Florida granting teaching licenses to military + spouses.

Plus plenty of opportunities for additional money. Some systems pay 10-15k for bus drivers. You can make a lot doing drivers Ed. You can coach. There’s summer school. You have weekends, evenings, and summers to earn money

Exactly. If you can teach public school, you can pour a Jack and Coke two evenings a week.

Yeah City of Bristol got just short of 2 1/2 months for summer. Two weeks for Fall/ Spring Break and two weeks for Christmas. Plus all the assorted in service days and MLK …..etc.
The random teacher planning days always grind my gears. Either you are spending the summer planning or you're doing it during the school year. Can't claim both.

I know in my business life we routinely shut operations down during the year to better plan how we do things. We always do it, except I mean we never do it.

Today is my daughter’s first day of Kindergarten. They went from 8-9 and she doesn’t go back until Thursday. 🤷‍♂️

We will see. At least it is out of the box thinking and reduces some of the barriers to entry for the position. Some very highly intelligent and successful people that don’t hold a bachelor’s degree.
Sure there are, but they never wanted to be a teacher badly enough to work to meet the requirements.

And for 8 1/2 months of work.
Ignorant.

Teachers average 200 work days, other professions average 230. So if you say teachers work 8 1/2 months, you are also saying most everyone else works 10 months.

So maybe one just retired 8 months ago. Has realized he is bored in retirement and would be happy to give back to his community by being a teacher. So now he can go for it and have one less meaningless hoop to jump through.

Victory for everyone involved.

What total nonsense. You guys haven't the slightest clue.
That's like saying a coach does all of his planning in the offseason, so he has no need to plan during the season. RIDICULOUS

Yes. That was LITERALLY my point was that teachers got about an extra month and a half. I also posted the dates and time off for my child’s school district as proof of my argument. Thank you for making it for me.

Hmmm. Maybe the problem isn’t with these peoples work ethic…,,but with the requirements themselves?
Nope. It wasn't a problem with either. The issue was that they really didn't want to be a teacher.

I freely admit that there will be one success for every five failures. That's an unacceptable ratio.

Yes and after watching some of the process that’s considered to be necessary to perform the position…..I wouldn’t want to either. So this bill is cutting through some of the annoying red tape and providing a larger pool of candidates. I think the basic issue is that you…..and many of your ilk have a misguided/overinflated idea of what it takes to do your job.

That's not what you were saying at all. You were saying it as a comparison to everyone else presumably working 12 months.

The conversation was that teachers make 47k which would translate to 66k. That's total BS.
The real days worked ration would result in 47k = 54k.

I pointed out how many days the teachers in my child’s district work. I specifically pointed out what they are off for and added it up. I also never threw out a dollar figure, that was another poster. Try again.

I don't know, maybe you're right for once.

Maybe we can also lower the standards for students and get greater success.

I'm obviously right. It's not even a debatable question. Lowering the standard will obviously increase the pool of talented qualified candidates. What about that could you possible disagree with?

So 5 jobs will be filled that would have went empty. One of them will do a great job and the other 4 will not be rehired?

I'm not seeing the problem.
