Yeah...so home schooled kids taught 100% by parents without teaching certificates, student teacher indentured service time, mostly not college educated in my personal experience....perform 10% roughly BETTER than public school HS grad kids including the college bound. Yep.
Public school was never considered an option for my kids, or now for my 3 nephews we are raising ...so we will have 4 kids in Christian School and 1 in college this fall. Son graduated with a degreè in clinical psychology in 2 years and works at the hospital in charlotte psych ward while working on his masters online. Had basically an associates degree worth of credits when he graduated HS top in his class. 14yo daughter has only made a couple Bs ever but i dont know that she will be valedictorian like her brother...and never put an pressure on her to try. She is self motivated though...used her own money to buy an Algebra book to study and learn from because she made an 89 on her last pre algebra exam in 7th grade and it truly hurt her feelings. We put zero pressure on our kids regarding school...expectations for respect, behavior, and effort were learned at home before they ever went to school. Both could read and write when they started kindergarten...just as i could as a child...bc we cared enough to teach them. While I admit that genetically they were blessed with "computers" than might run a little faster than the average kid....I strongly believe that just as important if not more is the constant encouragement of curiosity, gaining knowledge, discussing and debating ideas, learning things TOGETHER with them...we come from very humble beginnings. While we never have money for new cars/trucks or a bigger house...we ALWAYS have money to go to a museum, buy new books, attend classes and camps or workshops...you guys get the picture. We taught our kids from birth that it wasnt on a ball field or a stage performing....that greatness, our praise, and their opportunities to SHINE would come from learning things, academic successes such as spelling bees*, beta club, sword drills, church mission work etc.
WE have taught and continue to teach now to 5 kids instead of 3 that their road to success in life will come from their knowledge, vocations, service through church for God etc...you simply arent going to get that in public school. I went to public school and so did my wife. About 80% of our time and energy went to the opposite sex, weed and alcohol partying, and i cared far more about football than i ever did about class. 95% of what i knew when I dropped out of HS after football season 11th grade and went to work was knowledge i had at 13 in 8th grade. Learned nothing in HS but how to get drunk, high, and laid. That went for all the football/basketball team pretty much.. as well as the cheerleaders and all those that hung around us probably 70 or 80 kids. Nobody cared about grades or learning. I had exactly 1 HS teacher that gave a sheit about whether i learned anything at all or even attended class. He was a brilliant black man in his 50s who taught AP world history and US history. Learned more in his classes than the rest of public HS combined. My wife is 5 years younger than me and attended a different public HS in the same city and had very similar experiences with the majority of kids there. Kids dont want to be there in many cases...most teachers are inept and do not really want to be there either....and most don't care about the subject or teenagers they are teaching anyway. Many teachers never went to school for the subjects they now teach...have terrible attitudes toward students (well deserved in many cases) and at best are teaching to the exact material that will be on the end of grade standardized tests because that is all school and admin cares about. Tests.
There are some GREAT teachers out there. Most who are very good at actually challenging students and inspiring curiosity, effort, and competition are quickly gobbled up by Christian/private schools because the teachers know that even if the pay still isnt great....the kids they have to teach are far, far more likely to have PARENTS who give a damn that are actually involved in their kids lives and have nurtured their curiosity and intellect since they were babies. You know....real parents. That actually put their kids first. That actually come to parent teacher conferences, help with homework and projects, volunteer at the school and like my wife help out on field trips, school trips, birthday parties etc...why would ANY teacher worth a damn ever want to go teach at a public school where drunk and high kids beat up teachers and eachother...refuse to listen, be quiet, or learn, have all the DOE garbage and bullcrap curriculums and lesson plans with such great ideas as Common Core Math (,check youtube...youll be dumbfounded) the woke and gay agenda and identity politics bullcrap...affirmative action hiring practices and teacher unions making terrible teachers unable to be fired....why would any good teacher ever choose to be part of that when they can teach at a private/Christian school where kids get kicked out if they do not behave, and crap teachers get fired if they cannot teach?
I do not believe public school systems should even EXIST in their current form. Abolish the DOE, crap public school mandates, and all the bureaucracy and red tape. Charter schools and vouchers tied to each individual student are the only way i see to let free market economics and competition improve our schools. If we are gonna mandate public education at all....it should be a competitive school environment for both teachers and schools. The current model will get worse and worse because neither parents nor many teachers actually give a damn enough to fight for change.
