, despite having, by far, the 3rd most talent in the conference. Here's his record, according to Rivals talent differentials:
vs. more talented
2009: 0-3 - 0-2
2008: 1-1 - 1-1
2007: 0-4 - 0-2
overall: 1-8 - 1-5
vs. less talented
2009: 1-0 - 3-3
2008: 2-1 - 4-2
2007: 1-1 - 4-2
overall: 4-2 - 11-7
Not impressive, period. Nor is it impressive in light of La Tech history:
Joe Raymond Peace 1988-95 .472
Gary Crowton 1996-98 .618
Jack Bicknell III 1999-2006 .453
Derek Dooley 2007-2010 .444
FYI: .444 is last of the 4.
It's not about the player getting hurt it's about the coach not being able to control himself.I'm no expert but I think the player walked away with no injuries lol...
What has this world come to if you can't show passion and emotion without being ridiculed? It's not as if he physically harmed the player. It's football... my guess would be that the following play that lineman probably got hit a lot harder than a little slap across the facemask.
"This past season, Louisiana Tech went 4-8 against a schedule that included seven bowl teams. It scored 35 points in a 10-point loss to unbeaten Boise State, which gave up only 18 points combined to nationally ranked Oregon and TCU. It outgained nationally ranked LSU decisively and was leading with seven minutes left in the third quarter before losing by eight."
This was with LOUISIANA TECH. Who can name more than two players from there off the top of their head? He did these things with NO ONE. If you can't support him go cheer for Alabama. Nobody wants you anywhere near Neyland Stadium
I think the worst part about this thread is that some idiot thinks a 17 and 20 record at a school that is so overmatched by its opposition means he is not a good coach. Have you not looked at what this school did before he got there or even the scores of the games he lost against much better teams!? Seriously get a f_ing clue
Have no idea where you're coming from. Are we gonna be national contenders next year? Probably not, but Dooley's no idiot. This is make or break time for him too; either he's big league material or he's not. And if he has any of his dad in him, he's gonna be really good for us.We are doomed. I still love the Vols and will not root against them in any way...but we are in for pain and suffering in Football my friends. That is just a matter of fact.

Ridiculous argument. Excuses.
For that matter, then, name 2 players for Boise State. Name 2 players for Utah. Name 2 players for TCU. [Without Google.]
Fact of the matter is other coaches (GREAT coaches) can win with teams full of "NO ONE"s (your words). Yet, Dooley went 4-8. UT paid for a last name and a prayer.

TCU gets Texas's leftovers. Texas is the most rich state for fb talent. Hawkins built Boise, how is he doin at CU? Utah competes with BYU for talent, thats all. LT is in the SE with SEC teams and Texas. They are not going to have a lot of success.
