Good point on the Sports Animal abouut DD

Remember our program was a dumpster fire and Hamilton had precious little time to get a staff in place and keep a recruiting class together. No top level coach nor a top up and comer who had other options were going to take this risk so Dooley accepted the invitation. He no doubt wasn't ready but he's managed to assemble a decent roster and stabalize other areas of the program. If he's not the guy, we should look a lot more attractive to a top candidate now or next year then we did in 2009.

DD inherited a mess and we have been competitive against the teams that beat us. If we do not lose to AL and SC by 20+ then he will get another year, imo. Hart wanted us to be competitive. He never said we had to win against our conference foes. Replacing him with a home run is unlikely this year. The only available top rated guy would be Mack Brown. He is probably out in Texas.

GO VOLS!!

Who cares who he coached under? He had a LOSING record and the administration HIRED him...there should be a 30 for 30 on this hire in the future...

I was saying that when they hired him, they passed on David Cutcliffe and Keving Sumlin to hire a guy who had never been an OC or a DC and had a losing career record at a mid major. Why in the blue blood did that idiot Hamilton make this stupid hire and leave us in this mess.

This line is like the Romney quote in the first Presidential debate...."Some people think that if you just repeat a lie enough times, then others will start to believe it." Seems like many here have bought that lie, hook line and sinker.

First of all, Sumlin was still under consideration, and Hamilton chose to go with Dooley's name/pedigree and having been an assistant under Saban...despite having no resume to commend him for the job...while Sumlin had actually demonstrated the ability to win with a team that had been in the doldrums for a long, long time.

Texas A&M, this year is showing a stark contrast in Hamilton's decision. Sumlin is killing it (first season at TAM), while Dooley is killing our season and hopes.

The notion that "Nodbody wanted it and Dooley came to the rescue it utter Bullcrap. Not a single shred of truth in it.

Oh, Geez. This fanbase is starting to sound more and more like Vandy's, by the day.

this looks pretty obvious in retrospect, but there were risks with this plan also.

however it looks like a no brainer when you factor in the length of CDD's contract plus the fact that his buyout is larger than that of mack brown at texas. can we get this put in the dictionary as the definition of insanity?

the next coach we hire will have that kind of buyout also.. we will not be able to hire any coach without that type protection.. even Gruden at 5 or 6 million a year will require a huge buyout to sign on

Nick Saban and Urban Meyer both have ZERO buyout clause. Great coaches dont need outlandish buyouts.

Dooley's future is still in his own hands. If he pulls out a win this weekend, then everything will change. It is time for him to play the cards he has in his hand right now, and stop looking to the next hand.

I could see that with them. who else fits that description?

if we hire someone without a large buyout attached, I will be impressed with Hart..

Been screaming this since day one. Excellent HC's usually are DC's or OC's but Dooley has no experience at either. I have been saying he will only be as good as his OC and DC will make him.

none of that matters. when Dooley was hired, HE WAS THE BEST WE COULD GET... no one else would come.. Will Muschamp said no to 3.5 million..

its fine to hit on his short comings but the bottom line is, what choice was there?? go without a coach..

Ouch! The bad thing is it's all true. Hopefully we can do alot better next time.

I find it funny that the fact he coached under Saban was touted as a big deal when he was hired, but now some have changed to a "screw Saban" stance.

Also, I wonder if you can sue a consulting firm for malpractice?:)

Coaching for Saban isn't a big deal it seems. I can't think of any of his assistants that have done well outside of working with him.

No buyout for them if they leave for another job or no buyout for the school if they fire them (not that this is likely to happen)?

As much as it pains me Will Muschamp has done a solid job even at Texas and by the way is around Top 5 in the polls......

You said even gruden. You didnt shoot him down. You have inside info and mentioned his name which means there is some truth to the rumors. Am I right?

as far as saban assistant muschamp and fisher have turned the crner in their programs. they are now on track to be consistent 10 win programs. beside them though, they all seem to suck.
