'19 GA ATH Owen Pappoe (Auburn signee)

By all accounts Pruitt is very upfront with recruits. And any recruit can see that we're almost full and probably waiting on a few big fish to fill out the class. How, if you honestly tell someone where you're at, is that insulting? Too much conjecture in here.
Brillo, you wouldn't at least chuckle at it if you are Clark, knowing you have an offer from WV?

So offering a kid a PWO with a chance to earn a scholly is a major insult but not offering him at all isn't....... Am I missing the logic or not understanding certain attitudes?

My point is why risk it when we already seem to be in good shape without doing it. Maybe insult isn't the right word, but they could definitely see it as just trying to use Clark to get his teammates. And the reason they could see it that way is because that is exactly what it would be. IMO it's not worth it.

Butchna, you have a full ride offer to WV. Jeremy Pruitt just got it handed to him by WV, and now he's asking you to walk on at UT. Would you laugh at him?
Now substitute Boston College and ask the same question. And as far as “laugh”? Never. This kid’s on a team packed with stars...he has a sense of reality. In no universe would a SEC offer be an INSULT. That’s the aftershocks of BVS tugging at you after you’ve pretty much held off that foe.

I'm not saying he should take the PWO. He shouldn't btw. I'm saying he shouldn't be insulted that a coach at a P5 school doesn't want to offer him a full ride. What Auburn did bus something I don't approve of. Hated it when Tennessee did it. But that still doesn't mean the kid should be insulted when his teammates are getting offers and he isn't.
If he shouldn't take it, and it's not in his best interest then we shouldn't offer it. We would only be offering it to try to get Pappoe and benefit us, not for his benefit. I realize things like that are common but the idea of offering him a PWO to hopefully land his friend seems very selfish to me. It's just a silly fan theory and there is no indication Pruitt would do it so I will get off my high horse and stop commenting on it. I hope Clark finds a good situation where he can get a free education and play football for a D1 / P5 school regardless of where Pappoe goes.

He's not talking about an SEC offer though. A PWO is not the same as an SEC offer.

I still think that’s conjecture. If you’re looking at no other SEC offers to speak of, and your next best offers are Kansas, West Virginia, or Oregon State, you don’t laugh at a PWO. You seriously consider it.

@Sleegro Our situation at center changed about a week ago. There’s such things as changed conditions to warrant extending such an offer.

Our situation at center concerning recruits for next year didn't change at all. Not like Clark can play this season for us and Kennedy will be back next season. And so will Ryan Johnson. Same as before.

I agree, no SEC OFFER is ever insulting. PWO is nowhere near a free ride to play football. It's like Sleegro said, maybe "insult" is not the best term. But, just me, if Pruitt asked me to walk on, and I have an offer from WV (amongst the other P5 he has), I'm laughing at him.

Injuries can cause a positional re-evaluation, and all we know about Kennedy is that he's injury prone and coming off of a major injury at that. All I'm saying is that our situation changed, and it has.

I get what you're saying, NOTHING like being in the SEC, no matter how you're there...but...man!!...to turn down full rides to other big time conferences...takes some balls, I'll give you that.

No, but I can name you Paul Bain, Eli Wolf, Nick Reveiz, and the Sullins twins off the top of my head. There's guys every year that earn a scholarship.
I know that there are, absolutely it can happen; but, on the other side of that are names upon names upon names of those who didn't.

I'd guess that it really boils down to being a southern kid and having the respect of the SEC ingrained in your blood. Even if you can't get a scholarship right away to a SEC school, merely being on the team means more than being at, say, Western Kentucky.

It is when you earn that scholarship
Yes but he's already earned full rides at other p5 schools without having to pay for 1 to 3 years of school first. Not like we're his dream school or his family lives here so he can save on living expenses.

How long did they pay their way before earning the scholarship? That's a lot of money.

Depends on if the kid is smart or not. (Have no idea about Clark)

I’m sure if he’s smart the UTAD can find lots and lots and lots of academic money for a football player ;)

Doubt this even comes close to happening so we’re all arguing over nothing lol

This.. IMO, unless CJP really wants/needs Clark, with numbers the way they are he shouldn't offer (scholly or PWO). Especially if it's just to seal the deal w/ Pappoe..

That being said, if presented honestly, a PWO should not be taken as an insult. It's simply a choice, one the player is under no obligation to accept.

Think they were insulted before they earned it? Levi Wallace do a slow burn at Bama whilst starting on a NC team?
