Friday weigh in thread (suns out guns out challenge 8/31/2025)

How long?

Looked this up and it seems to be a rapid weight loss start up diet for obesity.

24 days. There's different levels to it but yeah it was initially created for really obese people to lose a lot of weight in a short amount of time like a kickstarter then switch to a more sustainable diet. Now people of all fitness levels use it, usually for events such as weddings.

Looks miserable. Is there actual evidence of muscle retention? I have a hard time believing that over a sustained time.

Also, do you plan on exercising during this time?

Good luck and congrats though.

That sounds like a terrible idea. When I started my weight loss in Nov I lost 17lbs in the same time frame while eating around 2000-2300 cal. You would have no energy and the bounce after 24 days would likely erase any gains made

I quit lifting weights outside of doing Orangetheory but I'm not doing any exercise while on this besides lifting. You prevent bounce back by slowly increasing calories. Down 3 after first day.

Nobody said it's fun but yes there is. Read up on Lyle McDonald. Incorporate a little IF and it makes it easier. First protein shake around 2 then all your chicken and veggies after work.

Glad I found this thread. I'm starting a new weight loss regimen and today is day one.

I'm 6'2" and on my first weigh in today I am 254.6 pounds. My goal is to get to 200 lbs and then maintain. I have set myself on a 1600 calorie a day diet, which puts me on a path to lose approx 2 lbs per week. I also plan to start out doing 30 minutes of cardio each day. Any thoughts or advice would be welcome. Thanks.

I wouldn't worry about doing that much cardio since you're doing 1600 cals.

I know of McDonald and he obviously knows his stuff but that just sounds painful. Especially if you're gonna be working out as well.

Good luck and interested to hear results.

Use a calorie diary like Lose It or MyFitnessPal. Both will keep track of your intake as well as calories burned through exercise.

Start off with more calories and taper down. Also, don't go crazy with cardio.

Eating that little with that much cardio and you'll lose a lot more than fat.

Schedule a cheat day.
It's easier to transition to a new lifestyle if you don't quit cold turkey.

Sorry but I hate this idea. It might make sense on some crazy crash diet but people who need to lose real weight must change their lifestyle. I just don't believe you can commit to that change when you allow yourself to cheat.

That personal belief could be based on the ketogenic diet I've chosen since a cheat day destroys the plan and takes days to get back in line.

Here's my tip: Decide what you want. Decide how bad you want it. Then find the means to get yourself there.

IIFYM is hard for people just starting to dieting/counting cals and macros.
Bit tongue in cheeck.

Most people that try diets fail because it is a drastic change and set up for failure. Eat relatively well with protein, veggies, etc. and exercise. Still enjoy what you like.

I don't count calories, macros, anything.

It's based on the idea that most people will fail at some point in their lifestyle changes. When they fail they often think they've screwed up so they go completely off the wagon. This is why so many that loose weight gain it all back and more. If you know there is a pop tart in your Saturday morning plans then it's less likely there will be any other pop tarts.

Whatever they need. I just have a hard time celebrating weight loss my eating the exact thing that made me a fat ass in the first place. I quit a 20+ year tobacco habit and didn't do it by rewarding myself with a dip every week. To each their own I guess
