Electric Vehicles

I don't care about getting rid of the tax break. However the Trump admin has floated the idea of a break for gas trucks. That will have a much greater impact but won't have the boogeyman ev attached

The nation's elite with their luxury vehicles must pay their "fair share" instead of sponging off the poor? It's cheap class politics. The tax is being sold to ignorant rubes who think anyone driving a Tesla is super wealthy. There aren't enough ev to make a difference and this is purely punitive.

The govt can do infrastructure without a miniscule, one-time $1k penalty to ev owners. Can we tax people who have no cars and use public transportation? Those busses aren't hovercraft
You can't carve out exceptions like that on tax policy if you want small government. This was removing a loophole.

EVs, even with Trump, are the fastest growing piece of market share.

There are currently 3 million plus EVs on the road now. They weigh twice as much as their ICE counterparts. It's not miniscule to bring in at least 3 billion dollars.

That 1000 dollars is equivalent to the federal taxes paid on 5434 gallons of gas. Which is going to be somewhere around 100k miles which is most life times of cars. So it's seems pretty close to a 1:1 replacement on the lost tax revenue.

You pay to ride the bus. And usually there is some separate tax that already handles paying for those systems. At least here in Atlanta there is.

In SC your vehicle property tax goes to the county which is supposed to use that money for schools. I don't live there but know that.

The property tax goes to everything…fire department, schools, library, roads, etc. And they’ve tacked on an additional road fee. I think Spartanburg repealed theirs a couple of years ago but Greenville still has it. The roads are just god awful here and living in the I-85 I-26 corridor the trucks keep all roads tore all to hell. It’s like a constant work zone 24/7/365. All the assclowns moving here doesn’t help.

Get active in your county politics.

Except nothing was carved out. This is the oil company captured gop pushing to ensure the fed govt class back additional taxes. Meanwhile they aren't pushing to spend the additional (or even existing) revenue on infrastructure. Cut it for all as long as you're punishing labor with income taxes

Interesting how I was called out by conservatives for advocating for fewer govt tax. The had tax had always been a ridiculous expense for the payer but a great fund for the collectors

I think at least a couple of conservatives agreed with you per lower taxes and better returns. I seem to recall it was mainly a conversation about fair share and such.

As a matter of fact, I seem to recall that it was a post about just how terribly we're taxed that triggered you into basically calling someone stupid.

States should be 100% responsible for all of the roads within their boundaries and nobody should be paying federal hwy/fuel taxes. It's absurd that residents of any state send money to DC through fuel taxes only to beg for and agree to federal strings for it to be sent back. FL is getting almost $14 billion in federal funds for roads this year, I'd bet more than half will be spent on things other than maintenance/repair or building new bridges/roads.

And as mentioned, we basically have the infrastructure of a 3rd world country... er... developing nation.

I simply called you out for showing off really bad math x2 and reading comprehension. You had a really bad morning with those

You don't trust me with stuff like that (that word does though). I've got thousands of posts on here where I'm consistent on taxes and how little is actually required for adherence to the constitution. I don't need to attach a label like conservative because my stance is consistent. If someone is paying less taxes then I say good for them. I don't go tattle to the Feds so they'll penalize them too.

I did. (I also have a long history here of pretty decent math and reading comprehension.) The personal attack seemed a bit heavy handed, considering the light hearted post it responded to, thus the indication that you were for some reason getting a bit triggered. (With that said, if you misconstrued the post, I apologize for offending you. It was not the intention.)

But nonetheless, your framing of this being about "lower" taxes seems a bit disingenuous, considering that the most active conservatives in the conversation were agreeing with you about over-taxation and the need for returns on what we do pay. I took the conversation to be one where you were asking why, as an EV driver, you should be asked to pay infrastructure taxes similar to drivers of petro-powered vehicles.

At the end of the day, this legislation is closing a loophole in tax code to make EV drivers pay similar existing taxes.

We’re starting to see roundabouts becoming more popular.

"Closing a loophole" is simply increasing tax revenue paid to the govt. Tomato/tomato

The goal of a conservative should be to lower everyone's taxes not to punish your neighbor. In the Trump tax thread it sure seemed like lots were on his side. Guess that's what I get by being part of the ultra wealthy liberal elite driving my luxury vehicle (all terms thrown at me by repubs). I probably deserve it for owning a $57k truck that drives me around

Seems that we were simply explaining that it's merely closing a loophole, you're not being targeted and you're only being asked to pay similarly to everyone else. When you ask something akin to, "Why should I have to...?" and the answer from those already having to is, "Well, welcome to the club, hombre." That doesn't mean we're ecstatic about the club and its benefits.

With that said, at the risk of being up in your feelz again, welcome to the club.

If done right, roundabouts are much better than stop signs.

With traffic becoming an overwhelming issue some intersections with 2 way stops were becoming nightmares. Most people still don’t know how to navigate a 4 way stop though. I can’t stand people that act like they’re doing me a favor motioning for me to go when it’s their turn.

PJ should take a look at a trucking companies fuel taxes, that will pucker your azz. Paying fuel taxes to states you haven't even operated in is the rip off.
As a railroader, I vote for trucking companies to pay for the cost of interstates and their maintenance just as the RR's pay fuel taxes and maintain our ROW. 😀

The goal should be to tax everyone less. Getting upset at your neighbor and calling the Feds isn't helping that goal. They have plenty of money and simply waste the excess. This is simply about owning the ev driving libs. It's lowest common denominator stuff used to make the base drool. The direct quotes I posted demonstrate that very well

Who here got mad and called the feds?

We've agreed that taxes need to be lowered. We've agreed that that is our preference.

Also, welcome to the club. We can all hope taxes go away. **** in your own hand while we hope. Not mine.
