Facts are facts - Kiffin is running off the talent

Coker never seemed to produce against the good teams but again he never really had much of an opportunity. His catches against UGA and UF and the kick return against Bama were all good plays.

Banks was a monster at WR though.

Apparently his member was a talking monster too... Just as ksusha.

The fact that you two would arguing over who was the most talented player at UT this decade, Coker or Banks, shows what an absolute, total disgrace of a program Fulmer was running here.

So you're saying Fulmer left the cupboard bare?

Berry is without a doubt the most talented player to pass through Knoxville this decade.

On pure, raw talent alone, it is my honest opinion that Coker is tops in both.

There's nothing to objectively prove it... just my subjective opinion based on his flashes of brilliance before getting canned. He was a threat on every play from any point on the field. I believe he still holds the UT record for the longest run from scrimmage.

Flashes of brilliance? :eek:lol: Please tell me ONE good game that Creer played in his two year career against top level competition.

Berry is OBVIOUSLY the most talented player to pass through Knoxville this decade. Rather than point out the obvious answer, I was laughing at the insinuation that Creer was the most talented player this decade, and pointing out that if you could even mention Creer or Banks in this discussion then it's a real condemnation of the previous coaching staff.

Will you have the same stance when the coveted BB hits the field this fall? Which doesn't really matter, seeing that Berry will be a top draft pick next year.

Yes. That would still be my stance. I truly hope that I end up having to eat crow on this one. Berry is an absolute freak. He is the best safety that I have ever seen in the college game at ANY school. While I think Bryce Brown looks fantastic on film, I don't expect him to be as special at the running back position as Berry is at the safety position.

I agree, you can't compare a seasoned, experienced player like Berry to a LOI player. In fact BB may only play one down and get hurt ending his career that fast. I'm not wishing that on the kid, but it can happen, one freak play or injury and your done.

I like Berry and I also think he will be an impact player in the next level.

Coker was the most talented player to pass through UT this decade...

C'mon man, just off the top of my head I'd put these guys ahead of Coker:

Berry
Justin Harrell
Robert Meachem
Jason Witten
John Henderson
Albert Haynesworth
Donte Stallworth
Travis Henry
Kevin Burnett
Kelly Washington

and honestly these probably should be too

Jason Allen
Jonathan Wade
Gibril Wilson
Jabari Greer

Frankly I'm sure there's several others. Look, Coker had a nice skill set but he couldn't beat out his competition here and he's now at Hampton where he averaged a whole 4.3ypc and rushed for one (1) touchdown...against NC A&T. Biggest game? 124 yards against...Howard.

Even his vaunted speed is overrated. His 100 meter state title was a 10.85. Wade ran a 10.21 at the '02 LA state championships. He also got ran down by FL Riley Cooper on a KOR in '07.

And, the thing is, you actually might be understating it.

Berry might be one of the greatest Vols of all-time by the time he finishes up in Knoxville.

Might be? :eek:hmy: He already holds an SEC record and with 15 more INT yards he will have an NCAA record. I don't expect him to stay for his 4th year, but if he does, he will be #1 in my book. Heck, even if he leaves after 3 years, he will easily be top 3 in mind. I can't remember any DB ever dominating the game like he does. Maybe a RB or a QB or a LB on defense, but not a DB...

If the players don't enjoy playing for UT and CLK, all power to them they can leave. We are better off without them. I did wish Morley would have straightened up, but anyways more scholarships open up with all of the departures.

Well seeing as how nobody mentioned Creer...

Nobody was saying Banks was the most talented player to come through here. I was saying he's probably the most talented guy to get kicked off in the past decade.

When Berry is done at UT, I don't even know if we'll need to qualify his 'best at UT status' with a time frame.

I wish he could have played with some of the UT greats of the past or that we had him a few more years, but he'll be remembered at UT as one of the all-time greats--and achieving that on teams that didn't win championships is extraordinary.

Coker was among the best kicked off / couldn't cut it, but compared to those who did, he slips down the list. I liked him better than Banks, but we really didn't get to see enough of Coker in the games to have as much to compare. Based on game film alone, he was grossly under-utilized.

And, I'm totally guessing at this, but I suspect Coker wouldn't have worked hard enough to earn his right to play for Tennessee in the CLK era, so CPF may have already been giving him the BOD.

In many ways one could argue that Banks departure was the beginning of the end. He was the most elite, versatile athlete to leave to program recently. I don't think we ever saw everything he was capable of.

Banks was a monster at WR though.

Justin as always on your game,If he could only have quit smoking the weed until after he was Drafted and summer camp he could have been a monster, But Berry is our only monster and yes our cupbards are very empty.
And getting good talent takes the right kind of eye.
Which we now have a dozen of the best talent finding eyes in the NATION, so take your soft Krispy Kreme self down to Weigles and get you some milk to eat with those doughnuts!!!!!!!

I think Fulmer fell prey to the shotgun approach to recruiting. In the end (the last 3 or 4 years) we stopped recruiting needs and just started filling the spots with athletes that had no natural position just to make the recruiting numbers look better. Berry is a BIG exception to the rule.

Of course there was plenty of bad luck that contributed without a doubt. I remember thinking that Swatelle and Langley would certainly contribute by now.

We are left with a pretty big talent deficit now. People are naturally going to place that on Fulmer's shoulders.

With a coaching change, transfers occur, since some players don't like the new system, new requirements, new workout rules, new philosophy, etc. It's no big deal---Kiffin will bring in tons of top talent in the next few years.

I'll take the easy answer and say Eric Berry. He is the highest rated CB EVER on Rivals and has done nothing but set records in college. There was an article on ESPN a couple of weeks ago about how Berry is better at his position than any other player in CFB is at their's, and it isn't even close...:good!:
Yeah. You're right about Berry. He's better than the rest by a fairly wide margin.

I was thinking primarily about offensive players but cast the net too broadly.

IMO, Coker was athletically like Berry but without the intelligence, character, work ethic, etc that makes Berry exceptional.

Sorry I don't. Here is how I see the situation. Fulmer was a pushover for years. It's no different then raising brats all your life and then all of the sudden you want to lay down discipline to those kids. Well most will cry and pout and run away and some will eventualy conform to the new rules.

Players are leaving because their gravy train is gone.

Coleman's=the next Brent Shaefer. Will fall to the way side due to his pride.

Except that Schaeffer was forced off campus for smashing someone over the head with a baseball bat, and BJ Coleman is just being a (female dog explicative here). Not for leaving, for which I have no problem with him doing, but for trying to talk himself up to be the next Peyton Manning.
