Dooley sucks (merged)

So sick of this myopic viewpoint. It's as bad as "If you don't like America, get the Hell out!". It's a stupid, one sided argument that deals only in absolutes. "If you don't like the cherry on your sundae, go eat a bagel!"

Not a stupid argument. Its saying that if you are a vols fan, your only choice is to hope that Dooley does well.

Complaining and wailing in negativism all day is childish. In fact, it is the main reason babies cry: to gain pity and attention.

Hope Dooley does well guys! Good luck next year, and see you in TS.

Has officially made UT Football completely irrelevant. We have the worst coaching staff in the SEC. This has got to be a nightmare. When am I going to wake up??

Go away....you don't need to start your own thread to add this venom....stitch to an existing thread....this is just trash.

:hi:Wake up now. this is what we have. Its not my nor your choice. however I think this could work great if Dooly get good asst'. I could spit fire all the way to cal. but that won't help here. He might end up a great coach and here at TN.:good!:

I couldn't get on due to work circumstances for most of the day today

but 17-20 is his record, and Hambone is hiring him at UT

what a letdown

I love the Vols, and I'm sick to my stomach right now

DUDE......put a sock in it. We just got freaking screwed over by a spoon fed piece of s*it. Now we got a good ol southern boy in Knoxville. We as fans have to at least give this guy a few years. If anyone expects DD to come in here and dominate in recruiting in 2 weeks, your kidding yourself. Our program has been set back a few years b/c of an arrogant ungrateful jackass, and now we must be proud to be a Vol and give OUR COACH the oppertunity to succeed. All coaches work their way up except Kiffin that is. This guy deserves a shot as well! GO BIG ORANGE.:yahoo:

why do I keep hearing he built something at la tech, the 3 years before he arrived they were 6-6, 7-4, 3-10... upon his arrival they went 5-7, 8-5, 4-8 so in a 3 year span he only won 1 game more. So if he would have lost 1 more game last year would they had fired him like the last coach?

From a Tech Alum,

when there saying built they are meaning things like:

astro turf on the football field
New weight room
Jumbo tron at football field.
National TV exposure on TV 3 times in 2009
One strike policy (unlike UT)
Alumini Football support association.

These are things a small programm, like Tech, didnt have until Dooley. UT has that and much more. He will be able to focus on football instead of the adminstrative side.

I don't know about the hire but several coaches and coordinators thought highly of the guy. Hard to compare apples to oranges also; the guy was at a program that didn't have the money, tradition, or prestige to compete with major programs but still manages to give Boise State and LSU fits this past season. This may blow up in our faces but I plan to give him an opportunity to prove himself with the resources to assemble a staff and recruit enough to level the playing field.

He wasn't my first choice, in fact I had no idea who he even was, but he's one of us now, so I'll support him.

I understand your point that 17-20 isn't a winning record, but neither was 5-15 when our last coach was hired. One other point we need to take into consideration when talking records here. The University of Tennessee only has a record of 21-16 for the last three years. Yes this is a winning record, but barely. He went 17-20 at La. Tech (a team where he was lucky if he picked up a 3 star recruit). He lost to

2009
at Auburn(we lost to them at our house)
at Navy
at Nevada
at Utah State
at Idaho
Boise State 45-35 #4 final poll
at LSU 24-16 #17 final poll
at Fresno State

2008
at Kansas
at Boise State #11 final poll
at Hawaii
at Army
at Nevada
He beat Miss St.
He beat NIU in the bowl( a team we barely beat)

2007
Hawaii #19 final poll
at California(we lost to them that year too)
at Fresno St
at Ole Miss
Boise St
at LSU National Champs
at Nevada

Great post! Also add in the fact that he was the AD of the school. Seems to be a diamond in the ruff but verdict is still out.

Did you ever think what he had to work with at La Tech??

Vince Lombardi couldn't get great seasons out of a school like that!!

If he were good, shouldn't he have been able to pull in SEC type talent that couldn't meet the academic requirements of the SEC?

Sounds like the cold weather is getting to you bro..... We'll still be here in a year or two when CDD is winning games and filling seats at Neyland.... See you when you come back...Just don't act like you were with us the whole time.

I want him to win, and the VOLs to do well
It's like MG says above
Hamilton's mucked this up

I agree with everything in your post except the Georgia thing. If Richt leaves, I believe that Dooley would jump at the chance to coach the Dawgs, if offered. He grew up in Athens, went to law school there, was his dad's shadow through his formative years. He'll be loyal to UT with any other school except UGA.

exactly
GA get's the benefit of Hamilton turning over the reins at Tennessee for him to hone his craft, while he waits for the GA jod to open up

Oh... I didn't realize hammy hired him as his replacement as AD I thought he got hired as head football coach of a program that is in the top ten in all time wins in college football well this is much better maybe we can get some new jumbo trons and upgrade the weight room some more. Hell might as well as expand the stadium some more too. So you are saying he wasn't focused on football at la tech maybe he shouldn't have been the coach if he wanted to focus on the AD job so much guess he didn't have to worry as much about getting fired since he was the AD too The three years before he got there they won16 games he won 17 in 3 years that awesome production got the last coach at la tech fired we give him a top sec coaching job and a couple mil raise

Rolando Melancon went there.

Is that not where Ahmad Paige and Lennon Creer transferred to? I can't remember.

I don't like the hire very much at all. I despise Vince Dooley. He did get some SEC talent there though.

I respectfully have to deny that feeling.

First off Richt is not going anywhere for a long time. A very long time. I believe his job is secure for the rest of his career. Dooley really cares about his perception to the public and the respect he gets for his family. He will not leave UT just too take the Ga. job unless UT fires him and that job was open.

Following in his legendary fathers footsteps would be a challenge and an additional burden he doesnt want to endure. It would be disastorous if he failed at UGA destroying some of the Dooley tradition his father built at UGA.

You make a very good point, and one that I hadn't thought of. I don't think he would ever leave like Kiffin did. I think UT will have a very good coach in Dooley, one who will make you very competitive in the toughest conference in the country.

I guess I should rephrase my original message to say that UGA would be the only job he would leave UT for, but I don't think that will happen any time soon, if ever. And only then after he had built a very successful program at UT and could be assured that he would not tarnish the Dooley name at UGA.

IMHO, I think you guys are going to be very happy with this hire 3-4 years from now. This man is very bright and knows what it takes to be successful in the SEC.

Vince Dooley's son is HC at UT.

I just threw up a little in my mouth.
