'24 GA EDGE Kameryn Fountain (USC commit)

Well, with that ridiculous response... you shouldn't have clicked. you are wrong. Badly wrong. Stupidly wrong. I don't know if you really cannot understand or if you're being intentionally obtuse.
I never said there is an "absolute value". I said it is stupid to go into a bid without preparing and determining what the value is to you considering your other options and available resources.
Used car salesmen look for suckers. It is an accurate comparison.
And yeah, you and others have consistently implied that the program is screwing up by not throwing money at particular players WITHOUT the very information you cite above.

So when you state strong opinions you just have conviction... but if I do it I'm being argumentative? I can assure you that I am NOT a negative person and much of my reaction to your particular "convictions" is their negative, critical, and condemning tone.

If you don't have the courage to be challenged and engage in a lively debate... please, keep me on ignore and never look back.
Other thing staff has to consider is what players at the same position on our current team are getting. Because you can get into real locker locker room issues, not to mention having players come asking for more, if you don’t factor that into the equation when offering NIL deals to recruits.

THIS…..Ignoring this will destroy team culture overnight….was 2022 USCjr a result of this?

Bottom line, DL recruiting has to be better. Have to get some beasts for the inside. I know there are some guys still out there, but we missed on the majority of our top targets. Fountain, Franklin, Nwaneri.... If it's a case of getting outbid and "not doing bidding wars", then Spyre is going to have to adjust. Sometimes, you have to pay more to get more.

Easy Bro--- can't come back and start saying this type of stuff when earlier in the recruiting cycle, if anyone criticized Heup/UT for taking the stance of "we aren't going to overpay and get into a bidding war" they got blitzed--- even when clearly we missed out on a lot of top tier talent because we wouldn't pay... Now this staff is going to have to live with that, no excuses... they better produce with less because they had top tier talent seriously interested in UT, but we didn't want to pay and passed on them letting them go with another school. Can't have it both ways.

It's real simple with the pay or not to overpay in these situations. If this staff doesn't want to overpay and is willing to miss out on top tier talent, then fine, they are the coaches, but they better also understand that they better freakin do more with less and no excuses and produce on the field. They will need to live with what they have. The fanbase knows the top tier talent that was truly interested in us, and most likely would have committed, but we weren't willing to pay. It's on the coaching staff now... we'll see what happens.

No the fanbase doesn’t. Unless the recruits told you directly?

NIL helps but having the right culture along with the guys that’s bought into the program, makes a good football team.

Eventually, paying players different amounts of money to come to your school will start causing some miscommunications and drama to the locker room.

I have zero issue with the way Heupel runs his ship.
Agreed on the first part.

So you propose communism?

You had me until the fanbase part. Then got me back at the it’s on the coaching staff part. I don’t think we fans or the reporters have really any idea the what and to extent of what actually goes down throughout this process. Outsiders view with outsiders knowledge.

Absolutely. And the only reason someone should get paid more is if they’re better or the staff has just that much confidence that they’re getting that much of a better long term investment. This is the new college football, not all of it, but a major factor that is now much more visible.

No one requires an excuse from you, troll, least of all our staff. And there's no excuse for your sad-sack pot shots and troll fails. You fool no one.

So when did ESD happen and when did these guys you say we missed in sign their LOIs?

And that’s going to eventually erode the sport.

So getting free housing, free state of the art strength and conditioning, state of the art medical care, free high quality food, personal trainers, tutors, dieticians and therapists is communism? Getting cash whenever you need it and a free degree from a big time D1 university is communism??

Players were getting paid way before NIL, that’s a fact. I think a lot of this talk is way overblown and and a lot of pure speculation. Not that there might not be some truth, but NIL is not the sole reason a lot of kids pick a school. I think there is a false perception there. Sure some may be looking solely for top dollar but not all. Just my opinion. GBO

This. Unless your name is Francis Mauigoa.

No. I'm not sure that poster has a realistic idea about what communism actually is.

When you have the freedom as you mention to sign a contract that gives you a bunch of financial benefits and other perks if you provide a service... that's not communism.

From the fanbase standpoint I meant that we now have more access to seeing and knowing who's visiting and interested, along with pretty accurate criteria as to what it would take to land them... We have threads for every recruit, so we know who ends up where and why. True that we only know outsiders' knowledge, but we do know the extent of the talent.

I actually agree with most of this... except for maybe what the fanbase "knows".

The part you and others miss in your rush to declare the sky is falling... is that there is other talented guys and other means of getting talent. It isn't get Nwaneri or don't get anyone who can play that position well. It is a choice between overpaying for him or finding someone else with similar talent that you don't have to overpay for or better yet find someone who has PROVEN that they're worthy of whatever you're going to pay them out of the portal.

Campbell has looked pretty good at LT so far. He was a "3*" portal player. If it is my money I'm bidding with, I am far more willing to give him a big NIL deal than an unproven HS OT regardless of his rating. One is a pretty sure bet. The other isn't.

You also only get to spend your money once in these bidding wars. Throwing a wad to overpay a DE means you cannot compete for another player even if their value is more aligned with the NIL it would take.

Pretty sure he meant the “everyone gets the same thing” part. It’s not about how big the pie is, but about how it gets split up.

Just my opinion but I’m not concerned about flipping this guy.

The way his mom trashed our program over some stupid internet troll, turned me off.

We have some good Edge Rushers committed already.
