Football Scoop reporting Helton is out

In the battle of former U.T. offensive coordinators today , Dave Clawson's Wake Forest Demon Deacons thrashed David Cutcliffe's Duke Blue Devils 59-7.

Clawson is a pretty good example here, because it was a huge mistake (in hindsight) to fire Fulmer after 1 poor season on offense under Clawson. Clawson has turned an ACC doormat into a consistent bowl team. He would've been successful as OC at Tennessee if we hadn't overreacted and fired him (and the head coach) after Year 1. With Tajh Boyd and some better recruiting, Clawson would've done well. But instead, we got 1 year of bolting-Kiffin, 3 disastrous years of Dooley, and 5 mediocre seasons under Butch (in spite of having some of the most loaded UT teams talent-wise this century!).

Firing Helton would be similar IMO to firing Fulmer and Clawson in 2008. It was a huge mistake. We shouldn't make that mistake again. It's even more egregious this time because literally NO ONE would've succeeded with this O-line.

Maybe Helton wants to leave also. Freeze would be cheap. Someone is going to give him an opportunity

Not only would firing Helton be a huge mistake, hiring Freeze would be a horrible decision, as well. Freeze's offensive philosophy is the EXACT OPPOSITE of Pruitt's. Have any of the "HIRE FREEZE" crowd even thought to themselves how ridiculous it would be to hire an "Air Raid" OC for a "Power Run" offense?

When CJP was being considered he brought up the possibility of hiring Freeze

For those wanting Hugh Freeze, have we learned nothing about hiring coaches tainted by past scandal? Why invite additional NCAA scrutiny?

I mean...just this game alone....Vandy had about a dozen variations of a swing pass/RB or flanker screen. And they were SO good at them all - it's like they were constantly running downhill and there was little we could do about it. Whereas we had zero effectiveness in the short passing game. No way to utilize the speed we have....why wasn't Chandler catching 5 passes a game?
I think we should be able to run more than 3 different plays.

No the mistake we made was Pete Carroll leaving USC for the Seahawks.

Fulmer’s time was done. Recruiting was bad, and he interfered with the offense way too much. It was time

Clawson would have done well here if Fulmer would have let him run the offense.

Clawson wasn't going to be at UT for year 2. That was pretty obvious

Problem with your analogy is what you call "real world" when compared to "football world". In the football world, replacing coordinators is common place. Some move up getting hired to be HCs. Some make lateral moves to another team. And some get fired. Football has a high turnover rate for coaches, so it is, in fact, different for JP.

Eh... I doubt it. Not sure about you, but if I’m Phil...I’m going to be second guessing JP’s next choice.

This will not be a good look for Pruitt. There better be some extenuating circumstances to axe him after year 1.

Again, I caveat all of this with IF IT’S TRUE. Because I don’t think it is.

Please get rid of Will Friend too... worst offensive line play I've ever witnessed... the guy has no idea how to manage personnel... play calling and constant 11 personnel didn't help, but the lineman had no fundamentals, bad feet, terrible hand techniques... I didn't see a lick of coaching the whole season...
