Gatlinburg Being Evacuated

Vol$ Deep you said your family owns a rental company and cabins up there. Who will be called in as far as constructiin companies to start building these cabins back?

I'm not real sure man. If I find out though I will certainly let you know. I know now as tragic as all this has been it'll bring a lot of construction jobs to the area. My Dad said earlier today they now think over 100 cabins in Cobbly Nob are gone. They originally thought 75 or so.

There are actually 2 missing girls. I feel so bad for that family. The father will never forgive himself because he left them at the house where they had no car. He didn't know about the fire being close until his wife called him. I can't imagine what he's going through.

I must have misunderstood. I thought he had one with him? But it was his son wasn't it? Like you, I couldn't imagine how the poor man and his family are feeling.

I have no words. I feel so sorry for him and his son.

I couldn't even imagine how my life would go on.

I couldn't imagine what I'd do or how life as I knew it would go on. Horrible.

It's literally unimaginable. I've read they were involved in their church, and also in another ministry - I think feeding needy families - on Tuesday night. They'll have a lot of loving support around them, but I don't know how you force yourself to keep breathing after losing your spouse and two of your children, especially the way this happened. God be with this man and his son. And the rest of the family that will never be the same.

You keep going for other child who is still here. You keep going for each other.

Agreed. The video I posted is a little over 3 minutes. It doesnt even show her original question which was first responded to by the EMA director. After he answered she kept interrupting other reporters. This went on well over 5 minutes and I'm glad the Mayor shut her up with the perfect response.

Anybody know who the reporter was?

I feel awful about Mr. Reed. I can not imagine.

Knoxville News Sentinel

Here ya go. First video loaded. It wasn't the EMA director it was Officer Cash he stepped in front of. This went on longer than the video here but it does have that great ending of him basically telling her to stfu.

I understand the evacuation plan and/or response could possibly be looked at but now isn't the time.

With 100 people reported missing no loss of life is excusable but if they got 14,000 people out of there I think the did a pretty good job of it considering what they were up against.

I can't seem to find that press conference now anywhere, I guess they took it down from the attention it was getting.

Click the link and it's the 9th video down labeled "officials speak about Gatlinburg response".

Thank you sir!

That woman was annoying. Who is responsible for all those deaths? The idiot that started the fire at the Chimneys and Mother Nature, that's who.

My uncle lives in Gatlinburg and luckily his place made it. He sent a pic of the flames coming within 10 feet of his house. He said that when he was evacuating down the spur even with his windows rolled up the hairs on his arm got singed. That's insane, I can't imagine how scary that must have been for everyone who had to drive down it.

Glad he's okay.

And what a difficult road that is that lies ahead. I always think if something happened to one of mine I would want nothing more in the world but to crawl into a hole and die myself, and the sooner the better. But having a surviving child takes that luxury away because you have to do everything you can to help that kid move on past the tragedy and have a decent shot at a full, happy and productive life, despite that great and permanent emotional scar. I don't even know how you do that.

It's sad. Given the situation in the area and the winds I'd like to think I would have put everyone in the car to go "sightseeing".

Add the fact that his son is alive because that's the child he took with him. Lord I hope the resources are there to help this man rebuild his life. I just can't imagine the pain.

Yeah, it hurts to even think about.

Her name is Kimberly King. She is from the Asheville area.

Thanks. She definitely needs to learn some lessons on how to read a room, phrasing, and timing.

Hopefully one of the more seasoned reporters pulled her aside.

This whole thing is something that just feels worse the more you think about everything. I can't get those families out of my head. The decisions, the fear...it's awful.

So, I have to buy a new front door......I know a lot of people lost exponentially more, but the reason I lost it is infuriating. My house had no fire damage, but search and rescue bashed my front door in to gain access to the house because no one was there to respond to the doorbell. They said they had to do this to every single house in the area.

I know God's plan is perfect but it sure is hard to understand it sometimes. I'll be praying for Mr. Reed and his son before I go to sleep tonight.

Depending on which way your door opens, don't lock your deadbolt and I can get in with a credit card and/or small prybar. :)

Lol good grief. Just think if someone worked 3rd shift, woke up and thought someone was breaking in?

Sorry about your door, that does suck. I've seen EMS almost perfectly break into a house while causing little to no damage. I'll have to ask my uncle if they did the same thing to his. I can tell you that they spray painted a giant red "X" right on the stonework of his cabin.

Are you serious?? You lost a front door because rescue was checking to see if you were OK while others lost everything including lives. Put your name on the "Do not check on me" list next time. You sound incredibly stupid.
