For a moment I thought someone had revived a thread from 2005.

Great players make coaches sometimes look better, is Saban a better coach today compared to when Bama went 6-6 in his 1st year? NO, he just has better talent. There's a reason a guy like Phil Jackson doesn't rush off to coach the Bucks. So by your philosophy a "VFL" means more when it comes to coaching?? Is Tee Martin still a VFL since he spurned us for USC? What about Sanders staying inside the SEC and going to KY to coach against "one of his own"?

Please explain your sound logic as it relates to tee Martin and randy sanders. Do you get to pick and choose vfl's? Are tee and randy the only two x vols in the coaching profession? Was ken Donahue a Vfl when he was kicking our butt at Bama? What about Coach Dickey? Do you fault him for becoming a staunch gator supporter after retiring from ut? You guys are silly about this stuff....

It worked out pretty dang well when Phil brought back Cutt to work miracles with Ainge and cover up some of his own shortcomings. After Cutt left the second time it's been a series of bad hires, starting with Clawson.

True.....looking back, coach cut would have been a much better fit than the two tools hired by Hamilton. But ainge had fully recovered from his injury as well.

Coordinator/ qb coach of a national championship team. Is it possible that he will establish himself enough to eventually become our head coach? I know there are a lot of necks that don't understand football and don't like him, but if Fsu wins another title soon with his leadership, he is positioning himself nicely. I like butch a lot, but if he become very successful, michigan may come calling. Just things to think about. Go randy! Go vols!:hi:

If you are going to diss "necks" who "don't understand football" then you should be a little more careful with your facts.

Sanders WAS NOT the OC for FSU's national championship team. He was the QB coach... which is what he is good at. Fisher may micromanage him to "success". But he has twice failed as an OC. He was HORRIBLE at UT only masked by extraordinary talent.

Here's a simple challenge for you oh so "knowledgeable" one. Go track the ppg during Fulmer's tenure. Note the Cutcliffe years... and the Sanders years.

Sanders cannot discipline an offense much less a whole team. The worst mistake UT could EVER make would be to make him HC.

It is truly an incredible feat of distorted reasoning for someone so devoted to Fulmer to simultaneously defend the guy who probably more than anyone else cost Fulmer his job.

What about 2001? In 2002, clausen broke his collar bone. But in 2003 and 2004 we won 10 games (wow, tough times, huh?) in 2005, we had a qb controversy but Ainge had not fully recovered from injuries the previous year. There's more to it than meets the eye when everyone wants to Fahr the coach.:good!:

Yeah in '05 we had a QB controversy because they both stunk. Our best offense that year was hoping Chavis' defense could get a turnover and take it in for a score.

:lolabove::eek:lol: Are you serious. You do know we have a coach in Butch Jones don't you. If you understand football then you know Butch is building this team up and we will be back on top before too long. As for you thing for Randy Sanders the answere is no. Not for head coach or O-cord.

Oh ok, in name only? If that makes you feel better. Randy sanders can't possibly be the offensive coordinator of a national championship team! Especially after he was brutalized by our all knowing fan base, you know, the ones that wanted Phil gone?

That would be me. I'll tell you just like all the Fulmer supporters told me for 16 years after Coach Majors was fired, he's gone, he ain't coming back, get over it.

There is a very good chance that Fulmer would still be UT's coach and having success if he had not let blind personal loyalty to an incompetent OC get in the way. If he had done what he should have done around 2002... offered Sanders a demotion or termination option... Fulmer might have had his best years in the 00's instead of a disgraceful exit.

Amazing!!! Randy sanders is one of our own ! He is a Vfl! A real Vfl not a faux Vfl like vol fans.

So disagreeing that Sanders is HC material or a talented OC means that someone isn't a "real Vfl"?

Maybe there is nothing MORE VFL than wanting to assure the program has elite coaches held to a high standard... IOW's, you don't qualify.

I read the thread title and agreed ... RANDY SANDERS IS OFFENSIVE!

Then I read the op and realized I had wasted part of my life I cannot get back. But, Randy Sanders is still offensive.

I wouldn't just limit that to Sanders but you're point is dead on that Fulmer's stubbornness to replace long term members of the staff with more aggressive recruiters (I would include Steve Caldwell and Dan Brooks as well - neither were recruiting worth a flip here at the end) helped lead to his downfall.

Why? Just why did you actually post this? Do you think before you speak?

Did you recently have a concussion? Did someone pay you to do this?

Are you real or just a computer robot?

Are you asleep and posting in your dreams?

Why? Why?
