Gatlinburg Being Evacuated

Amazingly enough we have not requested Federal Funds. Fema is not here, TEMA is. State levels are handling it all. We are actually for the most part giving to local organizations and not the red cross. My understanding is the Red Cross is packing the donations up and using them where they see fit not necessarily in Sevier County. We really aren't asking for Federal Help.

We did not BURN our Town. However we will Not pay to rebuild FEDERAL parks and property. We have insurance, we resilience and we have shovel ready jobs.

Let us burn and watch our community come together and flourish regardless. There is no looting no rioting only good people supporting one another.

My friends and neighbors are weeping, for their loss. Let them talk while my best friends are sweeping for bodies. We are the VOLUNTEER state, and WE are showing our true colors.

While the tourist are calling and berating some of my best friends because the parade has been cancelled, and it has "ruined their vacation".

We will survive and we WILL flourish. We don't want your federal funding or help. The current president has ignored what is happening on Federal Land. MSN is focusing on tweets. While we are collecting tractors and trailers to help our own.

Say as you will. We are showing our true colors. We are Tennessee We are the Volunteer State, We Will Flourish and rise from the ashes like the great Phoenix.

WE ARE #SEVIERCOUNTYSTRONG.

Amen, Brother.

So much hate in the comments section. Intolerant liberals gleefully celebrating disaster because they believe everyone in Tennessee is a Trump supporter. So disgusting. Why can't we value human life? Why must our politics be so polarizing? I will also admit the ignorance and hate is on both sides.

That's the thing. Comments sections are ugly on both sides of the fence. People say things that they would not say in person if they actually were faced with what is going on.

All you can do is focus on the positive and realize that those individuals don't speak for everyone.

I try to. I just find it so disgusting that people want to turn tragedy into a political spectacle. I'm proud that our community is able to come together and help each other out during this disaster. It speaks volumes that everyone can put aside their differences to help their fellow man. It makes me proud to be a Tennessean.

the bolded part- I don't want to take away from what this thread is supposed to be about, but this is a habit with them. I have personally watched them take donations from other organizations or just community gatherings and slap their names on it, and what wasn't given out, was used to replenish their own shelves.

don't get me wrong, they do do a lot of good, but not nowhere what they claim to do or claim to be

I've always heard that. I've heard more bad than good about them.

Ruined their vacation?!

Good God, that's infuriating. Just stay away.

Just found out that my in-laws lost their cabin. It was a getaway for the family, and there are people much worse off. It's not life or death. But there were so many memories there for my wife, and we had taken our kids several times. Had it for about 30 years. Just a sad day.

Update: ten now deceased. Sad

They must be expecting to find more. The news said people will be able to return tomorrow except for 3 areas because of ongoing search efforts. One of the areas is the road where the wife and 2 daughters of a man that has been frantically searching for them lived. I imagine all the shelters have been checked and the rescue teams know there isn't any other place they can be. :(

That's what has me so confused. People keep saying "It's worse than they are saying..." but it doesn't match up to the aerial pictures, etc.

There were aerial photos of Mysterious Mansion?

A guy at work said they've devided Gatlinburg in to four sections and have two of those four sections searched at 80%?

Is this correct?

I believe so. Section 4 is downtown Gatlinburg, and section 3 is the east side of Gatlinburg. I'm not sure what section 1 and 2 consist of.

They will be letting owners and renters back into Gatlinburg starting at 10am tomorrow with the exceptions of Walker Trail, Beech Branch Rd., and Wiley Oakley Dr. Those areas are still too dangerous and are still being searched.

Al Qaeda Calls for Massive Forest Fires in Montana - ABC News

The men who launched al Qaeda's English-language magazine may have died in a U.S. missile strike last fall, but "Inspire" magazine lives on without them -- and continues to promote jihadi attacks on Western targets, offering detailed advice on how to start huge forest fires in America

Fire Wars: Past And Future Terrorist Attacks On American Forests Warrant Priority Attention
There is considerable evidence of intent. As mentioned in my presentation on July 9, 2012, as part of an American Center for Democracy “Briefing to Congress” when Navy SEALS killed Osama bin Laden in 2011, they captured a treasure trove of material that provided unprecedented insight into al Qaeda plans. Those plans included a detailed campaign for starting fires throughout the American West
....
"International terrorist groups and violent extremists have long shown interest in using fire as a weapon, due to the low cost and limited technical expertise required, the potential for causing large-scale damage, and the low risk of apprehension...se of this tactic...is directed at Western audiences and supports homeland attacks."

"For terrorists, setting fires has several advantages over other methods...including sustainability (duration of the fire and long-term effects); the potential for casualties, economic damage, and wide media coverage; and the accompanying psychological effects of fear and terror."

"Terrorists intent on using fire as a weapon may choose to target locations in proximity to populated areas or infrastructure to maximize damage and casualties."
...
sources within Cal Fire, a state firefighting agency, confirmed that some California fires in 2011 were linked to terrorists. Also in 2012, Russia's security chief, Aleksandr Bortnikov warned, "al Qaeda was complicit in recent forest fires in Europe" as part of the terrorists' strategy of waging economic warfare by "a thousand cuts."

Conditions for forest fires are probably more suitable in the West, but anywhere experiencing a drought like the southeast is a prime target. The thing about this that is strange to me is that how many fires have all of a sudden sprung up all over the southeast.

I would imagine if it turns out that it was a Muslim and they were arrested, that the public wouldn't find out about it any time soon.

I flew back from DC a few weeks ago and you could see small fires dotting the landscape the whole way. I lost count in the 20's

Tennessee is known as the Volunteer State; even its beloved University of Tennessee sports teams use the name. When wildfires forced thousands from their homes in Gatlinburg this week, evacuees and helpers noticed how the state lived up to the nickname.

"That's how the state got the nickname, people helping people. It is just people's nature," said La Vergne Fire Department Capt. Marcus Harney.

Pretty ironic that there's a ride at Dollywood called Blazin Fury, that if I remember correctly was about riding around a burning mountain town in a fire truck.

I'm not sure how you mean this post, but now is not the time for irony or jokes as far as that goes. It's not funny.

I mean...it is ironic, no?

I'm asking are you making a joke out of it? Because if you are now isn't the time. I live here, just like the other fellow posting in the thread. It's not cool. It's actually a little soon to be pointing out that type of "irony" whether you mean well by it or not.
