'19 GA ATH Owen Pappoe (Auburn signee)

This.. IMO, unless CJP really wants/needs Clark, with numbers the way they are he shouldn't offer (scholly or PWO). Especially if it's just to seal the deal w/ Pappoe..

That being said, if presented honestly, a PWO should not be taken as an insult. It's simply a choice, one the player is under no obligation to accept.
This has always been under the caveat of Pruitt valuing Clark but hindered by the numbers.

Given my lack of recruiting knowledge I assumed if I knew it most of the recruiting world knew it, but thanks for letting me know..

Do you remember what the QB's name is that chose a PWO to us, over a PWO to Nebraska? Neither do I.
Just read your question. Bart Harris...didn’t even have to look it up. 😉 Tho I’ll admit I didn’t know we beat out Nebraska...thought it was Mizzou.

That wasn't my point.
But that’s where your point ended up. He always wanted to play for Bama but thought he’d have to settle for a college out west. His dad told him to work for his dreams and look what happened! Not painting any of this on Clark but there are thousands of stories like this.

Nice job, my man. He actually announced he was going to Nebraska, iirc.

Strictly referring to my posts in this discussion. If you found a way to get personally insulted on a topic of a player being insulted by a PWO offer...I guess there’s some creative talent to be credited.

Not where my point ended up. You read it into there for some reason. My point to you was that a full scholarship offer was different than a pwo. I don't even know what bama has to do with this. If I was his father, advisor, etc and he had a pwo offer at any SEC school or a scholarship offer at any other d1 school, I would tell him to take the scholarship somewhere else. As far as a pwo being insulting, I agree it's not inherently. But when its being brought up as we should offer clark a pwo as a way to get his friend to sign with us, which is how this conversation started, then I could see how he could feel like we are only using him and don't have his best interests in mind with the offer. Therefore possibly feeling insulted.

Didn’t see him our current roster. With Martinez’s injury, he would’ve been in the running for some playing time.

I wonder how long Martinez is going to be out? I haven't read or seen anything about it.

Have anyone ever sold anything and got a tremendously, low ball offer, and the before they offered you they said " I don't mean to insult you with this offer"? While to some it might not be insulting but to others it might be. I don't know if a PWO would be to Clark. If I said one way or another it wold be presumptuous of me.

I’m not on board with making a PWO just to get in good with another. That’s someone else’s jam. I jumped in when someone suggested that a legitimate PWO offer is an “insult” to the young man...hogwash. And a PWO offer is a spot on a SEC roster. You’re covered medically and eat at the training table and train with the strength staff...and you’re a member of the team! Maybe you’re confusing it with “an opportunity to walk on”. A kid that manages to get INSULTED at such an offer ain’t worth a **** anyway!

Frost said his knee was sore but there’s no tear. Didn’t rule him out for Saturday. Alleging some dirty play on Colorado...prolly shouldn’t be so public about it.

Take Pappoe out of the equation, it's not insulting, we offer PWO all the time. Having not offered before, neither scholarship or PWO...and now we do, right when the door has opened on someone else, it could very much be insulting, especially when the kid has offers from other P5 schools, including a school that just smoked us.

An offer of a PWO (and all it entails) could absolutely be construed as insulting to a 17 year old kid, when they have P5 scholarship offers on the table.

It’s not like this kid grew up bleeding orange and has dreamed for years of playing for Tennessee and a PWO is an opportunity to chase that dream.

So NOT offering any opportunity is it’s own compliment? Gotta buy that book. If Pruitt doesn’t see enough in him, all this is a moot point. I trust the guy to offer or not based on the player’s merits.

Can anyone think of PWO that chose that over other D1 offers? I can’t. This whole argument is based on a hypothetical that is not going to happen. Probably a backup plan for wright with upside of getting Pappoe.

I'm not confusing a pwo with anything. I'm saying in the context of how this conversation started, that we should offer it as a way to get pappoe, it is insulting. And even with all the other medical side benefits, it is nowhere near as good as a full scholarship.

D1 offers? Yeah...lots! Eli Wolf for example. Ohio had a full ride for him. Now WVA and Boston College offer are different but Nebraska built an empire with kids that walked on who could have rode free at legitimate colleges. Baker Mayfield did ok as well.

But you didn’t add any of that extra when you blurted “Offering him a PWO is absolutely an insult!” So I could only react to that. The way the general populace has degraded a scholarship as peanuts in college football...I’d say it’s pretty near.

"Hey, we see that you are no longer committed to Auburn... If you have been watching any of our games and speaking with OP, you can see that we are in need of help on the O line, and while we would like to offer you a scholarship, at this time with the way the numbers are working out and kids that are probably going to commit, we can only offer you a PWO position... I can give you my word that if you come in your first year and put in the work, I can see to it that you will get a scholly moving forward after your freshman year.... " How does that sound?

It's the same as going for a job interview and them offering you a ridiculously low amount in relation to the market. Most on here would take that as an insult.
