That far better loss was in September. To the team you are trying to devalue. Never stop stopping, D4H.

I think Texas deserves to be in the top 4. I just think Alabama is better. My top 4 would be as follows:

1. Alabama
2. Georgia
3. Texas
4. Michigan

I think Washington and Florida State are trash. Both teams would be 14+ point underdogs to Bama and Georgia. They would only be in because of their undefeated record not because they're actually one of the 4 best teams.

Losing to a team in the playoff conversation is better than losing to a team outside the top 10. Also Alabama has the best win in the sport after taking down the 2x defending champs. You can't just focus on one game from September even if it's head to head.

Also you know Alabama would be favored by more than a TD if they played once again. That also has to count for something. It's about the four best teams not the team that beat another team head to head in September.

A) Oklahoma went 10-2 and Texas lost to them at a neutral site that went down to the final seconds. Let’s not act like they lost to a 4-8 Iowa State team (also multiple national champions in the playoff era have head scratching losses. 2016 Clemson lost to a 6 win NC State at home, 2014 Ohio State lost to Va Tech, etc)

B) If Alabama has the best win in the sport, and Texas beat the team that has the best win in the sport, doesn’t that mean Texas actually has the best win in the sport? Transitive property always works in sports.

C) And I’m perfectly fine with having the four best teams in. But if resumes are similar (and they are) and one of those teams has a 10 point road win against one of those teams, then I am fine with giving the edge to the head to head.

I'd honestly put Texas above Georgia and Bama. They beat Bama in Tuscaloosa and won their conference. Georgia has been good, but they failed to win their conference championship. Also they couldn't find anyone decent to play in lieu of the Oklahoma game cancellation.

1. Washington
2. Michigan (if they win)
3. FSU (if they win)
4. Texas
5. Bama
6. Georgia
7. Ohio State
8.

Vegas also favored Oregon over Washington.

Anything can happen in one game. When a team is favored over another its on the basis that given a large enough sample size if those teams keep playing the favored team will win more times than not.

It's why in 2021 Georgia was favored over Alabama in both matchups despite getting blown out in the SEC Championship Game. Then in the natty they beat Alabama. Vegas gets vindicated as the sample size increases. It's why in sports like basketball where they play series the team that's the underdog rarely wins. It's easy to pull an upset once it's another to beat a better team 4 times outta 7.

Some of you appear to be Bama fans. ... interesting.

I like this year's Alabama team. I'm rooting for them to win it all. Jalen Milroe is likeable. And I'm fine with Saban padding his GOAT resume than seeing someone like Kirby win 3 in a row or seeing a non-SEC team win a national championship.

As a Tennessee fan Alabama is the lesser of two evils.

For those of you arguing for the four best teams, you are basically saying playing and winning a conference championship is NOT important. If that is the case, we should have just cancelled the games this weekend and let it be the four teams that are at the top right now.

The problem is that there is no objective criteria here - only subjective of who you think is the best. The first week of the year with Bama's loss to Texas and LSU's loss to FSU, set the tone for this year. The SEC is considered weaker this year than in the past.

So the flip side to that is Bama is a 4th and miracle away from losing to a team that got throttled by NMSU the week prior.

And why play the games in September or whatever if it won’t matter in the end? Texas won by 2 scores at Tuscaloosa.

I’m not against Bama being in, but so does Texas in that case.

You can parse any teams entire season. The key is looking at the overall body of work. Alabama has played the far tougher schedule, has the better wins, and the more acceptable loss. Also they're the team Vegas would favor to win it all.

To me Alabama has a better case than Texas when you look at their resumes in their totality.

Imagine living in a world where a team is more deserving when they lost AT HOME to the team you are comparing them to.

I will never EVER get rooting for the SEC. Like cheering for Mexico if they invaded Italy because Mexico is in our continent or some stupid ****.

SEC prestige helps us all out. It's why a lot of recruits come to us. They view an offer from a SEC program as prestigious compared to other conferences. Lots of prospects have given us serious consideration in the past despite our lack of on-field success mainly because of the prestige that came from the SEC being viewed as the dominant conference in college football. It's also why fans of other conferences hate the SEC. They know there is a benefit of the doubt given to SEC teams.

Remember it's a major reason we were ranked #1 in last years first CFP poll. We were undefeated in the SEC. If we had the same record but played in the ACC and had an out of conference win over Bama we probably don't get to be #1. Being top dog in the SEC gets you more respect than being top dog anywhere else especially if you don't have a history of recent success.

I get all of that. That's why games played on the field matter more than power rankings for picking playoff teams. If Georgia played bama again, they'd probably be favored again. However, that doesn't matter because bama won the game and if an sec team makes it in, Bama should get in over Georgia. If Washington and Oregon played again, Oregon would likely be be favored again. That doesn't matter because Washington actually won the games that were played.

If you go just by who would be favored then games don't matter at all. The most deserving teams should always get in and that is determined by who they play and the results on the field.

No, some of us just dislike Georgia more. Now, I hope that Michigan and FSU win, and the playoff committee puts Texas over bama.
Exactly!...Never could figure out why some people want other SEC teams in the playoff, It doesn't help us recruiting wise or any other way...I am certainly not one of those root for other SEC teams because they can win championships, Screw that I root for TENNESSEE and want all those other bozo's to lose!

Georgia and Alabama would be favored by Vegas over the top 4 teams you named. With them being favored by 14+ against Washington and FSU.

You can't seriously believe those teams are better.

If that's the case then why would Vegas favor Georgia and Alabama over every other team in the country?
Vegas is not doing good right now. They favored Oregon over Washington as well.

And Vegas is about making money not picking who wins. The favor the teams they favor because of both current and past success and how they think folks will bet.

Happens all the time in sports. How many times does a team lose game 1 of a playoff series and win it all? Or how about an NFL team losing in the regular season to an opponent only to beat them later in the playoffs?

One game doesn't determine whose better or who deserves to be in. Hell I would argue Georgia has a case to STILL be the #1 team in the country despite losing today. I know if you asked Nick Saban and Alabama thats the last team they wanna see again in the playoffs. They would gladly play Texas over Georgia if rematches were to happen.

It’s clear that you don’t understand how Vegas works.

A fun little exercise that isn’t possible. If you told Georgia fans in December 2015 when Smart was hired he’d only have one SEC title in 8 years, and gave no other context, how many would say he’s doing a bad job?
