Dooley sucks (merged)

Let's look at CDD at UT:

-He interited an absolute mess from Kiffy (who left in the middle of the night) in '10 and went 6-7, barely losing at LSU 16-14.
-Got you a top 13 recruiting class
- Ran into the perfect storm in '11 with one of the most difficult schedules that I've seen in awhile. Went 5-7 with a very young team with key injuries to his two best offensive players.
- Is tracking to land another top 13 recruiting class, in spite all of the difficulties.
- Beat every team on the schedule that he should have (except KY), beat Vandy (who I said early and often that UT would lose to).

He's only been at UT for two seasons. The guy's intelligent and passionate. I don't know if UT will give him the time that he needs to win, but I think he'll win somewhere. I could be wrong. I have been twice this year already. (One was the Vandy game).:ermm:

Best of luck in '12 in every game except against us. You're due!

Thanks for speaking some sense. I agree with you

he's not being judged a success as a Lawyer or college football player. He chose to coach, so he's going to be judged by his win/loss record...which sadly for Tennessee at this point in time he's earned a losing a record as a head coach

Alot of good coaches started off similiar to what Dooley's record is now. Some turned it around and some didn't. We shall see if Dooley can.

It seems you have already deemed him a failure and delight in UT losing because that means you can back up your assertions that we shouldn't have hired him. Therefore you are putting your interests over that of the program because it would pain you to see us win because someone might give Dooley some credit.

I don't care either way, I just want UT to win. You don't seem to share that thought though.

Dooley is going to get things turned around. QB and top WR hurt for most of the year does not help things. Players win the Games.

that couldn't be farther from the truth...
I want Tennessee to win everytime they take the field, and I'm still sick to my stomach that we laid down against KY, and lost a bowl apperance and a 26 game winning streak because of it...

you're absolutely right that some coaches have turned it around...I just think the last two years watching his coaching abilities play out, that he doesn't have the ability to be sucessful at Tennessee. It could be Chaney that's holding him back, given the offensive struggles this year, so if he hangs on to him this off-season, he's probably coaching his last year at Tennessee

What did Saban show in his first two years at MSU?

Here is what MSU said about him after each of his first 4 years?

1995–1997 – Beginning in 1995, Saban moderately improved MSU's fortunes, taking the Spartans to minor bowl games (all of which they lost by double-digit margins) in each of his first three seasons. From 1995 to 1997, Michigan State finished 6-5-1, 6-6, and 7-5. In comparison, MSU had finished 5–6, 6–6 and 5–6 (prior to NCAA forfeits) in 1992–1994.

1998 – On November 7, 1998, the Spartans upset the #1 ranked Ohio State 28–24 at Ohio Stadium. However, even after the upset and an early-season rout of then-highly-ranked Notre Dame the Spartans finished 6–6, including three last-minute losses featuring turnovers, defensive lapses, and special-teams misplays, and failed to earn a bowl invitation.(End)

Again, this doesn't mean that Dooley will be like Saban however I think it shows that certain situations need to allow for more than a just a snippet before you can make a decision on their coaching future.

Seems most of the Dooleyhaters would have also fired Coach K and Coach Saban from their respective schools for lackluster results.

well La Tech is Dooley's comparison to Saban's MSU...and Dooley went 17-20 there

Saban went 34-24 at MSU, so if Saban was 17-20 I don't think he gets hired at LSU...

In fact with this round of coaching openings, I'll wager that no one gets hired with a HC record at or below what Dooley's was when we hired him...

OSU- Urban Meyer....104-23
Wash State- Mike Leach.....84-43
Kansas- Charlie Weiss......35-27
North Carolina- Larry Fedora.....33-19
UCLA- Jim Mora Jr.....31-33
ASU- Todd Graham....49-29

Sort of like Fulmer destroyed UT football towards the end of his career.

Hmmmmm 2 losing seasons during your whole coaching career coming from a coach who brought a team back to relevance with dominating years with a National title at that compared to a coach who has had losing seasons for the majority of his coaching career. Great comparison.

Majors got that ball rolling. PF advanced it and rolled it back down the hill.

I enjoy how people twist facts so they can feel like they are right and the world is wrong. In the first place MSU is a far cry from La Tech in both conference and notoriety and anyone attempting to make that comparison shows their true agenda. Do I think DD is the next Saban, no, I think DD has more ethics to him than Saban.

I would like to think Freak for the feature where you can click on a posters name and read everything they have posted. Makes it real easy to identify the pot stirrers in the name of being a "fan"

I think Saban is an A hole but at the same time thats probably the reason i like him (or his personality at least). He takes no BS and accepts only success. My kinda guy. But yes you are right. You can't compare MSU and LA Tech.

My post was comparing DD and PF. Did you have something to say regarding the comparison?

Mine had more to do with the bold, thus no reference to DD.

UT found relevance before PF was the HC. He walked into a better situation than he left.

Not denying that point, but he did keep it there for a while so i believe he has proven himself.

Hey, if anyone had the forsight to see where UT would be today, they would have kept Fulmer. But you know what? They didn't. Get over it, move on. This is the hand that is dealt. The crap hole UT is in now, doesn't negate the crap hole Fulmer had let the program fall in to.

Saban is an enigma too me. I don't see it. I was never that impressed with his earlier LSU teams. In fact I'll never forget Sanders burning his DBs. (Saban's forte) Then you had, oddly, Chavis, who couldn't figure out how to stop a back up QB from running QB draws in the SEC champ game. And suddenly it was as if Saban's persona was sprinkled with fairy dust. He absolutely sucked it up in the NFL, comes back and suddenly he can wave his wand and get any recruit he wants. I'm just amazed that kids buy his schtict. Particularly with his reputation of running off kids who don't live up to the star rankings.
