If this is true, then wouldn't that fact be a GIGANTIC red flag for the AD? And the fact that Dooley had a losing tenure at LA Tech?

Because Hamilton can't be concerned with things like winning records and proven success. Hamilton also wanted to fill the job ASAFP so he'd hire Bama's equipment manager if he could have.

Unfortunately, the contract just didn't fit.

Charlie Strong's largest margin of defeat in his 3 years of coaching at Louisville is 17 and that was to a much better Pitt team.

In fact, it's pretty arguable that most of the teams he lost to (and the ones he has beaten) have better facilities and talent.

The other big thing? The dude can recruit Florida like nobodies business.

I like Strong. I don't like him as much as Gruden but would be ecstatic if he's THCAUTK next year.

Exactly. :good!:

Saban is not GOD! Why do we always care what Saban does or does not do or did or didn't do?

Umm...3 National Titles, successful at just about every level of college football, NFL experience. It would be nice to find a coach with that resume vs. the resume of our current HC. JMHO

I was always under the impression it was because Hamilton was on an accelerated timeline to fill in after Kiffin in order to preserve the recruiting class was the primary factor UT was so unattractive.

That's 1/2 right and 1/2 wrong my friend.

We were in a hurry because it was only 2 weeks before National Signing Day and we had about 8 kids that were going to become early entries into school so they could start learning our playbooks and we "supposedly" had some good players coming in that laMe kiffScum recruited and Hamilton did not want a total bust of a recruiting class and CDD was known as a very good recruiter.

Besides his recruiting ability CDD was said to be a very good coach by Saban and MuschUmp and others that knew him plus the FACT that absolutely NOBODY else would even consider coming to Tennessee with a player roster that had no real chance to Win against any of the top SEC teams and could actually struggle or lose to the lower SEC schools.

Simply NOBODY else would risk their coaching career to come to UT for a total rebuilding project of 5 years or longer.

Want more facts?

Simply look at how many kids are in the NFL now from the top SEC schools and how FEW are in the NFL from the last 4 years from our beloved Tennessee Vols.

Now look at how many future NFL players we still have from the laMe kiffScum class and the ones that CDD added to that class with only 2 weeks to talk them into coming to UT and NOT even having a coaching staff yet so CDD couldn't even tell James Stone, Da'rick Rogers, ect, ect who their position coach would be and he still added some good players/future NFL players to that class.

Now look at the only 2 real CDD recruiting classes and see how many future NFL players CDD has added that are now only Sophs and Freshman and, if you're honest, you WILL see quite a frw CDD recruits that will be on NFL teams and LOTS more than when CDD got here.

Our player roster HAS gotten alot better but we're just not at the same level as the top SEC teams are at on a 2 deep gameday roster YET!

Being realistic or patient on a 5 YEAR total rebuilding project isn't what UT fans and VN posters are very good at.

I hate losing but I do know how winning college football teams are built and how many years it takes especially when we play in the SEC and we also play teams like the quackers from Oregon.

You also forget that CDD was the LSU recruiting coordinator that helped build that team into National Champons and that Nick Saban made CDD his Assistant HEAD COACH because Saban wanted his best coach to take over his team if he got hurt or sick.

People also forget how many times a DC or a OC is made a Head Coach and then FAILS miserably and goes back to being a OC or a DC but the college that hired them as a HC is also set BACKWARDS for 4 or 5 years or longer and then has to start all over again.

VFL...GBO!!!

It's actually THE sports animal. If they didn't distinguish themselves as such, people might confuse them with just a regular sports animal.

I'm not reading 6 pages, and I don't necessarily wholeheartedly disagree with what they are saying, BUT.....

You see all the time, especially on NFL teams, where OL coaches, DL coaches, etc. are made hte associate head coach. So it isn't necessarily ALWAYS a coordinator that is worthy of being a head coach. Just making a point, not blindly defending CDD.

Gruden is nothing more than a pipedream.

If UT takes it's time it will lose out on a chance for Charlie Strong.

My biggest fear is we hire Kirby Smart from Bama. He'd be an upgrade, sure, but I don't think he's the long-term answer.

I would rather keep Dooley another year than hire Kirby Smart. I think the time to make a change is here but it has to be a solid proven coach and hopefully that homerun we all want. Another experiment could have us going in reverse and its not worth the risk this year IMO.

Some people in the Charlie Strong thread say strong would be Dooley 2.0. I don't think so. I think that kirby Smart would just be another version of Dooley.

I agree that is possible about Smart being Dooley 2.0 (I still think he would be better than Dooley), but whoever said that about Strong is way wrong. Other boards I post on are praying we don't get Strong. The last thing UF fans want to see is Strong at Tennessee.

They closed the show talking about he was never promoted to be a top coordinator for Saban. He was always tight end or special teams coach. He was Saban's longest tenured assistant an never made it past the assistant level even when there were openings. The reason UT hired DD was he was a Saban disciple. But if he was any good he would have gotten farther. It was just an eye opener. Maybe he isn't that good. He never even coordinated an offense or defense, so he got hired by UT way before he was ready. he was just getting his feet wet at Latech.

that joey matthews for vandy is pretty good. i'd say he'll get drafted before long, so i'm not really going to be upset if we loose to those guys.

No nfl coach should come here even though I would love Gruden. Strong, Petrino, or somebody like that.

Maybe he isn't that good?

He ends year two with a loss to Kentucky and starts year three 0-3 with a loss to a weak (albeit relatively) Florida team at home, and a Georgia team that spotted him 21 points (ohh my bad 20 points because we missed an extra point for the 5th game in a row) and Mississippi State.

Maybe he isn't that good?

Is that supposed to be joke?

Nope. Because it's far from funny
