Gran/Wilson Fall-out thread (merged)

What has he been offered by FSU that would take him away from what appears to be an up an coming TN program over the next 2-5 years?

Guys he was only paid 150. That is 1/10 of the money earned by the very wealthy 69 year old father of the head coach. Yes Monte is worth every penny, but if Gran is not paid significantly more here, he will be paid more somewhere else.

And yes, we cannot get anyone close to his recruiting ability on our staff for 150k.

Don't know the offer?

I'm almost certain that Gran makes less than 200k now...and it looks like Jimbo is making Gran a top priority...I can speculate with confidence that he would be the recruiting coordinator and receive a hefty pay raise.

Free market operating right now. If this happens we need to find the next Eddie Gran, that is all.

I thought the same thing at first, that the recruits will follow their respective recruiters. However, it occured to me that maybe these recruits would see the dishonesty in the people recruiting them (i.e. Wilson, Gran). I know they develop a great relationship with the people recruiting them; however, wouldn't there be a huge awakening if a person was selling you to Tennessee for months, telling you how great it was, then all of a sudden jumps ship and starts telling you how great LSU, FSU is? Something to think about, I suppose.

Reap what you sow i suppose...

Can not replace an EDDIE BERTIER (GRAN)...as a person or a coach...

I agree, this news is tough to take, but the first thing I thought of after assembling this staff, is how long do we keep it? We need to move on, that is all, find a new guy.

Oh yeah, and wait till JJ tears Eddie Grans legiments when he collides with him out of bounds.

Good point. Also, recruits chose the school they were interested in or committed to b/c they obviously like the environment, other coaches, pt, etc. and not just the person recruiting them

What a load of crap. This is a move for double the salary he currently makes and is back to his home. When things don't go positive, universities don't honor contracts. These coaches put up with all levels of crap from fans when things don't go positive also. You're really going to fault a guy for making a move that is best for his family?

LOL, look at the long term. he might make 250k there but will be out of a job in a few years when miles gets canned. Sometimes job satisfaction (program on the way up competing for championships) is worth more than 50k, especially when you are building a good reputation for yourself with the fanbase and rapport with the players.

250k for 2 years = 500k (doubt any raise comes off this salary
150k for 6 years = 900k with potential raises

Job Security mean anything to you?

Why do people assume that coaches like Gran/Wilson/Thompson/etc. who might take another job somewhere else are dishonest? It's a better opportunity if they leave. Plain and simple. I highly doubt that Gran or anyone else promised a recruit that they would be here for all 4 years of their playing days. Get real.

What? I would hope that you're kidding, but that's not remotely funny even if you're kidding. Also, are "legiments" similar to ligaments by chance?

Lol, that was a bad attempt at being funny. EG is a great man. Should never say anything like that about the caliber of man he is. Now Marlon Brown is another story:D

WTF! He hasn't even been here for a year. I don't care how much they offered how could you go to the players you've been coaching up and building relationships with and tell them you're leaving them to go to a scum bag liar of a coach that throws his own players under the bus and is on the hot seat. Lateral move at best. Vols are on the way up. LSU is on the way down. nuff said. Can't believe this... what a joke. The word commitment means about as much these days as a cup of JACK SQUAT.

You can't blame Wilson. He's a good dude. Ask the people on New Orleans. LSU is offering him $300k and he is only making $150k at UT. Plus, he would be going back home. Any person would jump at this offer imo...

We don't have alot of room at the top here. We have the money, but FSU may be able to offer position and money. Hope we don't lose him. I think there are other CFW's but CEG is a rare one.

If an in depth and full expose is done on this paying the player to move is done, then it could mean a short time there. Although we are talking about the most corrupt state in the US.

They are offering him the job as the RB coach. It's a lateral move. Gran will stay in Knoxville and be rewarded handsomely by Hamilton and Kiffin imo...

Gran does not make the lateral move, if he'd been offered the offensive coordinator position, he be gone so fast it would make our heads spin. I see no way he will leave UNLESS, there is another coach Kiffin KNOWS can replace him.

Now he is recruiting Luc, am I right LV? Coincidentally FSU is heavily recruiting Luc, as well as several other prospects around the state, could this be an attempt by Jimbo to create a disruption in the recruiting battle being waged in Florida? Seems to me Jimbo is trying to play mind games rather than actually land the guy!

POST 500 Yayyyyyy
