Fantasy Baseball Questions

Here are examples of some recent trades a team made (bolded part is from the same team)

Alcides Escobar and next years 17th rounder
for
Didi Gregorius and next years 8th rounder

Bobby Parnell and next years 18th rounder
for
next years 4th round pick

Jacoby Ellsbury and a 16th
for
Kevin Gregg and a 2nd

Trades are posted on the message board and we have 2 days to voice protests before they are approved.

Ok they're kinda ridiculous with the Ellsbury trade leading the way.

There should be a voting system to overturn trades.

The Ellsbury one was the most recent and the only one I protested. If 4 teams file a protest then the trade is vetoed...the problem to me is that the same team keeps making the deals that aren't that awful when they stand alone so no one protests, but now he has a million picks in the first half of next years draft. I think he managed to grab an extra 5 picks in the first 8 rounds. He keeps making the deals with different teams who think they are getting a decent player for a draft pick, but its like I'm the only one who sees how easy he is going to dominate the draft next year haha

I disagree with this.

And I also think trading draft picks is pretty weird.

I like it in theory, if you're making a stretch run and need to sacrifice a pick in next years draft to get a guy to put you over the top it works. For example, last year I traded my 2nd and 4th around the All-Star break for Justin Upton. He wasn't great, but it got me a title. The problem is now we are seeing teams selling out for high picks next year and giving up on this season already.

Curious as to why you made zero comments until I started asking questions and giving my opinion?

Original post was 4 days ago. Discussion began ~noon today (with your comment). I replied at 3:56. Point of my post was that it would be nice to think that leagues were not filled with collusion, people could manage their teams the way they would like, thus making the need for trade veto/review obsolete.

Was also commenting that I am not nearly good enough at projecting value for next year's draft to fiddle with trading draft picks.

Don't flatter yourself, man. "Until you started asking questions and giving your opinion" was literally... when the discussion started.

I just thought it was funny. I'm am flattered none.

I disagreed with the need for a veto/review system. It would be nice if there was not a need.

Me trading draft picks would be a disaster.

My post was not meant to be funny, but hey. Natural laugh-getter righchere

I agree that I hate trade review, but unfortunately we have a few stooges in our league so its been used in the past a few times....

I see what you're saying 005 about projecting draft value and I'm far from an expert, but I'm pretty confident if you gave me 3 keepers and 10 of the first 120 picks in a draft I would finish pretty high in the league.

Certainly, yes. I'd just be too chicken to pull the trigger on a trade with a ton of players and picks.

Yea the Upton trade was my biggest to date. Whenever I pull a smaller deal I always try to at least upgrade a round or two here and there.....honestly tho, I think the people in our league look at it more as a novelty more than anything, they just wanna trade picks because they can type of thing.

My catchers currently are C. Santana and S. Perez. Rizzo as 1B.

Dude in big need of a catcher is offering me Shields/Hundley for C. Santana.

Do I:

1. take it?
2. see how desperate he is and go for Shields/struggling Hamels and use Salvador exclusively. Or Shields/Goldschmidt.
3. Just hold onto Santana.

James Shields? If so, I would accept that trade.

If Perez keeps batting 4th or 5th the drop off between him and Santana at the end of the year will more than be made up by the pitching stats Shields provides.

I think so. And I can always gamble on FAs or someone like Grandal when he returns.

I'm gonna try for Hamels/Shields because I dunno if I would want Hundley as a backup C now or just cross that bridge if I come to it.

I'd drop Hundley as soon as the trade went through.

I countered with Detwiler/Santana for Shields/Hamels. Gonna see how badly he wants that catcher upgrade.

Lucroy available? Depending how deep your league is I'm guess he is. He'll start hitting soon. Too good not to.

There are a whole lot of good catchers available. Or serviceable, at least. Guys that slumped early that I trust to hit eventually, like Lucroy, Montero.

My SP will be just oh so silly if he for some reason accepts that.

Already have Stras, Harvey, Wainwright, Lynn, Dempster.
