Called and asked to speak to to the Lieutenant or Chief. They lady was hesitant until I started telling her things she could familiarize with and then said "oh my" and patched me through.

Had to leave a message though.

Anybody know if the guy that was on TV talking about his wife and kids ever found anything out? Pretty random I know, but was all over the news that first day.


Edit: NVM find an article saying they were still missing. Sad.

The wife and kids didn't have a car and she called when the house was on fire. This one is not going to end well.

So the rental company won't refund our money for the cabin this weekend. Is there any reason at all for us to consider going with the conditions?

Where's your cabin located you rented? Is it in Gatlinburg or Pigeon forge by Dollywood?

If it was in Gatlinburg they have no idea if it's standing or burnt down. They haven't let anybody in that's not a first responder.

Alamo Steakhouse: Destroyed

Applewood Farmhouse: Intact, and served meals to first responders.

Arrowmont School of Arts and Crafts: All buildings except Hughes Hall and Wild Wing survived with little damage. (More info)

Black Bear Falls: Earlier reports from TEMA said it was destroyed, but management has confirmed no damage.

Buckberry Lodge: Says they are “currently assessing the situation and conditions of the lodge.” Currently unable to take reservations.

Carr’s Cottages: No known damage as of Tuesday morning.

Chalet Village: Suffered damage, but not destroyed.

CLIMB Works: Intact

Cobbly Knob area: About 70 homes destroyed.

Condo Villas of Gatlinburg Association: 31 homes completely destroyed

Days Inn on the River: Owner confirmed to WBIR they believe the building is still standing, though they think a the Quality Inn behind it will likely be damaged.

Deer Ridge Mountain Resort: Intact (link)

Dollywood: Several cabins damaged or destroyed. DreamMore resort not damaged. Dollywood park has some wind damage but no damage from fire. Park will be closed Wednesday. (More info)


Downtown Gatlinburg: Intact

Elkmont: Intact

Elk Springs Resort: Cabins seem to be in fine shape, though some employees lost their homes.

Fudge Shoppe of the Smokies: intact and will reopen as soon as allowed

Gatlinburg-Pittman High School: Not damaged

Great Smoky Mountains Institute at Tremont: GSMNP officials confirmed to WBIR no park structures have been damaged by the fires in the Elkmont or Park Headquarters area. They did have minor damage from downed trees.

Hillbilly Golf: Buildings intact, some damage to the golf course.

Highland Condominiums: Destroyed. One couple shared their story as they fled their burning condo

LeConte Lodge: Intact

Little Log Wedding Chapel: Intact

Log Cabin Pancake House (Pigeon Forge and Gatlinburg): Intact

Mooney's Ski Mountain Chalet: Unknown. They said "We greatly appreciate all of the calls, texts, and messages. We are currently unsure of the condition of our place as they are not letting anyone in the area right now. We will be sure to let you all know more as soon as we do!"

Mysterious Mansion: Unknown-- conflicting reports earlier said it was destroyed, but that may not be the case. Follow their Facebook page for further updates.

Ober Gatlinburg: Intact

Park Vista hotel: Intact (More info)

Parrot Mountain: Intact

Pi Beta Phi Elementary School: Intact (Suffered some minor wind and smoke damage)

Pittman Center Elementary School: Not damaged

Ripley's Aquarium: Intact. Biologists at the aquarium confirm the animals are OK. (More info)




Rocky Waters Motor Inn: Owner confirmed to WBIR they believe the building is still standing.

Sugarland Visitors Center: GSMNP officials confirmed to WBIR no park structures have been damaged by the fires in the Elkmont or Park Headquarters area. They did have minor damage from downed trees.

Sweet Fanny Adams Theatre: Intact, according to an update on the theatre's Facebook page, although the owner lost his home.

The Island: Completely untouched by fire.

The Mountain Lodge (Restaurant): Destroyed.

Tree Tops Resort: They know some (if not all) of their buildings have been destroyed. They said it is possible some may not have been, but they have not been able to return yet.

Wear's Valley area: About 70 homes destroyed.

Westgate Resort: Many cabins damaged, but planning to reopen remaining cabins in two weeks, and to rebuild the others

The Lieutenant called me back within 30 minutes today. Told him the situation in Gatlinburg and that we were trying to find any info on the area when we came across the site with the comments.

He proceeded to look the site and story up while I was still reading the comments the best I could to him. Told me thank you that he would start calling on this right away and ask if I minded if he could call me back. I told him ofcourse.

Within 25 minutes he calls me back and tells me he called the local FBI office and the Judges office. Also says that both the judge and FBI are aware of him and know him as "Erick Giumelli".

He also said he doubted he had anything to do with the fire in Gatlinburg but was just being gleeful over it in his post.

I mentioned he talked about the big valley fire out in Mendocino last April in a comment on the second story with the 2000 comments. He told me they caught that guy.

I asked him why he wasn't in jail and threatening their Police Department, agents and judges. He said there is no credible evidence since he just posts the comments and doesnt act. Also said the FBI office called him a nutjob.

At this point in my head I'm thinking two things. #1 I'm calling bs because threatening Federal Agents and judges whether written or spoken are huge offenses and all they would have to do is get a warrant, trace the ip address and grab him and his computer or #2 this sent them scrambling and when he called me back downplayed it to me and just said the FBI called him a nutjob.

Or #3 Maybe he is just some nutjob.

I did email him both links with the comments so I passed along what we all found and can sleep better knowing they have the info if something was to happen.

It got me thinking later today. If they really just call him a nutjob and laugh it off, I sure hope they are really monitoring this guy. These are the people that walks in movie theaters and malls to do as much damage as possible.


I would like to say sorry and I never meant to hijack the Gatlinburg thread with this. The comments were eerily creepy to me after watching my beloved Smoky Mountain town in flames Monday night.

No reason to apologize, man. We all have an obligation to keep this country safe. You see something that doesn't add up, you do something about it.

Now, I honestly think we cracked this open and they're probably looking for the guy. ERICK GIUMELLI seems to be a ghost, but I'm going to do a little more research tonight. He mentioned talking to agents on the phone, so there's more to this, in my opinion.

Like I said before, if mods think we're crazy, feel free to bust this up and throw it in a new thread.

Very possible. Not like the Lieutenant was going to call back and act excited, surprised and give me details. If there is some loon out there they definitely don't want the public to know.

I agree the name is just one he has just picked out to use and lets be honest, after that second link with the 2000 comments were found and what was being said in them I have no doubt he is of Middle Eastern decent.

so in that crazy video of the guys coming down the mountain in the truck, running over downed trees and wires, with the blaze going crazy around them...

I'm worried for the people that they pass at the beginning. It looked like they had a Chrysler 300 or some sedan.

I hope that they were able to make it down too
