Evaluating Martin's recruiting

Who ever said we didn't want him?
Was pretty much his decision.

CCM never met with Ware. He granted him out of his letter. Offered Josh Richardson immediately. Ware said that he will open up his recruitment and TN will still be #1 on his list. CCM said that Pearl's staff used up all the official visits, but CCM still could have went to Ware's games. Ware could take an unofficial visit to TN, but was never set up. CCM basically showed no interest after Richardson signed and a lot of other big named coaches did, so Ware went else where.

That is not how I remember it. Not saying you're incorrect. I just don't remember it that way.

I still don't get what you're getting at with Ware. I've watched him play he's the same exact player as Richardson. He comes off the bench and is a defensive stopper on a defensive driven team.

Both are good players. I think Ware is a better shooter and ball handlers. I'd like to have had Ware eating up Moore's ad McBee's minutes this past year and backing up Golden at the point. Considering who CCM brought in his first year, I think it was a mistake at the time not recruiting Ware. Looking back though, if we take Ware maybe we don't have a scholly for Stokes.

Yeah it's a give and take. I'm happy JRich is here tho. If you would have asked me this 2 years ago I would have said Ware also. I think JRich will continue to progress. I think his shot is getting considerably better.

What mess was Ware in?

You don't recall the issues he had with UCF shortly after his decommittment from Tennessee? He had definitely surrounded himself with some shady people, and with the hot water Tennessee was in it was a wise decision to not put themselves even near a possible violation.

I would rather see him get 5 - 5 star players in 1 season -- like the guy in Lexington always does

he should have hired Robert Smith from Simeon, as an assistant --- just so Jabbari Parker would come to UT --- guy recruits all over Chicago -- while Martin gets Wes Washpun

Because that's exactly what every coach in America was thinking hire him

You don't really think you're the first person to come up with this grand idea do ya? Robert isn't going anywhere unless it's a HC job, he was lobbying for the Illinois job.

Nope don't remember. I knew that he committed then decommitted from UCF. Then signed with UL. I looked at his stats a few times last year, but really after we knew that the marriage was over, then he basically went off my radar and I didn't keep up with him that much.

Maybe my interpretation is just different. My take on that article is that Ware wanted to be able to go to another school. The "Tennessee is my #1 choice" is BS. The article also said Martin contacted ware, not the other way around. The article also says Martin wants guys who want to be here. To me, that implies that Ware did not want to be here.

Martin never met with Ware. There are many other links out there. Martin called but never met. CCM released Ware, signed Richardson, never put any more effort in signing Ware.

Right. Not disagreeing with that.

Ware wanted out. Martin released him saying he didn't want players who don't want to be here.

Chris Jones wanted out of his LOI also. CCM put on the full court press to keep him. Jones actually decided to with UT, but failed to qualify. The same effort was not give to Ware.

Ok. I didn't interpret that article or others that way. You seem to believe the "Tennessee is my #1 choice" comment by ware. I trust more in the "I want players who want to be here" comment by Martin.

As for Jones, I think both parties realized quickly that he was going juco regardless so it didn't matter.

Martin didn't put the full court presss on Jones to keep him. If that was the case and jones stuck with his LOI, Martin would probably have pursued the #1 juco player in the country the past two years.
