Disgusting stuff. Internet commenters say some of the most awful things.
Looks like FEMA has been approved to step in:
President Obama comments on Sevier Co. wildfire
Amazingly enough we have not requested Federal Funds. Fema is not here, TEMA is. State levels are handling it all. We are actually for the most part giving to local organizations and not the red cross. My understanding is the Red Cross is packing the donations up and using them where they see fit not necessarily in Sevier County. We really aren't asking for Federal Help.
We did not BURN our Town. However we will Not pay to rebuild FEDERAL parks and property. We have insurance, we resilience and we have shovel ready jobs.
Let us burn and watch our community come together and flourish regardless. There is no looting no rioting only good people supporting one another.
My friends and neighbors are weeping, for their loss. Let them talk while my best friends are sweeping for bodies. We are the VOLUNTEER state, and WE are showing our true colors.
While the tourist are calling and berating some of my best friends because the parade has been cancelled, and it has "ruined their vacation".
We will survive and we WILL flourish. We don't want your federal funding or help. The current president has ignored what is happening on Federal Land. MSN is focusing on tweets. While we are collecting tractors and trailers to help our own.
Say as you will. We are showing our true colors. We are Tennessee We are the Volunteer State, We Will Flourish and rise from the ashes like the great Phoenix.
WE ARE #SEVIERCOUNTYSTRONG.
So much hate in the comments section. Intolerant liberals gleefully celebrating disaster because they believe everyone in Tennessee is a Trump supporter. So disgusting. Why can't we value human life? Why must our politics be so polarizing? I will also admit the ignorance and hate is on both sides.
That's the thing. Comments sections are ugly on both sides of the fence. People say things that they would not say in person if they actually were faced with what is going on.
All you can do is focus on the positive and realize that those individuals don't speak for everyone.

I've always heard that. I've heard more bad than good about them.the bolded part- I don't want to take away from what this thread is supposed to be about, but this is a habit with them. I have personally watched them take donations from other organizations or just community gatherings and slap their names on it, and what wasn't given out, was used to replenish their own shelves.
don't get me wrong, they do do a lot of good, but not nowhere what they claim to do or claim to be

Update: ten now deceased. Sad
That's what has me so confused. People keep saying "It's worse than they are saying..." but it doesn't match up to the aerial pictures, etc.
A guy at work said they've devided Gatlinburg in to four sections and have two of those four sections searched at 80%?
Is this correct?
The men who launched al Qaeda's English-language magazine may have died in a U.S. missile strike last fall, but "Inspire" magazine lives on without them -- and continues to promote jihadi attacks on Western targets, offering detailed advice on how to start huge forest fires in America
There is considerable evidence of intent. As mentioned in my presentation on July 9, 2012, as part of an American Center for Democracy Briefing to Congress when Navy SEALS killed Osama bin Laden in 2011, they captured a treasure trove of material that provided unprecedented insight into al Qaeda plans. Those plans included a detailed campaign for starting fires throughout the American West
....
"International terrorist groups and violent extremists have long shown interest in using fire as a weapon, due to the low cost and limited technical expertise required, the potential for causing large-scale damage, and the low risk of apprehension...se of this tactic...is directed at Western audiences and supports homeland attacks."
"For terrorists, setting fires has several advantages over other methods...including sustainability (duration of the fire and long-term effects); the potential for casualties, economic damage, and wide media coverage; and the accompanying psychological effects of fear and terror."
"Terrorists intent on using fire as a weapon may choose to target locations in proximity to populated areas or infrastructure to maximize damage and casualties."
...
sources within Cal Fire, a state firefighting agency, confirmed that some California fires in 2011 were linked to terrorists. Also in 2012, Russia's security chief, Aleksandr Bortnikov warned, "al Qaeda was complicit in recent forest fires in Europe" as part of the terrorists' strategy of waging economic warfare by "a thousand cuts."
I would imagine if it turns out that it was a Muslim and they were arrested, that the public wouldn't find out about it any time soon.Al Qaeda Calls for Massive Forest Fires in Montana - ABC News
Fire Wars: Past And Future Terrorist Attacks On American Forests Warrant Priority Attention
Conditions for forest fires are probably more suitable in the West, but anywhere experiencing a drought like the southeast is a prime target. The thing about this that is strange to me is that how many fires have all of a sudden sprung up all over the southeast.
I mean...it is ironic, no?
