Dooley sucks (merged)

I never said I didn't understand it was a rebuilding project, because clearly it was...

However, I want to hear why he's a good coach...

He has coached at Georgia, SMU, LSU, The Miami Dolphins, Louisiana Tech, and Tennessee. He also played college ball at Virginia and became a lawyer. You on the other hand just sit on your ass and talk ****.

You cannot judge his coaching ability when he constantly is forced to compete with a huge talent, depth, and experience disadvantage. Obviously he is good enough to be on a National Championship staff and to coach at the NFL level. Hes good enough at recruiting to bring in top 15 classes.

When he has seniors that he recruited and still does not meet your standards you might have a point. Now however, you just come off as a ba$t@rd.

you can definetly judge him by the same standard as all other coaches...his win loss record, and to get to 1 game over .500 for his career, he has to win 10 games next year

which is highly unlikely and means that after 3 years we will still have a loser as a head coach

It's not looking good when people are siding with opposing teams fans because some fans have a problem with a coach who keeps blowin it. Watch out everyone you could be ignored.

fulmer / kiffin left dooley a bare cupboard. How is dooley supposed to win big with little talent?

Why do the sheep have so much optimism with this time-tested losing machine we call Derek Dooley?

He's always been a loser and continues to be such...

What data is there to point to that says 'just give him time'?

I mean I didn't expect to go to the BCS in year 1 or 2, but I don't think a winning record at least one, if not both seasons was too much to expect.

0-24 when tied or trailing at the half...What makes you think he can rally his team to beat Bama or LSU at the half down the line in his career when he can't lead a rally past UK with a WR playing QB running the same play the entire game?

The only reason this Karmic Disaster Derek Dooley even has a punchers chance next season is the fact he has the best QB we've had since Peyton...And just like Peyton, Bray could/prob will go #1 in the NFL draft....However, last Saturday's catastrophe makes me think even with a full compliment of upper classmen starters and more quality skill guys on Offense than we've had since fill in the blank Dooley still won't get it done next year.

Why would he? History shows he never has....

Besides the fact this guy is a proven loser at multiple coaching stops, lets look at the karmic disaster this idiot has proven to be....

Year 1: two most improbable losses within the same season I've ever seen...leading to a NCAA rule change and a losing season.

Year 2: Losing the best QB-WR combo we've had in a long while @ UT within a matter of weeks....

However, only a guy like Dooley could upstage his own early season bad luck with what he accomplished last Saturday in Lexington.... a WR who hadn't played QB in 4 years since high school beats us by running one play the entire game.

Whats Dooley got up his sleeve for year 3, Peyton standing on Alabama's sideline wearing a Crimson shirt?

I mean if you were hiring a limo driver, would you hire a driver who was known for always having the worst luck and getting into horrible traffic accidents...Even if the majority of the accidents wasn't the drivers fault would you want to always have him driving you around?

Derek Dooley is our limo driver and he has a bad habit of having the worst events possible occur to him when he's behind the wheel...

Why would you want this kind of guy to lead our VOLS, he has never won anywhere and has worse luck than any coach I've ever seen...Get this mf'er as far away from our program as possible.

I believe it was Napoleon who said, "Bring me the lucky generals".

While I will admit he's pretty easily not the best coach in the SEC, tosomeone who graduated from school as a lawyer and got to play football at the University of Virginia is not a loser. Good gosh man.

fulmer / kiffin left dooley a bare cupboard. How is dooley supposed to win big with little talent?

Fulmer has had as many players drafted as Auburns Tubberville in the last three years. Auburn has found a way to win.

I'm shaking my head at how pathetic this situation is.

There is no evidence to support the assertion that Dooley is a good coach.

But we're stuck with him because of the sins of fulmer and kiffin.

Our football program is in hell.

Fulmer has had as many players drafted as Auburns Tubberville in the last three years. Auburn has found a way to win.

chizik inherited two superstars: cam newton and nick fairley. Without those players, auburn is mediocre.

FYP on the first one and replace inherited with recruited. Don't short the man. He went and got them.

Bingo, Chizik went out and recruited the players he needed and the coaches he needed. Dooley is still searching for both.

ok so say we pretend dooley is a good coach and he somehow manages to have a winning record next year..like 6 wins and a bowl game, so everybody says "give him a few more years" and then we continue to have a couple of more 6 win seasons with dooley...is that what you want from ut football?
Nope. But what I would like from you is a post without an elaborate... and equally ridiculous straw man.

Never said anything CLOSE to 6 wins being enough... did I? Nope. Have said from the start he should get three years to prove he belongs. I honestly think he gets four because of his contract.

do you want a nice guy with a .500 win percentage? or do you want a coach that has the possibility to win every game but doesn't give a damn about anything but winning?
Neither. False dichotomy.
right now we got a mammas boy that cant win a game
Right now we have a guy doing a pretty good job of rebuilding UT's talent level. That's what really counts at this point of the rebuilding process. It counts alot more than a loss to UK... and more still than your whining.

and im just ready for him to hit the road...ive seen enough already and i dont really care who replaces him at this point. hes already done all the damage he can as far as what ive seen.
What are you, five? That is about as ignorant as anything you could say. Why don't you just throw us a tantrum, OK?

Tell me how he's a good coach?

I'm sure you can't...

Please, I'm waiting sheep.

I cannot "tell" you he's a good coach. I CAN tell you why he needs to stay for now... and is at least "partly" a good coach.

He is a very good... if not elite... recruiter. He held together the '10 class that makes up the largest part of the depth chart right now and added to it with less than a full staff in only two weeks. He had a losing record and put together Rivals #13 class this past NSD. He just had a really, really difficult second year and appears to be on his way to putting together another top 15 if not top 10 class.

Contrary to Fulmer and even Kiffin, Dooley's under the radar guys... have shown up and played like they really were under the radar guys. Sapp has moved ahead of several more highly regarded players from the previous regimes. Randolph certainly looks like the best safety out of GA in '11 and NOT a 3* like Rivals said. Worley is green but Rivals' use of his arm strength as a reason not to rate him better than 3* looks pretty stupid now. Dallas got on the field in a hurry and played well. IIRC, Marcus Jackson was a 3* when he committed to Dooley.

There's no telling what he might do if he could actually put a decent season in the books.

FWIW... very good recruiters... usually win. At the very least, they set someone else up to win big (see Zook, Shula).

he's not being judged a success as a Lawyer or college football player. He chose to coach, so he's going to be judged by his win/loss record...which sadly for Tennessee at this point in time he's earned a losing a record as a head coach

Wise man once said, stability for stability sake is a death sentence.

If he comes out and wins 7-8 games next year (no way that will happen) and then wins 7-8 games the next year, we are stuck with him. That is what i am afraid of, that is the whole reason why we fired Fulmer.

We will beat the Akron's, Montana's, of the world but get railed by the Bama's, LSU's of the world. That is not how its supposed to be at Tennessee, to many folks have shed to much blood, sweat, and tears over the years for us to sit back and watch that happen.

Wrong. 8 games next year may get him 2013 but 8 games in 2013 will not get him 2014. Stop thinking people suddenly have lower expectations. Hart was at FSU when they went to 3 straight BCS championship games and he knows the history and expectations of UT's football program.

However, can Dooley now and we'll get to start this entire process over again. You wanna win only 6 games in 2013-14 while a new coach suffers through attrition, young players, and trying to teach a new system?

If you aren't aware of the state of the program that was left by the two former coaches I don't know what I can tell ya.
It's easier to blame others than it is to see what's going on right under your nose. Play calling was the worst I've seen in years, clock management was like watching a comedy show, the excuses were interesting, and seeing a lawyer do his best all season was kind of fun to watch. Seems he has a golden tongue to some of you. I like the guy, he's down to earth and fun to listen to. However, he is not at the SEC level of coaching and won't be for some time.

New system? I'm sorry, but I don't think I saw the current one all season. Just sayin...

If I lived in chicago heading into winter I'd be this mad also. Who am I kidding...it doesnt matter what time of year it is.

lol. Yup, sums it up. When we start winning again they will all remain on that list as well. No room in my life for "fans" like them.

A loss to an abomination of a football team in Kentucky after a mere OT win against Vandy and "fans" tend to get a bit disgusted. Pretty understandable in my opinion.

Agree. Amazing how close we came to these types of meltdowns in the past but would barely overcome them. In 2007 we barely beat Vandy and KY and that was with a team that won the East. Some would say, even me, that we got lucky to beat both of them that year. A loss to either and I'm sure the meltdown would be similiar to what it is now, and IMO, rightly so in both instances.

A lot of the same jibberish you use to say about Kiffin, loser coach, below .500 blah blah blah. You FAIL to acknowledge the fact that due to attrition we were left with starting kids who last year were playing high school ball and expect the coach to have them ready to play in the toughest conference in the country, thats not an excuse, its a fact. It would be a big challenge for any coach to come here and turn this program around in 2 years, big name or not in the condition it was left in.

I couldn't get on due to work circumstances for most of the day today

but 17-20 is his record, and Hambone is hiring him at UT

what a letdown

I love the Vols, and I'm sick to my stomach right now

Let's look at CDD at UT:

-He interited an absolute mess from Kiffy (who left in the middle of the night) in '10 and went 6-7, barely losing at LSU 16-14.
-Got you a top 13 recruiting class
- Ran into the perfect storm in '11 with one of the most difficult schedules that I've seen in awhile. Went 5-7 with a very young team with key injuries to his two best offensive players.
- Is tracking to land another top 13 recruiting class, in spite all of the difficulties.
- Beat every team on the schedule that he should have (except KY), beat Vandy (who I said early and often that UT would lose to).

He's only been at UT for two seasons. The guy's intelligent and passionate. I don't know if UT will give him the time that he needs to win, but I think he'll win somewhere. I could be wrong. I have been twice this year already. (One was the Vandy game).:ermm:

Best of luck in '12 in every game except against us. You're due!
