Folks lets face it, Hart just sealed our 15 year irrelevance

Are the rumors true that Mal Moore at Alabama is retiring and Hart is the favorite to replace Moore? Does anyone really care at this point?

Fedora has a demonstrated ability to do more with less. So does Patterson.

Maybe I just don't know enough about Fedora. What top 25 teams has Fedora beaten?

My quote wasn't in response to anyone bringing up Patterson, so I don't know why you referenced him in your reply. I would be totally happy with Patterson. But I don't think Hart is competent enough to make him a serious offer.

Stick a fork in it we are done for a long long time as a program. We may have to shut down the university over this one. I don't really think we have any chance of getting a coach who is worth 50 cents now. At least not one that can recruit to help us to get us back. This is going to be worse than when kiffin left. Go Vols!!! All we can hope for is 6 wins a season now for a long time.

Like to seal your ass up in a basement somewhere Saw style chained to a table watching reruns of Gruden on MNF

Why?

Because one coaching candidate didn't work out? There are plenty other candidates out there.

You got it, hire 50 Cent, man will he be able to recruit and then the OC/DC will take it from there. Oh and he can sing the Anthem b4 the game.

If Gruden said "no thanks", just let it go! We can't make him want the job. Gruden was bound to say "no thanks" whether the job was offered by Dave Hart, Doug Dickey, Bob Woodruff, Hamilton or Jesus himself. Gruden is out of the picture as far as I can see. Let's move on and try to keep it positive!

100-85 head coaching record. Fired from previous job. Never a charismatic coach. Never recruited in the SEC. Never recruited anywhere. Questionable commitment to college ranks if hired. 5-year hiatus from coaching of any kind.

But when you add fun to listen to on ESPN and a Super Bowl versus former team the year after he left because the former team was too stupid to change the offensive playbook, people **** themselves and demand Jon Gruden be the next coach.

Charlie Strong was before and is without a doubt now the best candidate for Tennessee.

But, but...he has a ring ...that means he's AWESOME and would always win! :p

he could have squashed all these rumors but never really did until now it looks like anyway... mediocrity here we come!

I am as miffed about this as anyone but there are still "quality" coaches available. My confidence in Hart is not high right now based on how the Gruden matter was handled but I will wait and see what he comes up with.

Hart is going to be under intense pressure now that it appears Gruden is off the table. I believe he realizes his future at UT is going to be tied to the success of this hire.

on this board, people speak of the greatness of tennessee football. a legendary program. one of the greatest programs in the history of the game.

now, some of those same people want to suggest that only one man could possibly lead this program into future success.

You have no idea how anything was handled. It isn't Hart's job to satisfy the collective clusterf*** of idiots that are most vocal about Gruden.

And how do you know that I don't? And yes it is Hart's job to satisfy vol fans period. Especially those who donate big money to the university.

Seriously, take a Xanex and relax for a minute.

The sky is falling overreactions on this board in the last several hours are hilarious.

Gruden is NOT the only coach that can win in Knoxville. Hell, no one knows for sure if Gruden would have won!!!

On one side, you look at how Gruden can anticipate what the next play will be by a team on MNF, and you think he could be the greatest coach we could get. BUT on the other hand, can he still do it with the pressure from the sidelines as well as from the press box? If he ever takes a coaching job again, maybe that question will be answered. In my opinion, Gruden is scared of taking the Tennessee job. Maybe he isn't the great coach we envision him to be. Personally, I think he is passing on a golden opportunity to prove to the world he is one of the greatest coaches of all time on any level.

All along I thought his ego would be the reason he would take the job. Guys like him love attention and he was a rock star in the making , especially if he had turned our program around.

As long as UT will put up very good salaries, we can still get great coaches without having to settle for "up and comers". Still think Mora Jr., Patterson, Davis are game changers.
