That being said, I think public sector pensions should go away. Freeze everyone that has one where they are and give everybody else a 10% raise and the number to Fidelity and their 401k branch. I am tired of supporting a 30 year old retiree for the rest of his life with COLA raises when mine was legally stolen due to no fault of my own.... and I too had earned every f'n dime that was taken.

Corporate bankruptcy sucks. We had a 60% FAE pension. We would have received 60% of our final average earnings with the pension. In bankruptcy, it was sent to the PBGC, a quasi government 'insurance' program that paid pennies on the dollar. While the particular PBGC plan we fell under is in not quite the same danger as other PBGC plans, it is still at risk of government manipulation or flat out insolvency. From a personal standpoint, I fared better off than a lot of my compadres, but still nowhere near where I would have been. But on the upside, the mandatory retirement age was raised so I have that going for me. (That is only partially sarcastic, because I love my job)

That's what I thought. I got screwed on my pension because they stopped accruing time towards it which was totally legal and after I retired the company abandoned the pension healthcare system which forced me onto the ACA exchange. So to tell the truth they didn't take your pension away, you just didn't get as much as you thought you were going to get. Sorry, but life sucks and a pension guaranteed by the government PBGC board isn't all that bad.

According to the census only 38% of AA children live with both their parents. Just because it’s uncomfortable doesn’t make it racist.

Congress got paid off years ago to alter the pension and BENEFIT laws. One example. I have a friend who retire from IBM at 47, 33 years ago. In addition to his buy out he was promised health care coverage for life. 15 years ago statute changes permitted IBM to cut the health care benefit and also start charging iirc 40% of the premium for that reduced coverage
