For the complaining fans...

Funny, because when my ass was glued to the baseline for many November/December games, I could recall CCM standing and yelling quite a bit. :dunno:

I guess our measures of quite a bit is different. I've seen too mach crappy play only to look over and see Martin in his seat.

Nope. Have I claimed Martin's greatness in this thread? Nope, not at all.

I just think it's absolutely and utterly asinine (and flat our wrong) to come on here saying Martin shows no passion and does no coaching, which is a complete joke. Hell, the announcer said he liked how Martin is always teaching during the game. It's a lie what you are saying.

The announcer during which game? I've given Martin credit for getting more involved.

Funny, because Bruce was doing the same thing with a better team. But hey, I guess standing and doing nothing is cool as long as you are on your feet.

Yesterday.

And he's always been involved.

I don't know where you get this crap. He's been just as vocal and just as involved from two months ago.

I've watched every UT game for the last 17 years.

And other than 1, I've watched every game this year. And I know what I've saw. Martin is just as involved during the game as Game 1.

Measures? You mentioned glued to a seat. The opposite of that would be "standing".... seems pretty cut and dry to me.

Exactly. Thanks for making my point. The announcer lauding Martin yesterday is just like me giving him credit as well.

Except he's done it all year, not just the last month. You wanna know why they are playing better? Because the players are buying in. Not some asinine idea that Martin is more involved during the game.

I honestly want to know what your point is?

If you sit down then you are not coaching?

Didn't you know? Martin's 6'6 presence makes them do better on the court when he yells out to run play 1.

We all know you're a Martin slurper. Martin's a great coach, it's the players that suck. It's not Matin's fault we have a roster full of non playing basketball crap.

And while we are at it, I'd rather be a Martin slurper than someone who starts a thread wanting to fire a coach after 15 games, then he goes out and has three wins against top 15 competition.

What did IE say that got everyone so upset? I've always liked him. He's been quite the Vol fan for many years. Perhaps I'll wait for him to post.

Memphis Blues,

I called coach out for sitting on the bench like an assistant. It's nice to see him up, working the sideline giving instruction. But regardless of how he worked the sideline yesterday, how does that make me wrong for pointing out a lack of it weeks ago? Failed call-out thread? Nice.

Ha ha. Whatever. You started a stupid thread that makes no sense. Martin is finally appearing to have a pulse during the game. Maybe that's the difference in losing at home to AP and finally winning a road game. Players tend to take on the personality of their coach. It's nice to see some fire in Martin's belly for a change.

You clearly didn't see coach k early in his career.

I expect a coach to coach. Martin was glued to the bench until the last month.

Negative. The guy was a fixture in a chair.

Who ever said anything about jumping up and down? I was tired of seeing us play like crap with Martin planted in his seat. It's about time he's gotten involved in actively coaching between the whistles.

Summary:

he feels that coach martin never left his seat early in the year and just started coaching 3 games ago, and that is why we have won the last 3 games. many on here disagree, and say that he has roamed the sideline for much of the year, and that I.E is just now noticing it, and that it has very little to do with the current 3 game winning streak.

Thanks for the compilation, BTNO. I can appreciate both sides of it. I do like a coach that has a little flair. I think Cuonzo could benefit from it, but if it ain''t his style, it ain't his style. We're all Vol fans. Too much in-fighting on the board, but I suppose that's a byproduct of the passion that we all have as fans.

personally, i dont think it really matters. you can find succesful coaches who sit on their hands and save it for practices. on the flip side you can find guys who yell and scream, jump up and down, and sweat through their shirts who are also succesful. it comes down to style, if you are succesful then dont change your style for anyone. if ccm is succesful by sitting some and standing some and not barking and screaming then thats fine by me. someone else criticized him for not being much of an entertainer, and his post game remarks being boring. personally, if you win i could give 2 craps about any of that stuff, coach k isnt an entertainer nor is he standing for 40 minutes of the game. that is his style, he was that way when he was at army, he was a bit more enthusiastic, but sat on the bench quite a bit like he does now too. that just the way he is, but it doesnt make a difference because his style is clearly effective for him.

Bingo!

anytime a player or coach is in the least bit criticized the posters that really feel opposite are going to jump that poster. just part of message board etiquette i suppose.

He has to coach to the needs of his team. Duke players don't need as much in game coaching as we do. I think he has realized that his team is short on vocal leaders. He has definitively been more vocal lately.
