Chris Jones wanted out of his LOI also. CCM put on the full court press to keep him. Jones actually decided to with UT, but failed to qualify. The same effort was not give to Ware.
Ok. I didn't interpret that article or others that way. You seem to believe the "Tennessee is my #1 choice" comment by ware. I trust more in the "I want players who want to be here" comment by Martin.
As for Jones, I think both parties realized quickly that he was going juco regardless so it didn't matter.
Martin didn't put the full court presss on Jones to keep him. If that was the case and jones stuck with his LOI, Martin would probably have pursued the #1 juco player in the country the past two years.
Ware still wanted to come to UT. It's been explained that Martin did not want him here. BTO has explained and I did find links that Ware had some shady people that he was hanging around. So, the fact still remains that Ware wanted to come to UT and CCM did not want him here, so he didn't recruit him after becoming coach at UT.
CCM did still want Jones. Jones did not stick with his LOI because he did not qualify. So he went to JC. Martin did say that he would continue to recruit Jones, but Jones decided to go a different route. I'm sure Forbes probably had something to do with that. Also, he was very good friends with Ware. UL wanted him, so he had a much better offer than UT.
Martin on the release of Jones:
Weve done everything we can to encourage Chris to be successful in high school, said Martin, who met with Jones and Johnson earlier this month in Memphis. We wish him the best, and we would love to have him here if he gets it down the stretch.
Well continue to recruit Chris if he ends up in the junior college ranks.
Still not with you. If I recall, ware asked for his release, then Martin said he wanted to meet with him first. (From article you linked earlier) Then Martin releases him.
I don't see how you get that ware wanted to be here from that. He made some comment about UT being #1 but that is bs in my book. Also, seems like Martin didn't have any visits left with Ware because they'd been used by pearl.
I was on Volquest at the time all this went down and I never got the impression that Ware wanted to be here after pearl was let go.
There are many articals out on the net. Google can be your friend. Try finding things on your own. Below are direct comments from Ware. That's the most reliable source you can have. If you can't take his word, then believe what you want.
On March 23, Ware posted on his Twitter account that he was a VFL - Vol For Life and told the News Sentinel there was more to his decision to play at UT than just basketball.
"As long as they hire a good coach I can trust, I'll want to be at Tennessee,'' Ware said at the time.
Most recently, Ware sent the following text message to the News Sentinel on Tuesday:
At this point I do want out because I've still yet to be contacted by (Vols athletic director) Mike Hamilton....I feel like I'm being forced to still be signed to Tennessee....I'm trying to do what's best for me and I know nothing about (Martin)...I been faithfully a Volunteer for two going on three years now.''
Miller and Yemi are leftovers from Pearl's tenure. But by and large you're right we have 4 players that are legit on any one's roster, several others that are legit role players could be on many teams roster, a couple coming in that should help immediately, and a couple of projects. Biggest needs are a true center and a legit point guard. To me I am needing a PG I recruit a true point guard not a combo guard or a two guard that many thinks might be turned into a PG, give me a point guard. If you cannot get a center here in the states the comb the rest of the world and get one but get us a center preferably a 7 footer (+), please.
So let's look at 3 recruiting classes without thinking about what he inherited etc. etc. etc. Let's pretend the '13 class plays to their rankings and Stokes sticks around.
PG Thompson
SG Hubbs
SF Richardson
PF Davis
C Stokes
6th man- Armani Moore
Bench: Mackanjuela, Chevious, Reese, Edwards, Landry
To me the Bench above are never going to be much of contributors. I just don't see really any talent there.
That's a really bad team above. Like 4-14, 5-13 in league play bad.
So his '14 class is going to have multiple immediate impact players even if the '13 class pans out. He's not in a very good spot.

So you think they would only win 4 or 5 games in SEC play? If Thompson, Hubbs, and Davis are as good as they are ranked? Puff puff pass please... :loco:

That's 2 five stars and 4 three stars, and that's not including any incoming freshman, but we'll go with that. That's an average rating of 3.67 for our rotation guys you list. In comparison, this year that would rate 5th in the SEC for talent, yet you have them competiting for last place basically.
Off the top of your head, no cheating, how many other SEC teams have 2 five stars in their lineup?
Thompson and Davis are not ranked highly at all. I don't know where this idea came from. We have 4 recruits and 1 of them is a 5 star and we are still not even ranked in the top 30. If those 2 play to their ranking they aren't going to be great players.
A 3 star ranking is not a positive for this school. Jarnell Stokes was a 5 star but he is not a 5 star talent. So there is no mystery about stokes. He isn't ever going to be a good offensive player. He's an average defender and a very good rebounder. A 5 star every 2 years and a bunch of 3 stars is not going to work out.

Davis and Thompson are right on the cusp of top 150, infact Thompson may very well be when the new rankings come out.
We aren't ranked in the top 30?
