Not sure what was so rational about it. He claims this hire is better than Lane, but the only evidence he applies to support Dooley as a good coach can also be applied to Lane.

You do not want Vince as an AD. Georgia was ready to get rid of him when they did. I am afraid that DD is in over his head and we will be going through this hiring process all over again 3 years from now.

Take away the 3 payday games La Tech is forced to play every year in order to support a football team, and he's 17-11.

Dooley's record at La Tech was pretty good considering the state of the program when he arrived there. He should do well at UT.

Gary Crowton 1996-98 .618

I'm not impressed. I hope this guy is the right hire.

I support Dooley and respect the fact he was willing to take the job when so many others turned it down. But La Tech is in the same conference as Boise State, they have managed to go undefeated and play in several BCS bowl games.

I don't like exaggerating what he did at Tech. But don't forget Saban went 6-6 several times at Michigan State and then won 2 NC's at LSU and Bama. Doesnt mean Dooley wont be successful here.

Sounds like you are left with Vandy, or maybe SC. For the rest of us, this is our coach and we are behind him.

saban also took over a 5-6 mich st team that even had to forfeit those wins and turned them into a 10-2 program by year 4 I would say he left them in pretty good shape

Does anyone remember all the rumors about Gary Crowton replacing Cut as OC when he left for Ole Miss? I haven't thought about that guy in ages.

I'd be happier if they just manned up admitted a mistake and got Fulmer to come back, and i would've been in heaven if they got Cutcliffe to come back, this is a dissapointing hire for sure, theres much better coaches to hire i wouldve gone to Tenn Tech and begged Watson Brown to come up instead of Dooley. I wouldve even been happy if they went and hired a guy liuke Greg Robinson, at least when his team sucked it was in a BCS conference. Bad call by UT here, I'm sellin my season tickets.......

this sounds like what everybody was saying about chizik when they hired him. everyone was saying how he sucked at iowa state and that our great coach "lame kitten" was going to stomp him this year. well we see how that turned out.

give the guy a chance. if he sucks then he sucks. at least we will have TIME to search for a coach at a time when we are not 3 weeks out from signing day.
