Game Thread: #19/21 Lady Vols vs. #22/20 Oklahoma, Sat 1:32PM, WSN network

I think it's you guys who are delusional. Yes, sadly, I'm afraid the spot we're in is this win was huge, definitely one to get excited over. Yes I see the issues. There are many, led by the absence of the best player this program has had in years. And so many others as you said and we all saw. All the more reason to be effin delighted we avoided getting swept in Fla.

I wish I could be all haughty taughty and set high standards for wins, but clearly we are not living in that world. I'm back to taking it one game at a time and hoping we somehow piece it together. Espec unless/until we get RJ back. Am I thrilled it's this way? No. Did I expect this? Hell no. But here we are, once again.

Who guards Hilago Wednesday night? Time to start Wynn? Ya'll see how hard Cora Hall is campaigning for Wynn in her coverage?
The naysayers can say what they want. The Lady Vols won against a ranked opponent and that's what counts. They won without Rickea and Jasmine Powell came up big with some clutch 3-pointers. The team got a crucial split in the Florida tourney and hopefully Rickea can play in at least one of the two games against Notre Dame and Ohio State in Knoxville. Like I said after the last home game, she was walking around in her boot very well so hopefully it will be any day now.

Good point about Wynn. She was a big part of the spark that got the team going in the 3rd with the intangibles. I love Cora consistently pointing this out. Wynn will be the best option to guard Hidalgo along with Powell.

Getting 1 of 2 wins in Florida without Rickea is enormous for this team. I hope it boosts their confidence that they can beat good teams. Ultimately, I'm thrilled that the "can't beat a ranked team" monkey is off their back early in the season.

This team still has much to improve on, but I appreciate that the defense has looked better in spurts. Rebounding has been hurt without Rickea, for sure. I wonder if we'll see more Wells and Powell playing together moving forward. It may be necessary against some teams even with the size we'd lose.

No matter how much excitement we thought it was worth, the kids were pretty dang excited. That's what Kea's talking about!

It did feel like a monkey off the back, and they did play better the second half. We're going to have to embrace the ugly again, at least until Kea gets back. Hope we can pretty it up again then.

JP made the all tourney team. Well done!

Is there anyway to watch the replay of todays game?
There is most of time a YouTube video of every basket 27 to33 minutes long and sometimes there two videos that long. And every now and then you can find whole games. Try tomorrow evening on YouTube sometimes they post in a few hours

I know everyone that loves women's basketball and cares deeply about the kids that play it have read this article. But I wanted to post it for those that may have missed it.

Jillian Hollingshed is such a beautiful person, whom I love to watch play. She didn't play great today but I know she has next level skills. I think her scoped knee keeps her from being as mobil as she would like. Hope Coach Harper will suggest Yoga for Jillian. It's worked wonders for JJJ on the men's team.
For those who think Coach Harper can't recruit...read the article.
Tennessee is not for everyone. Glad Hollingshead found her home here.

Trying to figure out what they are doing with her. She could be running sprints at hitt intensity and also jogging at medium intensity and be in really great shape in just a couple of weeks far from where she is now. She seems to have regained her coordination in the half court, but certainly is having trouble running the floor. I don't of course know when she was released for full conditioning, but it has to be so now cause she wouldn't be playing. That said the strength and conditioning coach is doing a poor job getting her ready. Her vox max looks like that of an old man. Two three trips down the court and she is ready to kill over.

So, speculating on the cardiopulmonary details involved, but ima take a stab at some basics. PEs are clots that have traveled to the lungs. Those clots prevent blood flow. Blood flow pools and becomes stagnant depriving O2 to the lung tissue. Also, the blood backs into the heart, which affects the contractility of the heart and can limit the delivery of O2 to the coronary arteries that feed the heart tissue. I am fearful that being medically cleared does not mean having lungs that perfuse properly and heart tissue that contracts with a normal ejection fraction. TK has had a major cardiac event. Is it possible that we could think of it as having a heart attack?? Again not certain, but these responses that she is lazy, she needs to do HIIT, she needs to watch what she eats, or whatever. It may be she is doing the absolute best she can as she is limited by actual structural damage. These posts go beyond insulting and posters might want to think twice about what they say.

Missed most of the game cuz of the holidays. Her +/- however was 15. Far above anyone else on the team. Played so many minutes that it’s hard to call it a fluke.

This is a win but by no means was this a season changer. Oklahoma was handled by Princeton. Show me we can beat a top 15 team consistently. Show me we can stay within 20 of a top five team. This was a win. Better than a loss type win. But nothing i would get excited over. This team has many issues from coaching on down to grt straightened out.
Just this past weekend we watched Washington State #23 lose to unranked Green Bay today, Louisville lost to unranked Alabama, #9 Virginia Tech got by Kansas by a whole point yesterday and barely beat Tulane today, LSU struggled to beat unranked Virginia (76-73), Uconn with all of its All-Americans got by a 2-3 Kansas team by 8 points and yes Unranked Princeton got a win against Ranked Oklahoma. The Parity is up tremendously in women's basketball. A win against a ranked team is a win and we are going to see a lot of upsets continue this year. The 5th year players have created a tremendous amount of depth across the country. Some of these schools we never heard of beating P-5 schools have players that have been playing together for 3-4 years. Instant transfers build depth. Teams don't have to depend on freshmen to come in and fill spots and won't again next year. Wins are going to be tough this year and it doesn't matter if you're playing a ranked team or not.

Kellie still has that bounce in her step jogging off a court with Rocky Top playing 27-28 years later. The pony tale isn't quite that braid, but the stride is still the same. Love it!

If it is like you say she shouldn't be playing at all there would be no future in it. A person with a low ejection fraction or strucural heart damage should not be running at all way to dangerous. I can't see any way they would clear her for any physical activity of such and intense physical sport if her condition is as you specify. If they did then that is certainly medical malpractiice. My post is clear that if she is 100 percent cleared of any medical problems her physical progression seems a bit slow. I am hoping she can get back to where she was because she could have a long basketball career far beyond Tennessee.

You make a good point about who guards Hidalgo. But also remember she takes a lot of shots, Yes she had 31 against SC but took 24 shots to.

i noticed the leg sleeve on Hollingshead. Does she have a lingering leg issue. She seems a bit off jogging.

My biggest note from last game is we still basically only played 6 girls… Kaiya had 11 mins :/ no way in heck she starts.

You have to start Jas against ND. She was high key our best defensive guard against Oklahoma. You try to match up Wells or Tess with Hannah it’s going to turn into a deficit we can’t come back from.
I like Jaz coming off the bench. Great teams have a player that enters the game and elevates the overall play on both ends of the floor. Jaz can be that for this team. Play her 30+ minutes but use her as a spark. Remember Vinnie (Microwave) Johnson of the Detroit Pistons many years ago?.

I really believe we need this number to go up! 11 minutes is not enough for how impactful she's been to our team D. To me, it would make sense to split her time with Tess until Rickea comes back.

Then when Rickea returns, it gives the team a solid 8-9 player rotation for SEC play. I think Kayia is getting more confidence on the offensive end and makes things happen when she's in there

Manu Ginobli was another.
